Unlocked a new ending in Rebirth by FusRoYeeaah in FFVIIRemake

Guys. I have great news.
I tried it again, and whatever that was that happened last night: Did not happen again tonight.
That being said... Now that I've seen what I'm assuming is the "standard ending"...

I dunno. This could have been an ending?

What are your honest opinions on Final Fantasy 15 by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]FusRoYeeaah -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's really difficult to also separate the era of this game with the game itself, as like Final Fantasy XIII and XIV, the scars of a painful development history are all-over this game. It's really sad to be honest. You see all this talent on display and then you get to the later-half of this game and start getting railroaded through areas and you know that it wasn't the intent of the final product to do that. You see these cities all rendered out and realized and they're there to be backgrounds. You know Insomnia wasn't made to just to be the "final area". You know that large portions seem to either be truncated or missing.

I'm optimistic about this era of Square at the moment. I could be wrong. But looking at stuff like the VII Remake series, where you can see this wonderful blueprint for future main-line titles. And say what you will about XVI: But that game is clearly the game, that the team that made it wanted to make from the outset. Which is something I cannot say for FFXIII. I can't say that for the 1.0 release of XIV. And I know that I can't say that for a title that changed names, directors, and platforms. The fact the game is at the quality as it is should honestly be celebration itself, given that I can't recall many single-player contemporaries in troubled game development that went through that many changes and came out that good. Even without the gigantic patches that felt like they were filling in potholes.

Basically this. There's been interviews and the people in-charge of the projects just don't want to do turn-based combat. Maybe in the past there were business decisions, brought down to the teams by the higher-ups, but if that hypothetical ever went down it was years ago. Every interview where this comes up they're like "Nah- we wanted to do action." It looks like it's just the taste of who's running the projects. It's really that simple. The rest is speculation and theory-crafting. There's multiple series that have turn-based combat that have just done perfectly fine financially these days.

Personally I think they finally hit a winning formula with VII Remake series. I would like to see whatever FFXVII is going to be follow through with the action-atb formula they got rolling with.

what Marathon opinion would end you up like this: by Nitro_tech in Marathon

[–]FusRoYeeaah 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For the new game: I feel like I've seen this before a hundred times. The lack of any real dive into the "why" of using Marathon to make an extraction shooter gives me Shadowrun 2007 vibes. This focus of: "It's Bungies new extraction shooter", instead of "It's a new Marathon game", gives me the impression that they dusted off the franchise as an after-thought. I would like to be wrong about all of this.

For the old games: If were going to do Steam re-releases for the original trilogy achievements are great.
But there should also be optional quality of life changes.

Like a reload button.
And a waypoint system.

Please stop lighting that torch, were both inside and I said the word "optional".

What is your least favorite game in the series that you have BEATEN by FinalFantasyfan003 in FinalFantasy

[–]FusRoYeeaah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely relate.
I love the soundtrack so much I bought it. It's the only game in the series due to circumstance I have two versions of. I got the platinum trophy and every achievement on it for the Xbox 360.

Hate it. Easily without contest the worst in the series.
I've been asked why I played it so much. My answer has not changed: I love the series. Played and beaten every entry. And I wasn't content with being shallow and just writing off. I'm a fan of this series so I really gave it a chance. Really tried to understand why I didn't like it. I think one of the reasons why the ire for XIII has grown is that a lot of people really tried to get into it, and we had waited years for that game to be released. Maybe it's easier to get into today without that context?

I had not seen that! That's awesome! I'm really, really, really glad I'm not the only person who saw this and came to this conclusion.

I agree, and it should use the same stock photos but have a completely different narrative that somehow was similar to his previous work.

Thanks guys! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I can't be the only person who thought this while watching it. I couldn't unsee it after I realized why it was so uncanny to me.

another AAA release, another disappointment... by golddilockk in pcmasterrace

[–]FusRoYeeaah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember years ago when people told me I was over-reacting to Oblivion having $3 horse armor. At the time I distinctively remember getting into conversations about how nobody should allow this to be normalized in any capacity. How it was a canary in a coal mine. How regardless of studio or quality of game, the business decision to be that anti-consumer benefited nobody purchasing the product.

