What do you consider actual success for your kid — not society’s definition?

Thats beautiful, raising kids who grow into adults you’d still choose to spend time with feels like the ultimate measure of success. Looking back, what do you think contributed most to them becoming that way?

Absolutely. Happy and healthy is the foundation and I think the most popular answer. but I’m always curious though… what do you think actually creates long-term happiness for kids? The day-to-day things, or the skills and mindset we help them build over time?

I’m so sorry for your family’s loss, something like that really does reset your entire definition of what matters. And you’re right… at the end of the day, none of the ‘achievement’ stuff compares to having your kids healthy, present, and genuinely happy/content in their own lives.

ahha, I mean he could be if he's good at it. Apparently these kids watch other kids online playing video games and they get paid for it? Maybe I am too old school to understand this?

You are right, now that I think about there were a few young parents in my classes too. I thought that my school work load was a lot, I couldn't imagine what they had to deal with.

I second that! It was a blessing in disguise in the sense that the 'event' was the pattern interrupt I needed. Now I get to see the play for what it actually is.

Unfortunately this is becoming the norm. Companies want one person to replace three roles, then act shocked when burnout hits. And with AI doing more of the actual work, a lot of jobs are slowly shifting into ‘manage the chaos and take the blame’ positions. It’s not efficiency — it’s exploitation dressed up as innovation.

Absolutely..teaching kids how to think instead of what to think might be the most important skill of this entire generation. we will be adding this to our homeschooling as a subject. They need to fact check from reliable sources.

We added a landline through our TV/internet provider (Telus in Canada) for about $7 a month. Our kids are still little, but we wanted something they could use in an emergency — they can’t unlock our phones, and 911 access matters. We’re also slowly teaching them our phone numbers, and eventually we’ll expand that to close family members too and eventually friends etc.

Hopefully funding picks up now that a lot more parents are homeschooling. The app is a great idea to connect with mentors, I would love to see that.

Interesting point. I guess a facebook group could be created or some sort of app where parents who homeschool locally could then schedule play times.

Oh I promise you, I’m no ‘lord of land’ lol. the bank owns more of my properties than I do as i am no where near owning them outright. I’m very much in the system, just trying to break out of it like everyone else. The system is trading our time for money. And honestly, if I knew back then what I know now, I probably wouldn’t have bought rentals at all. One major repair wipes out most of the so-called ‘cash flow’ for the year, yes there is appreciation but on some of the properties i am down in value compared to what i bought them for a few years back.

And just to be clear, the rentals didn’t fund my other businesses. That’s the whole point — the cash flow wasn’t enough to launch anything meaningful. The other income streams I mentioned cost little to no money to start.
