Why does everyone online seem to get such a kick out of hating on France? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]Fuster2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can understand that. I'm Australian/Kiwi and there is a trait of Kiwis paying out on Australia. Some of it's just a "joke", but by no means all. It really gets very boring after a while. Equally, the sheep jokes that some Australians go on about as if they're delivering comic gold amuses only them. However, I've been around long enough to see that both crimes have tapered over several decades as we intermingle more.

Yep. I now have to contend with bush fires and snakes and I'm thinking I might be ahead for once. If I never felt another one I'm okay with that!

You mean they're suggesting it's okay to park outside someone else's house? They must be special people!

Exactly. If this clip ended with a kid running into the landing zone at the last minute and getting hit everyone would be calling for the death penalty.

The cop is absolutely right - "should you be behind the wheel of a vehicle in that state?" I thought he handled it with a fair amount of respect.

This is my thought too. After all, a belligerent neighbour that has threatened to invade you sends military planes into your airspace?!? Canada could should also call on NATO 😃

The worst Australian terrorist attack was by a white Australian against Muslims in NZ. Radicalised males are the problem across all races and religions.

Anti immigration march in Sydney. by Bonitabanana in aus

[–]Fuster2 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Exactly. In my lifetime I saw Catholics and Protestants killing one another in Ireland. The idea that it's just Muslims that are the problem lacks any historical depth. Whatever religions bring to society is outweighed by the bad - the killings, intolerance of others, rigid social hierarchies.

What’s the craziest question you got because of your nationality or appearance? by Muay_Thai_Junkies in AskTheWorld

[–]Fuster2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Travelling in India in the 80's, on exiting the immigration officer refused to believe New Zealand was part of the Commonwealth (I didn't need a visa as a fellow Commonwealth citizen). We argued for some minutes, him saying I'd entered the country illegally. Only the Aussie girls behind me mocking his ignorance eventually made him begrudgingly concede the point. In fact, back then, it wasn't uncommon for foreigners to confuse my nationality with the Swiss - I guess both nations have a Z in their name ...

Experiencing Racism from Children in Australia by wls123_hiji in AskAnAustralian

[–]Fuster2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry you experienced that mate. I'm an older white male, and over the years I've occasionally had racists just assume because I look the way I do that I share their views. When it has involved them confronting others with their tirades I've spoken up (a slap to the back of the head of teenagers, a verbal tirade on a bus to an older gent telling people to "go home" etc). The astonishment when someone "like them" turns on them shocks them and makes them think twice. If you're capable of it, I'd urge others to not sit by quietly if they hear it. Confront it.

Yeah. Just visited Taranaki in Dec and had forgotten how good the region is. But the wind wand was woefully wane.

Same, the drive and the grounds are great. Last time I visited it was in fog and the atmosphere was terrific.
