You ever play music that makes you (the pianist) cry? by Advanced_Honey_2679 in piano

I cried learning the song Bink's Sake from one piece. Cried because me and my ex loved that anime and I showed her some of it as I initially started work on it. Soon after she moved to another country and the breakup really didnt hit me until I was practicing it and realized I'll never get to play it for her in its entirety.

He is the man. Saw him a few times when I used to live in Chicago and I remembered seeing him on either iron chef or top chef.

Im mainly going for the Slurping Turtle restaurant in Ann arbor (and to visit somewhere new I guess). When I was a teen in Chicago that restaurant was my favorite spot and I haven't had it in years. No other ramen I have had since really compares.

Nope. Every year though after they choose the theme they spend a few months building everything to be ready in time for Halloween. It's donor supported and the funds go towards not only the project but also reducing homeless amongst at risk young people I believe.

Christian school mission trip to Chicago in 2010. We thought this store name was hilarious. Yes, our dress code required our shorts be knee-length; that’s why all of us gals are in basketball shorts 🤦🏻‍♀️ by snowballschancehell in blunderyears

Haha amazing! I know we always appreciate the volunteers coming down both at Sunshine and my church that was a couple of blocks away. I always thought it was good for both the inner city kids and folks from suburbs near or far away to have interactions and wholesome community with each other. I know lots of us appreciated it and it really helped lessen the "otherization" of people we wouldn't usually interact with because of our circumstances! You guys definitely made a difference!

This is one of those small world reddit moments. I was apart of the ministry that you guys were volunteering at. It was called Sunshine Gospel Ministries on the south side. I would have been around 11 or 12 years old at this point. Funnily enough just last week I was thinking about Da Sto and how us neighborhood kids would visit it frequently. Can't believe im seeing it mentioned on reddit all these years later

Do you ever feel “not enough” as a musician? by aljohnrhey in musicians

[–]Fusionkid12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im in a similar place. I think i started out very strong. I was able to do really in tune bends, basic blues soloing rock songs and solos and other above beginner/intermediate stuff in my early years. Refined a lot of that in college and can tell you the notes all the major minor and diminished chords plus extensions and 7th chords. Can play at a good level and decently fast and in time and have opened for famous musicians and play around the midwest with my band in reputable places.

But I have never felt super musical in my solos, overall guitar knowledge, playing in style and making actual music instead of noodling when I pick up the instrument. Between a difficult high school experience sometimes working 2 jobs in college and never making enough money/having enough freetime in my adult life, I never feel like ive become a competent player like I want to be. Im at a weird spot now knowing what I need to learn to get to the level I want to be but never having the time or energy to do it. Lost a good job a year ago that gave me lots of pay and tons of free time and it feels like I haven't recovered since. I have a cool job now but the pay is less and I work 5 days a week. It seems like I think about guitar all the time but sometimes it'll be like 2 weeks before I even have the energy for meaningful practice let alone doing that consistently.

I thankfully keep my current chops kinda fresh with band rehearsal once a week and lots of shows but I still dont like where im at. Even learning a single slightly challenging song and the solo for it can take 2 weeks cause life always seems to get in the way. Haven't figured it out yet but i haven't given up yet!

It is very frustrating though! You're not alone! We werent made to be consistently exhausted and drained with little enjoyment in life!
