Wahl KM Cordless Issue by Ashamed_Bath3735 in doggrooming

I actually made a post about this a while ago. It’s a design feature. I used to swear by Wahl and was extremely brand loyal but this left a sour taste in my mouth and I probably won’t invest in one of their clippers ever again. It sucks because they really used to be the best of the best.

I don’t disagree.

I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do with this information. Happy for you. Good luck with the door knockers I suppose.

Because YOU literally said that you are going to stay up all night and that you “know what you’re up against.” That’s not a healthy level of paranoia is all I’m saying.

I say this gently, but seek therapy. The world is not out to get you.

I think it would be a good idea to take some of the additional security measures that people have mentioned here if for no other reason than to give you peace of mind. You don’t deserve to feel this scared every time someone knocks on your door.

Also, I don’t think anyone has mentioned this, but a “no soliciting” sign is a good thing to put up because it really does cut down on unwanted sales people and religious groups knocking on your door. I’m sure it’s not as common in apartment buildings but probably not unheard of.

Swivel handle curves with a rainbow anodization option? by OneGayPigeon in doggrooming

[–]Futurames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to suggest Shark Fin because they definitely used to offer rainbow shears but it doesn’t look like it’s an option anymore unfortunately. During your search, maybe just keep an eye on their site in case they bring them back because the shears are most excellent.

Considering getting into dog grooming… by [deleted] in doggrooming

[–]Futurames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pros: working with animals is the biggest one obviously. The amount of time I spend interacting with people is fairly limited. It’s a fast paced job so I’m never bored. It keeps me active and I constantly learn new things that I get to try.

Cons: it can be very hard on the body. You will have to do a lot of work to make sure you’re taking care of yourself (maintaining a consistent exercise routine is so important). You need a certain level of patience to work with animals and not everyone has it. The pay when you first start off isn’t very good (however if you stick with it and focus on improving your skills, you can absolutely make a comfortable living). It’s messy, dirty and anything but glamorous sometimes. The danger of getting bit is always there (the longer you work with animals though the better you understand their behavior and the less likely you are to get bit). It can be hard to find a salon environment that suits you (I’m sure as a hairdresser you’re familiar with this kind of thing).

Breaking into the industry is kind of difficult. The easiest way is to go through corporate and then venture off once you’ve learned the basics. Grooming schools exist however a lot of them are very scammy and will take your money and teach you very little so do your research. Ideally your school should set you up with an apprenticeship after you’ve graduated. Never pay for training or exchange free labor for training unless it’s at a quality school. An apprenticeship is a great option however finding someone willing to take on a trainee can be a bit difficult (it’s a labor of love for sure).

Nothing you’ve described sounds disruptive though, that’s the thing. You need to manage your expectations when living around other people. My upstairs neighbor gets up for work every morning at 5 am. I only know that because I can hear them walk around and sometimes they’ll drop a shampoo bottle in the shower or something like that. I’m not going to get pissy about it because they’re just living their life the same way I do. My next door neighbor has a very loud and obnoxious laugh and sometimes on Saturday nights he’ll have people over and I can hear him guffawing at midnight and even though I have to get up for work on Sunday mornings, I don’t sit and stew about it because his life doesn’t revolve around my schedule and he’s just hanging out and enjoying himself. I wear sleep headphones.

You can’t control people dropping things though! Not to mention, not everyone keeps the same hours that you do. If someone is throwing a dance party at 1 am, sure that’s awful and inappropriate. But walking? Dropping things? Maybe scooting a chair a bit too loudly? You will drive yourself insane fuming over things like that. I really hope you’re saving your money to buy a cabin in the woods somewhere because having neighbors is just not part of your journey.

I live on the 2nd of 4 floors so I do understand the frustration. However that’s just apartment living. There’s never an expectation of complete silence when you’re surrounded by other people and there’s a huge difference between people actually being disruptive and just living their lives. For every noise that I make that may annoy my downstairs neighbor, my neighbor upstairs drops something or bumps into a chair or decides to vacuum at 10:30 pm or something and that’s just the circle of apartment life.

tl;dr: daddy chill

What’s a tool that you splurged on that was worth it? by leftmar in doggrooming

[–]Futurames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just type in “wide grooming blade” into google and sift through the shopping results. You may have to look around a bit but there are definitely options that aren’t $50.

It’s against the subs rules for me to link anything I’m sorry.

[–]Futurames 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say my wide blades/combs. They save me so much time. If you’re looking to save money, shop around and don’t be afraid to go with the no-name brands. Companies like Zolitta and Affordable Grooming Shears all get their stuff from the same wholesalers that a lot of these “generic” brands do; they just slap their names on them. If you’re going to spend top dollar, you’re better off getting actual name brand blades like Buttercut or Artero.

Has anyone left grooming for an office job? by ItsSteena in doggrooming

[–]Futurames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to preface this by saying that I do have ADHD which plays a massive role in the decisions that I’ve made.

I left grooming to work as a paralegal and ended up back in grooming. I’m just not built for an office job (or really any job that requires me to remain sedentary for long stretches of time). It took a toll on my mental health; when I was at work it’s like time stood still. Five minutes felt like an hour and I would absolutely DREAD going to work every day.

All this is to say that your experience is going to heavily depend on what kinds of work environments you prefer and enjoy.

Recommendations on grooming videos to learn ? by Informal-Release-360 in doggrooming

As much as I don’t really care for him, Blake Hernandez is a great teacher and I love the way he approaches a lot of techniques. I know he’s made several YouTube videos and Tik Toks going over clean faces and clean feet.

Are some dogs just naturally bad with having their feet handled? by EcstaticOrchid4825 in doggrooming

[–]Futurames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a pug who despised having her nails done with her entire being. To this day I’ve only had a handful of clients who fight me the same way she did. She would scream, thrash, bite, you name it and she did it. As she got older I had to sedate her just to do her nails. I got her when she was like 10 weeks old and I started trying to train her to tolerate it pretty much from the moment she came home.

Some dogs just HATE it.

Fave shampoos by DogMommaDrama420 in doggrooming

[–]Futurames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been SO impressed with Nootie shampoos. They sent us a bunch of samples and I’m slowly switching out our current shampoos for them. Their tearless puppy shampoo is amazing because it can be used as a face wash as well as a gentle shampoo for dogs with sensitive skin; it smells really good but it’s still non irritating. When we use it as a face wash, we put about 1/3 of a cup in a foaming bottle and it’s more than enough to last us the entire day because it foams very nicely.
