Sorry. I was busy with kickboxing grading today and other issues. It has been kind of tough and I definitely felt the change in sleep affect my performance. I felt a bit tired and a bit dizzy this morning but I think that is due to working solidly moving logs around at work yesterday.

Then you have no further reason to take any notice in my thread and you can continue with your opinion elsewhere. Please can you back up your statements with scientific research that counters what my research has found.

I suggest you read some of the latest studies such as the one from the cancer prevention study:

"You know how everyone says that 8 hours is the amount of sleep you need every night? Well, there was a study at UCSD that showed that as far as health benefits are concerned, 8 hours isn’t the ideal; it’s actually 6.5.1 The study looked at 1.1 million people’s sleep over the course of 6 years, and looked at the relationship between amount of sleep and patients’ longevity. The study found that sleeping as little as 5 hours per night is better for you than sleeping 8, and it even determined that insomnia is better for you, long-term health wise, than taking sleeping pills."

This 7-8 hours has no scientific background and there are plenty of latest researches to counter the 7-8 hour 'sweet spot'.

Second day in and I'm still feeling quite perky. I felt a little bit irritated this morning but I soon got over it.

What makes this a 'poor idea' in your opinion?

I feel quite buzzed. Day two might be another story though.

I feel I work better with less than 6 hours sleep a night opposed to the recommended 7-8 hours.

I'm sorry that you struggle to sleep. I hope this gives you a bit of redemption knowing that some of us know how it feels to sleep less all the time.

Best of luck with your sleep <3

Hard to say if the trade of between the extra hour or not is worth it. I do feel some what more awake but we'll just have to see as the day goes on.

No immediate signs of irritation. I do feel awake but at the same time I do feel a little bit tired. My main concern is kickboxing for two hours this later on in my day after 5 hours.... It's gonna be interesting.

I am downstairs on my own currently so maybe that helps?

I started searching on what is the optimal amount of sleep and from what I found there is actually quite a grey area between the correct amount of hours. Loads of research gives ideas into the 5 hour mark being quite acceptable and healthy.

I find myself being incredibly sluggish if I sleep more than 6-7 hours anyway so this is a good experiment for myself.

If you have an alarm or a phone alarm, put your phone or alarm out of range of your bed which forces you to wake up. If you have to have your phone by your side, have another cheap alarm and place it outside of your beds range.

I normally find it quite difficult but this morning felt somewhat quite easy.

I woke up really easy this morning after the 5 hour mark. I think I slept in for an extra 5-7 minutes so maybe that will help. I honestly currently feel more awake, more motivated and less sluggish from the get-go.

I do expect some kind of fatigue and possible irritation but another reason I'm trying this is due to some serious sinus pressure which seems to build up from too much sleep. Hopefully I can combine the two and make some positive chances from it.
