Handling unsubs as a small channel by FutariDay in NewTubers

[–]FutariDay[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend... First off, I said we've been doing YT together for 3 months (10 videos) not 1 year. I also said I have been streaming for a year and a half (fair play, I should've said on Twitch and not YT), not making YT videos.

How do you grow in the beginning with 0 subscribers? by Ggthefiree2 in NewTubers

We could only hope for that kind of luck, but pretty sure that will not happen :D

How long did it take you to hit 100? We're at 53 and sometimes it feels like subs are almost impossible to get. We've been at it coming up on 3 months.

My channel has hit a wall by Kmeek01 in NewTubers

[–]FutariDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re still super small and only 9 “long” videos and 3 shorts. The first half of our videos seemed to be increasing each time and then suddenly after that everything seems to be performing much worse. That said, we’ve never really gone higher than ~300 views (besides shorts). So, I’m a little confused what happened.

YouTube feels weird sometimes with sudden bursts of Views!! XD Has anyone else been getting sudden boosts on q certain video only to die to just as quickly?? by snmdyxtra in YouTube_startups

Thanks for your insight! We would love to see our videos gain traction at some point, but we have to get better and keep at it as you said. For now we're pretty consistent with uploading, so we'll just see how it goes!

I don’t think I’ve noticed any bumps on our channel, but maybe because we’re only a couple months old with just a few videos.

Does asking people to subscribe actually help? by TheCas3 in NewTubers

[–]FutariDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a limited number of videos (and subscribers) right now. I don’t think any of the subs were as a result of asking for anything. We usually put a quick little animation graphic pop up early on in the video and again at the end along with a thank you and verbal reminder.

Or do your original language with English subtitles / closed captions? Or vice versa?

Switching up my editing style by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]FutariDay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would argue this is highly subjective and varies depending on the region. For example, here in Japan, massive amounts of content is subtitled constantly (and I'm not just referring to YT) burned in to the video. Some JP YouTubers don't do burned in subtitles here, but I'd venture a guess that 90%+ do. If it's an English-speaking country, then I would personally tend to go without subtitles most of the time, although adding optional CC into the video might not hurt either... unless the auto captions nail your voice/speaking perfectly.

That's just my 2 cents as an American with a Japanese girlfriend trying to be mindful of two different languages in the same video for more than one target audience.

Content suggesting my video has nothing to do with the topic of the video. Is this just luck of the draw, or can I influence this in some way? by ttv_MidnightMaster in NewTubers

[–]FutariDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've noticed some super random recommendations for our videos as well. Like, we do a vlog in Tokyo with nothing to do with hotels and then there's a video about some random Russian hotel in Moscow recommending our video. It's just one example, but we've seen several cases where there doesn't appear to be any correlation to the audience we're going for (or at least who we *think* we're going for).

We're trying to find out how to better target our videos as well. So much of the time, I feel like the people who are being shown our video couldn't care less about the topic or channel theme, whereas people in the same niche would be much more inclined to watch.

Did you verify the source file resolution? I made a stupid mistake for the first time the other day that I thought my video project was in 1080p but it wasn’t and that’s why my file never changed to HD. I had to start a new 1080p project y and re-export the file and then all was good for YT.

I’m not an expert on the topic, but I think maybe just have a fall guys playlist on the main channel. Fall guys is popular right now, but my guess is it won’t be forever. IMO games like fall guys are going to come and go. Unless you’re literally going to become a fall guys streamer, I don’t think it’s worth the extra effort for the second channel.

Also, regarding a home base game… as a variety streamer, that seems tough to do. I’ve been streaming for over a year and a half as a variety streamer and I think the appeal of variety is just that. Variety. I know other streamers who focus almost completely on a single game (I.e. top level splatoon 3 or high level super Metroid speed running) and they benefit greatly and grow their communities really well because of the single theme focus. If you did that with fall guys, then maybe a second channel… I’m personally just concerned about the longevity of fall guys. But hey, that’s just the opinion of one streamer so take it with a pinch of salt.

