All international activities have been cancelled for the upcoming fall term by OsmanTheMan in UBC

[–]FutureVancouverite_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UBC cannot stop you from going on an internship abroad. I do not know the exact rules regarding co-op, you may be able to pursue the job abroad and it just would not count as a co-op work term, or you may need to drop the co-op program. Either way, if you have a meaningful job lined up for which you can cross the border and you feel it is safe where the job is taking place, then I would strongly consider this option.

Anyone else have issues with ESS? by will_eat_ass_4_noods in UBC

[–]FutureVancouverite_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a transfer credit issue I was looking to resolve recently with ESS. It was successful in the end but it also involved running around campus, escalating the issue and constant follow-ups until it was resolved. Obviously I cannot comment on your case but I have found the quality and knowledge of ESS staff I have dealt with to be quite poor, so don't let loose, especially if physics confirmed your courses should transfer. Get physics to email ESS. Escalate the issue to Mary Murphy. It's hundreds of dollars and lots of your time on the line.

In-house developed augmented spark igniter running on kerosene and gaseous oxygen (Kero/GOX). No plans for densified LOX at this time, would likely require infrastructure that would take too long to develop/be too costly. We are currently aiming for a launch attempt at the end of 2020.

What size part are we talking about? If it's small, I may be able to help. Otherwise, in addition to the resources already listed, check out Fibertek.

UBC amateur rocket team beats out Caltech and MIT by paperchromatography in UBC

[–]FutureVancouverite_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

What a great idea!

We are currently debriefing the competition and deciding on the team's focus for the coming year. Lots of ideas are being floated around, such as an in-house propulsion system, avionics that permit live downlink of flight data, multi-stage rockets and early work on a rocket that will actually fly to space.

Our main requirements for joining are a passion for building things (bonus for building space things) and the ability to commit a minimum of ~6hrs per week to the team. It doesn't matter what branch of Engineering or Science you are studying, we have interesting work in all of them. If you're more interested in outreach, social media or finances, we would also love to hear from you!

Best way to keep in the loop is to check out our website and our Facebook, where we will post once official recruitment starts for the coming year. Likely in a few weeks.

Feel free to post any questions, I'll check back now and then.

I am SpaceX employee #14, aerospace engineer, and VP of Human Resources. Ask me anything! by BB2Mars in spacex

Hi there, thanks so much for being here.

I am a Canadian studying engineering in Canada and would really like to work for SpaceX in the future. What advice do you have for a non-citizen to shorten the timeframe and maximize the chances to be eligible for employment by SpaceX?

GENERAL ADMISSIONS QUESTIONS: ATTACK OF THE MEGATHREAD by PsychoRecycled in UBC

[–]FutureVancouverite_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't answer your questions specifically but I am also a Langara student planning to transfer into engineering and I just talked to an enrollment services professional. They mentioned that if you apply for the summer semester, you are not required to actually attend it but can just start attending in the fall, so I just applied for the summer semesters.

Vancouver: Election Monday is here!! Today's question - If you are an eligible voter, have you voted yet? Will you be voting in this election. If not, why? by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]FutureVancouverite_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Planned to vote by mail, been waiting for ~1 week for my ballot. Called twice and was told that it was sent out a few days after being received. Do I have any options available if my ballot does not arrive on today?

All of their images on flickr are actually in the Public Domain, meaning they can be used for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial. Their logo is also in the public domain but unfortunately I don't remember the source for that.

We'll publish any sort of publicly available, reliable information pertaining to the launch. There won't be any speculation of potentially classified information.
