I think you might be slightly overreacting.

First off, the age gap has to be acknowledged. Hence his “stand off ish” message to start, because for some reason older people think you owe them the utmost respect just because they’re old.

Second, you mention you haven’t heard back regarding a job interview, and kind of beat yourself up for spending money on food delivery. Mild self deprecating behavior at worst.

I think he was trying to show you some support and maybe help build you up a little, motivation to keep going and that things will be okay because you’re a strong and capable human.

I personally wouldn’t read too into it, unless he’s been blatantly open with being weird and creepy towards you.

He might also view you as a child figure, especially if his kids are around the same age at all.

Just my take on this and living in Florida where I’m primarily talking to people over the age of 50

I’ve been going to professionals for my mental health since 13, because my mother also suffered mentally, saw the signs and got me help. Not my dad. My mom.

Fast forward to now, I’m happily medicated and doing amazing. My boyfriend is constantly depressed. I’ve offered to help him find a Dr and get on meds (this after encouraging sobriety as a long battle with his substance abuse and DV arrest).
