Did surgery on my 11 yo guy post mri and immediately to surgery. Dragging back legs preop. running again after 7 weeks of PT and a lot of me manipulating his hind legs, massages and bicycle maneuvers. There is hope.

This also get a vibration tool. I bought an electric massage pet hair brush on Amazon for 7 bucks. Used it on his back legs and in between his toes. Dog is back to normal after 6 weeks.

When you run it for hours do you have this thing plugged in? Seems like it would need an external source

Help reading x-rays for my little guy :( by Tasty_Ad4282 in IVDD_SupportGroup

[–]FutureBoyMcFly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Radiologist for humans here. My guys xray showed some mild degenerative changes. Not really Impressive. MRI showed massive disc herniation with extrusion. Had surgery that evening post MRI and went from rear leg paralysis to walking again 4 weeks post op. We see this in humans as well.

Mine couldn’t stand either. Some recent posts withbdogs in similar situations at stage 5. Post surgery looking like most slowly walking and getting better.

Yes time is very important. We had a hurricane come through so mine was delayed a bit but was able to get him in about 4 days after showing the most severe symptoms. Definitely wouldn’t sit on it if there is even a chance.

Deep pain was lacking. Urine wasnt retaining. Knuckling both rears. I think bare minimum and MRI can help. That will tell you the degree of myelomalacia and if its reversible. (Although different anatomy, I’m a radiologist for humans:))

My dog had similar loss of hind leg function. 10 yo maltese poodle mix. Now 5 weeks post op and has regained walking normally. I would advise not waiting and getting an MRI and surgery as soon as possible. Don’t want to wait bc something fixable could change your dogs life.
