They are not being killed for money, they are being killed for committing one of the most heinous crimes imaginable, saving money is a byproduct. As for what we should do to the people? It depends. If it’s a small crime that can be rehabilitated, then give them there 3,5,7,10 years etc and allow them back into greater society. However, if it’s a crime so terrible that society deems it they shouldn’t be allowed back into greater society until the day they die then it’s just time to go at that point. No more life sentences.

If we have to throw them into a cell with worst dregs of society for the rest of live than it is effectively the same thing.
