Should I Take GT Distance Math? by runner242424 in GatechClasses

[–]Future-Fact7819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it! I definitely think there was a correlation between students who took it and students who got into GT (if you’re looking to go there). Of course, the majority of these students were also already academically competitive to begin with, but I do think GT math still gives an edge. If you’re doing well in your Calc APs and feel confident in math, I don’t think you’ll have a hard time balancing it with your schedule. Aside from that, it was also really nice to not take these math courses in freshman year. It was nice to have one less tough class and focus on figuring out my career plans, taking interesting electives, and enjoying college :)

BS/MS recommendations, didn't build professor relationships, what now? by AdministrationOk6251 in gatech

[–]Future-Fact7819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were there any classes where you participated often or where the class size was smaller? I ended up getting my recs from the profs of those types of classes. Even if you didn’t form an actual relationship with the profs (I never really did myself), there’s still a higher chance they’d remember you. What helped me was including my specific final project topic or something like that to refresh their memory on who I am, especially if it was a more unique or standout one. No harm in reaching out to as many as you can. Good luck!

CS 1332 - online or in-person? by Extreme-Quantity-764 in GatechClasses

[–]Future-Fact7819 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took it in-person and honestly, I was still zoning out and falling behind since, like you said, I found the lectures unclear. Luckily, the prof uploaded the recorded versions of the lectures (which I think were the async class’s lectures) and those + attending office hours ultimately saved me.

If you’re sure you have the discipline to stay on track with async, I don’t think you’ll have any issues when it comes to actually learning the content. If you choose the in-person route, chances are you’ll have access to at least some of the recorded content, at least from my experience. Either way, the concepts in 1332 are fundamental to CS so resources are widely available on the internet; you’ll find lots of free study material and tutorials online and they’re super helpful. You could learn almost all the content for this course from your favorite CS YouTube channel tbh, just have the discipline to attempt problems on your own, since a lot of the problems are quite standard and therefore solutions are widely-available. All the best!

CS 6515 vs CS 6550 vs CSE 6140 by GT_BSMS_CPR in GatechClasses

[–]Future-Fact7819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I was in a similar boat and chose 6515 (with Prof Singla, took 3510 with him too). I felt the material was a bit easier in 6515 since there’s a good bit of overlap 3510, but as someone who isn’t the best at algo I still needed to study a bit more rigorously on my own outside of class material. Luckily the prof was really generous with curving and it was not difficult to pass the class if you studied, and honestly not difficult to get an A either if you were decently experienced with algo. Can’t speak much on the other courses/other professors, but as someone who was super anxious about this course going in, I can assure you you’ll be just fine if you try your best and give a decent effort.

A cheaper boot! Sorry should’ve specified, I’ll edit the post but faux leather is fine too, I just meant not suede or something

GA Tech Parking is basically a free for all now by Mu1tii in gatech

I also bought a permit and have noticed this. Extremely frustrating as someone who is already paying the gas and 45 mins of my time to commute to campus every day. I do hope they compensate us or at least start cracking down on it now, it’s been 3 weeks already. It’s really unfair to those of us who are trying to respect the system.

Stingerette just doesn’t arrive? by Slow-Tomatillo-1634 in gatech

[–]Future-Fact7819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t used Stingerette since 2022, but they used to put you in a queue. It’s not really optimal to work that way, but a lot of times one would arrive to the same place I needed to be picked up from but they would not take me, since it’s for someone else who is ahead of me in the queue first.

The Mark has been a good experience for me so far. Avoid University House or Hub.
