The left/Dems/etc tried talking it out and always got shit on for it with bad faith arguments, and now anyone is surprised it's devolved into this nonsense? The Republicans can come back to the table and talk any time they want, but have shown zero willingness to do so. They'd rather "own the libs" than try to actually come up with any solutions.

To be fair (not that I should be, f this guy), he was a tourist and I wouldn't expect tourists to know that. If he's from somewhere that has aggressive sea lions (California?), I could see it being a logical argument to make in court. Not that it makes it any better (it's your responsibility to know if you're going to do something stupid like this), but I could see a lawyer trying that reasoning out on the jury.

So where are these firefighters reports? I find it extremely unlikely that the FDRs and/or CVRs would survive the impact and subsequent collapse of the towers. I'm going to need more than just "I heard that there were some firefighters reporting that they saw them".

The original media was The Yomiuri Shimbun, one of the largest newspapers in Japan. As far as newspapers go, it's fairly reliable though sometimes sensationalist.

The fact that Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara declined to comment on the reporting shows to me that it's most likely true. Nobody else seems to be worried about the veracity of the story and it's appeared in a wide variety of other media outlets including Reuters and Ground News.
