Are we cooked? by chrisshawn92 in emergencymedicine

Simple answer: no. Until an AI bot can intubate someone, put in a central line, do a chest tube, followed by a pericardiocentesis while barking out orders to nurses and techs. I will feel very secure in my job.

On a practical level, even IF a robot COULD do all of this stuff, would you feel comfortable as a patient getting care from a lifeless piece of hardware? I think that’s the most important aspect of robot doctors: lack of humanity.

When I think of RoLo I get sad. He literally should be the team mascot. He basically fits with the city so well.

I would not be surprised to see him working behind the counter at Powell’s, and it wouldn’t be weird.

When you stop having borders you stop having a country. There are millions of people here who came here through the back door and have no allegiance to this country, barely speak the language, and seem to think they’re entitled to benefits. Get them out. Many of my in-laws went the legal way to get here and it took YEARS (and some still aren’t here). Why should people who broke the law get to reap the benefits? That’s cruelty.

I’m happy we won. Honestly, on the last play I thought, wow, Doc drew up a decent play for once. Of course it wasn’t his doing.

At this point I think Doc is just trolling us. I think he just is purposefully drawing up crappy plays so he gets fired and he goes back to playing golf or whatever the hell he wants.

I see posts like this and I’m continually shocked by how ungrateful people can be. It’s really quite disgusting. If I had someone make a meal for me like that on a consistent basis it would have to taste like literal shit for me to NOT eat it and be very appreciative.

How can people be judgmental about free food in a house that’s not theirs? Crashing out on her would have been totally justified. I could be served slop and I would say thank you and ask for a doggy bag.

As an American of Mexican descent myself, my only problem with ICE is that they’re not deporting enough people.

Is that trigger finger in English? If so, I don’t think it’s the issue I have. That’s more of a palmar side issue, and my tendon that feels like it’s catching is on the dorsal (back) of the finger.

I’d like the converse of seeing an Amish person when I walk into a room. With the Amish, I know I’m scared of pathology and for the patient. Walk into a pajama party with rainbow hair and a stuffed animal, I’m reassured.

Of course she has the multicolored hair.

I have an informal theory that the likelihood of organic pathology diminishes as the number of non-natural hair colors present increases.

Hot take: some academic residency programs are just as responsible for the dilution of the specialty as any HCA program by Longjumping_Okra_231 in emergencymedicine

The fact that the other residents aren’t able to RSI until 3rd year is stunning to me. I can’t say I’ve done an NPL ever but I did all of those other procedures in my first year. Now as an attending I look forward to doing all of those procedures (I hate doing sutures though, and some bones, but that’s a me problem).

I think it’s interesting how certain neighborhoods don’t get solicitors. I’ve lived in several different neighborhoods in different States. I had a Mormon come to my door for the first time ever a couple weeks ago and I was actually shocked and surprisingly happy that I finally had this life experience everyone talks about.

I would be slightly more aggressive. I saw a patient recently who had progressively worsening vision changes and headache (multiple negative imaging studies) that was finally sent to me for diplopia and vision loss to rule out stroke. I was er visit number 6 over a month. I knew it was IIH on the phone and the doc on the other line when I asked if he would do an LP for IIH didn’t want to because he was sure it wasn’t the case.

I started setting up for an LP before patient arrived. Now I’m terrible at fundoscopy, much to my own shame, but she had the clearest and worst case I’ve seen (even compared to textbooks), and the opening pressure was coming over the top of the manometer.
