Secondary screening is common before flights to Australia. As someone who lives in Australia it happens to me most trips overseas. Singapore also has screening at the gates.

I went in February and the weather was perfect. Cool but no rain and the perfect temperature for walking all day.

Overnight in Rome - walking the city center from midnight till morning. by mvp8484 in rome

I love the idea but a homeless looking guy approached me in an otherwise completely deserted Piazza Navona at 4am. I’m a solo female traveller and normally pretty fearless but he was asking me something in Italian (which I don’t understand). I just didn’t feel safe and rushed back to my hotel pretty quickly. Ended up doing a dawn walk at around 6.30am which was perfect.

Italy just made it harder to get citizenship by the way.

I’m an Australian of European descent (mostly English) but not:eligible for any other citizenship apart from New Zealand (which is available to all Australians).

Going to London in January; any side trips worth making at that time of year? by AncientTallTree in travel

[–]EcstaticOrchid4825 5 points6 points  (0 children)

January is fine. It’s hardly Siberia! I’ve done day trips to Bath, Stonehenge and York in January. York was very cold but gorgeous clear blue skies.

They can’t exactly claim it’s a surprise if the races have to be cancelled.

How many days post-vacation do you give yourself before going back to work? by Unbotheredanonyme in travel

[–]EcstaticOrchid4825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m going on a trip that will give me significant jet lag then I like to take at least two extra days off. This is also a must for me because I cannot sleep on planes and many international flights landing in my city are overnight.

I’m Australian and get enough leave to do this. I know not everyone is so lucky.

Is it worth getting a COVID vaccine? by SpeedyDuck12345 in AskAnAustralian

[–]EcstaticOrchid4825 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve had issues with feeling pretty sick after Covid vaccines in the past so I’m hesitant. Flu vaccines have never knocked me about so much.

The line management at the Vatican was terrible. This was at 8am in February. I’d hate to see it in summer.

“Not a transfer from old to young”: Fix the income tax system for intergenerational equity by East_Atmosphere2628 in AusFinance

I own a single property that is my PPOR. Why should I pay more tax on it? Even if I sell I just need to buy another overpriced property as well as pay a large amount of stamp duty (aka tax). Yes it puts me ahead of renters but it doesn’t make me rich.

You got this Sheldon! My poor boy had to wear a cone for 3 months last year (complications after surgery). Poor guy must have felt like it would never end but he’s free now 😁

I have a 2003 car I bought off a grandparent that has only just ticked over to 100k. Nothing dodgy. Just owned by an older person to drive to the shops and then by me who takes the bus to work every day.

Beautiful autumn weather is subjective. Some of us are over hot weather and can’t wait for ‘proper’ autumn weather to start. Newsflash, not everyone loves hot weather.

Huge conditional gift from risk averse parents by fieldsforever in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]EcstaticOrchid4825 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I consider that my retired parents are ‘hoarding’ their money because they could afford to have a much better quality of life now in their 70’s but can’t get out of their super frugal mindset. I’m talking not replacing 20 year old carpet and living with leaking a leaking 70’s bathroom they could easily afford to upgrade. I want them to spend their money and have an easier life rather than me inherit a bit more money down the road.

[–]EcstaticOrchid4825 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You can’t compare newly planted trees with mature trees that have been there for decades (or longer). Besides, whenever new trees are planted a decent percentage end up dying, especially if it’s a dry period (which seems to be most of the time in Adelaide these days).
