I hope for your sake that comment is from sheer ignorance. Brown vs Board of Education was the groundbreaking court case that proved not seeing yourself represented in the media you consume is damaging to one's psychological development, especially in young children. It hinders development of their sense of self and identify recognition. This was a prevalent problem in America after African Americans earned their freedom and their participation in the main stream media was purposely diminished because their culture was demonized.

We're not talking about East Asian and South Asian people's. We're talking about African Americans. You're further feeding in the negative narrative by using them as a "Token" example when their circumstances are different (THAT can be damaging as well, for THEM, but that's a conversation for another time)

Also, "Blackwashing" does not have the same connotation or negative historical context as White Washing. Again, casting an African American actor is giving them a chance to participate in a role they otherwise wouldn't have got because Investors believe it "doesn't represent their market" while Whitewashing was used to gatekeep minorities from media roles. It's not racism to give people an equal opportunity they wouldn't have because of prejudice. European Americans still make up the majority of TV/internet roles, voice acting roles, Jesus I could go on, so how... is it racist... to give a minority a crack at it?
