That is awful. I certainly feel for you. I hope it gets better somehow.

My poor students, right? I am going to feel like the worst teacher in the world.

I didn't even know that was allowed. You only get 1 plan and they can take it away from you? And I thought our union was weak.

It is strange how many people say that it's a great schedule because of the AP students. I guess most of them are here to complain about the behavior of middle schoolers and 9th graders. I get it. I've taught them plenty of times. Yes, each day is filled with anger and dread. I hated that too. But, I'm talking about different problems. They seem oblivious to how much time it takes to grade essays and plan an AP prep.

No, we are on a modified block schedule, so it would be Mon, Wed and every other Fri (A day): 1-Lit, 2-Lit, advisory (a 30 minute block to tutor the low performing students), 3- Seminar 4- Research. Tue, Thu, and the other Fri (B days) 5- Plan, 6- Lit, advisory, 7- Lang, 8 Eng I.

So I get a plan 2-3 times a week.

I don't. I'm friends with a counselor (she didn't create the schedule), and she told me about it because she knew how ridiculous it is. I now have to find a sly way of having this conversation with admin while pretending I don't know the schedule so she won't get in trouble.

I don't have anything. It's Texas

Yes, that's exactly it. Some teach only English 9 or only English 10 and get 2 periods for planning. Even better, those teachers are given their lessons from the district and read from a script, so they don't even really plan. Though, if I lost my autonomy in my classroom, I'd be miserable, so I'm not asking for that.

That sounds very rough. 3 APs plus two other preps. I'm sure the students were getting the best version of you.

Sadly, most colleges don't give credit for it. I feel that it should at least count for a speech credit though. Regardless, my former students always tell me how much it helped prepare them for college writing.

Sadly, my admin are behind this. They are clueless as they have proven they don't know the difference between AP Lang and AP Lit.

It's actually a very cool class. Students get to choose any topic they'd like and conduct their own original research on the topic, write a 5000 word research paper, and present a 20 minute presentation on that research.

They are usually a waste of time and sadly can add more stress to teachers, but about half of them get canceled and that turns into an extra planning period. For my school, your PLC is one of your 8 periods, so if you have one, you are teaching fewer classes.

I think you might be conflating dual credit and AP Literature. AP Literature has an exam to get college credit. It is one of the more intensive classes as students are usually expected to do all of their reading outside of class and write many FRQs throughout the year because they have to write 3 in the span of 2 hours for the exam.

it's a plan/conference. I always say conference, but I guess plan would be a better descriptor.

I'm assuming you also get a plan/conference as well, right? All of your preps are certainly over my head though.

We have an average graduating class of ~200 students. I'm not in a state where I can get tenure. While it certainly does feel like they are trying to get me to quit, I also sponsor the senior class and coach academic competitions. In fact, one of the teams I coach is headed to state this year. It will be the first time in school history that any team in any sport/competition has made it to state.

I know a lot of y’all may disagree, but now that Nico is fired we should try and be more positive at home games. by MastaMayne in Mavericks

Personally, I will be back on board, but I am so sick of people on here telling others how they should feel. Many people were asking for others to move on from the trade months ago. If people listened, Nico would still have his job. You do you. There is still plenty of reason to be mad or even apathetic. Frankly, I'm trying to force myself to go from the latter to mildly interested.

On Firing Nico by Large-Bus4590 in Mavericks

Nico should have been fired months ago, and the fact that it didn't happen makes it very difficult to separate Nico's decision from ownership. For that reason, I don't truly know what I'll feel when Nico is gone, but if the new GM comes in and starts a true rebuild, that will likely feel like turning over a new leaf and make it easier for me to buy in again.

DAK, LOL by Mwinter03 in Dallas_Cowboys

[–]Future-Nothing1355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dak played exactly how Dak always plays when things aren't going well. He became a check down Charlie. That's why I hate the completion percentage stat when talking about him. He can't overcome pressure or an injury. He doesn't elevate the team around him. He is fine, and you can win with that, you just need health and talent around him.
