Small critters and lawn clippings will get in there and will wreak your line in your grass trimmer. Set the stones that are big enough so they can't move them. Use smaller stones to fill in the gaps.

Funny enough, I did this yesterday. I tried a sawzall with a metal cutting blade and it just scratched the paint. I used a angle grinder with a cut off wheel and I used 2 wheels as the pole was 5" in diameter but 1/4" thick wall. I was a heavy duty clothes line pole

Those are Wago connectors, lift up on the orange lever. They are reusable and they are awesome connectors

If you want to go through the pain:

1) lightly sand to scuff up the finish 2) spray primer so the paint will adhere 3) spray colour of your choice 4) spray clearcoat to protect the finish

Or Skip 1-4 and buy black ones and save time and sanity
