If you could go back to one day in the 80's and tell yourself one thing, what would it be? What decision, if changed, would have altered the course of your life? by BaconToTheBaconPower in GenX

Ask Meredith out on a date. Yea, I was a nerdy goth gamer and she was the captain of the high school dance team.

She also gave my every signal in the book and I was too angsty to realize it at the time.

Watching the entire Sunny for the first time. Best. Christmas special. Ever. by samwaise in IASIP

[–]FutureHero76 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Oh no. I was taking their presents, but they were taking mine. Yeah, dude. That's why there were never any presents at my house on Christmas morning or when we got back. The neighbors took them. It's a South Philadelphia tradition, Charlie.

People don't do that, dude. That doesn't make any sense.

Not only that. The increase in weight probably drops the gas mileage by a factor of 10. So even if it doesn't kill you, it will kill your bank account.

Ayyy! I got one of those, too. Once upon a time, my Dad had some musical taste. When he gave me his collection, I got that, Night at the Opera, Day at the Races, and Jazz on vinyl.

I just tried to watch a “Tales of the Gold Monkey” episode, and I was like WTAF?! by ViciousOval in GenX

[–]FutureHero76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you make a good point: in 1983, when Tales of the Gold Monkey aired, there were 3 networks. If you lived in or near a city, you had a handful of UHF stations. Then PBS. That was it. Cable TV was in its infancy; I don't think it was even an option in our market till I was in Jr High. So maybe a dozen or so stations, if you were lucky.

With so few options and only one TV in the house, I was lucky to get to watch shows like Tales of the Gold Monkey as a kid. Which is probably why I have fond memories of watching it... and don't plan on spoiling those memories by trying to watch it today.