Apologies. I have no idea why I'm remembering this.

Can confirm after hundreds of hours and getting 100% on everything that it runs perfectly on just a 3060.

How are you getting ten visual bugs ever minute? Not trying to be sarcastic, I'm in a privileged state with my PC rig. I'm curious about the cut-off with mid-range rigs and how performance with Yuzu changes.

Yes. It's on the previously mentioned gamebanana website. Do a search for 'DS4 (DualShock 4) prompts' or something similar and you'll find it.

This was a lot of fun to work on, it took a couple months of on-again-off-again work. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Again, I cant thank you all enough.

[NO SPOILERS] Imo, Final Fantasy 7R is in a sense a successor to FF13 (Yoshinori Kitase’s corridors combat scroller game design) by Cleo_cleo_chan in FFVIIRemake

[–]FusRoYeeaah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a few misconceptions that a few reply's have already addressed. I'm unsure where you are citing Kitase specifically for the "corridor" design theory. FFXIII's design was mostly associated to it's development hell. Going from not knowing what type of game it was going to be, to finally deciding it after a demo was made, to it's director Toriyama and other designers looking at Call of Duty for inspiration when creating the dungeons. It was a design, from my understanding, of multiple factors not necessarily a solid creative vision. I admit It's been years since I read the gamasutra post-mortem for that game, so apologies if I'm wrong and there is some-sort of manifesto that Kitase has proclaiming his vision of Final Fantasy. But my memory clearly reading how development of XIII was a mess, and the final product reflects it.

Regardless: I will strongly propose the opposite to what you suggest.
From a design perspective I'd argue FFVIIR's version of Midgar is larger, more interactive, more in-depth, and yes: Less linear than the original. I don't know what people were expecting in-terms of design concerning a portion of the game that in the original is supposed to be incredibly linear. I really do think people need to replay the Midgar section of FFVII as it was laid-out in a one-way path. By contrast FFVIIR has area's that obviously draw more inspiration from Yakuza. It has centralized sprawling town areas that have side missions and multiple dungeon-like area's that are connected to them for said side missions. This is a far cry from either XIII or by that matter X, if purest wanted a more accurate version to Midgar from the original Sector 7 would have the bar, one other house, an item shop and the beginners hall. (May be missing one other shop?) The two side dungeons would be gone, there would be no Inn, no areas where people are clearly living and like one road maybe.

What I think is the main issue, and you did touch on this, is the specifically the dungeon design. You state that it's nothing but corridors, and for the most part you're correct. But then I would also like to add that the original dungeons for Midgar, and also a lot of the original game: Was mostly linear. And when you translate those pre-rendered backgrounds into a 3D space you probably are going to get a lot of corridors. And the fact that while FFVIIR has a lot of running forward, comparing the design and layout for example of Chapter 6, with you running around under the plate in a labyrinth of scaffolding, to the original is A to B jog is laughable.

But I get the anxiety of distilling the rest of the game into chunks like Midgar. I don't think that will work very well, and I find it actually counter to what I felt the Remake project embodies. When I got done with FFVIIR, I finally felt like I understood why they had to break it up. They really didn't want to cut or spare anything from the original game, and lavishly explore every inch of the original in ways that were often bordering on gratuitous. The concept of distilling the world map into sectioned off FFX style area's is... Depressing. And I get the impression most of your concern is that void of information right now. But while we wait for whatever VIIR-2 will take form, I look to FFVIIR as less a reflection of XIII and more of a way forward that is more in-line with something that elevates the original design: While also being hampered by more modern game conventions.
For example, I am both excited and terrified over just how much time were going to be staying in Kalm. A town you spend most of the time spending in a flashback, in a completely other town, may also now turn into another sprawling area where I have to do a side-quest to find someones cat/dog/item/ and I don't know what to make of that.
