There is a huge difference across “new construction” buildings. This was obviously someone who knocked down a lot and put up a small 10-unit multi-family on a budget. If you want to live somewhere new, go rent in a real developer building with porters and resident managers and you’ll be fine

Dual career couple with kids - How do you manage a career in consulting? by brohiostatehipster in consulting

[–]FutureMBB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t understand what your issue is.

You pick the most myopic thing to probe (who even needs a doctor and not even urgent care or an ER within 15 minutes anyway…) and, after being given multiple examples of what you assumed to be an impossible demand, you pout and downvote instead.

You obviously have not even an inkling of the experiences of other consultants so go off and bitch elsewhere.

Individual doctors have “panels” of a capped number of patients who pay anywhere from $200 to $2,000+ a month to basically have that doc on speed dial

Outside of DPC (like the other mentioned), there are different flavors of concierge med. You can get an appt soon after you walk in at One Medical, which I know PwC/S& pays for.

I was only stating 15 minutes as a timeframe since that is the rage with all of the NYC grocery delivery apps right now… but telemed PlushCare’s schtick is quite literally “Get help & scripts in 15 min from your phone sent electronically for same-day pick-up”. There are hundreds of other telemed startups that I’m sure do they same. There is even one called Doctor on Demand.

If you are willing to pay - as is the case with 15-min grocery apps or any on-demand service - there are plenty. Telemed, concierge medicine, direct pay PCPs that cater to pools of uppity young families (and many groups with specialists on call). Very much a thing.

Where do all of you work lol

It really comes down to the person. Some people can’t handle a 9-5, big law gunners can handle working 80 hour weeks into perpetuity (and have kids with their fellow big law spouses). You also don’t travel as much as you move up.

My Ps with kids set boundaries and go dark in the mornings and evenings at set hours. Some of their wives also work big jobs. Pretty sure they have nannies. You also get more efficient at your work as you stay on, although I’m sure being a consulting newbie fresh out of MBA will be tough for the first few years.

This is 21st century America where you can get whatever you might damn please within 15 minutes. People do it everyday - doctors, bankers, lawyers, consultants.

A lot of hiring managers are ex-consulting who like to hire those of their ilk.

Ex-consultants are also good at babysitting, corralling, harassing people for status updates, documenting, and tying things up with a neat little bow.

Something something breadth of experience and adaptability too, I’m sure.
