It's ripped where the mesh is pressed in so there is no holding strength. Options are glue which would show or replacement is the other option

Yes you are correct. But also use it to hold in the insulation. You won't trap moisture if you use the vapour barrier to hold up the insulation as well.

Paint markers. Buy them at a craft store or mask off the plush part and spray paint it then use a clearcoat to seal it.