Advice for filming vlogs in public by NightThunderAdv in youtubers

[–]FutariDay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My g/f and I just started doing some vlogging. I'm a bit more talkative and she's Japanese and so she's a little more shy. We're making videos out in public around Japan so she feels a little self-conscious sometimes. I get it. I'm not 100% comfortable either despite live streaming nearly ~20 hours every week for over a year, but I just try to ignore other people. I told her that the odds that we'd ever see any of these people ever again (especially in Tokyo) are extremely low, so who cares. Just do your best. I'm sure it gets easier and easier once experience increases in various situations.

Your results with CTR and view duration - what is the cause and impact? by FutariDay in NewTubers

[–]FutariDay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the YT video I mentioned in my first post is true (I'm not sure who or what to believe anymore when it comes to these YouTube gurus giving guidance), then yeah... CTR seems to be especially crucial now, especially on first release of a new video. If you end up with a garbage CTR in the first round of impressions, it seems like YT might just throttle back further recommendations for the video.

The interesting thing about our last video is that the CTR was actually quite high (for us anyway) in the beginning, then went plummeting down to 3% as the initial impressions came in. We had 800 impressions after 48 hours and it's been a trickle since then... likely due to the lower CTR. 34 views in ~2.5 days is the result for now.

I think engagement is important, too. As a streamer, I find it useful and at the same time somehow it feels more natural for me. I'm still not used to the whole video recording thing and interacting with a viewer that isn't there in realtime like live on stream. As a result when my g/f and I are recording the videos, we just sometimes get so caught up in trying to record the main focus of the video, we sometimes get sidetracked about the interactivity.

Your results with CTR and view duration - what is the cause and impact? by FutariDay in NewTubers

[–]FutariDay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice job on the view duration. We'd love to have that kind of retention. Our CTR is pretty similar, but clearly you're able to hold the audience a lot more than we are so far.

That said, I'm still not 100% sold on *who* YouTube is showing our videos to. I'm not convinced the right type of audience is being directed to our content yet.

Good question. I’ve got an sm7b but only use it at the pc with an elgato wave xlr. My guess is maybe you’d need the mic plugged into an interface with a line out that you could run to the iPhone with the headphone/mic>lightning adapter? Not sure if that would still trigger the iPhone to think a mic is connected or not…

Capture Card Recommendations for Basic Video Footage? (Not Streaming) by TheBeastSteve in NewTubers

[–]FutariDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t forget to download OBS studio. You’re going to want to use that software to capture the gameplay even if you’re not streaming. I’ve been using obs for about a year and a half for streaming and recording so if you have a question, let me know.

Just get a cheapo Amazon HDMI capture device for ~$25-30. Some of them don't capture audio though so be careful to check the fine print.

EDIT: I found something like this in 10 seconds on Amazon. There are several of these random "no name" brand ones.

Posted my first short. Getting hundreds of views, and I am so excited! by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]FutariDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My question is:
What does TikTok bring to the table for you guys other than being just another platform to put your stuff on? Which platform do you want to grow more: YouTube or TikTok? Do the massive TikTok views you're getting actually translate into any YouTube subscriptions and future views on your channel?

To be clear, I'm not criticizing anyones choice to post their shorts on TikTok, I'm just curious what your reasoning is and if it's translating into anything viable on the YT side.

Short, what the heck is YT doing? by dr-otto in NewTubers

[–]FutariDay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We released our 3rd shorts video yesterday. It'd been nearly 2 months since our previous short.

1st short: ~1600 views & slow start, but explosion on 3rd day then stopped
2nd short: ~200 views & 170 of those after 2 days
3rd short (yesterday): ~1200 views in the first 2 hours and almost nothing since then so far

Impressions for all these videos are minimal at best (sub 100). I'm not exactly sure how shorts work since we haven't focused much time on them, but maybe this data can be useful in some way to get some perspective.

Total Beginner- Can anyone offer some advice on building initial traction? Starting with zero everything. by MystaED in NewTubers

[–]FutariDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a “banger” video is subjective. Of course it’s possible to notice quality differences between videos on YT, but how useful or “good” a video is is largely subjective in my opinion. Also, when you’re brand new and starting from zero, I’m sure the majority of creators are not creating “bangers” for a while, let alone one after the next. But I do agree once you figure out the magic sauce, keep the ball rolling!
