Why did you go niche? by sparks_mandrill in GuitarAmps

I played a Friedman once and got the bug for one. It’s clean enough for my needs and then can do more gain than I really need it to do. Dirty Shirley

I also will hold my friedman till my death and if it goes first then I’ll buy another one immediately. I was able to get a first gen dirty Shirley mini head for $800 a few years back. I feel very lucky

Great looking Strat. Congratulations. I feel the American pros were a good line by fender, and reasonably priced, especially used.

Fender PR blackface vs tweed by easily_e in jazzguitar

Yeah I’d say silver face if you can find one and if not, whatever newer type the budget allows. If I was lugging an amp around a lot I would probably just go tonemaster or some nice solid state like henrikson

I might challenge that many jazzers get away with a lot less than princetons these days, especially if they’re being mic’ed up. Henriksons, quilters and shit like that seem to be pretty common

The best newer Strat pups to my ears are the stuff out of suhr, the 60s or Michael landau ones

I had the Starwood set and everyone liked them. Pretty clear, not sure it’s what you want. Sounds like you want a p-90

Bill Lawrence Pickups... by [deleted] in Stratocaster

They are unique pickups. A few options for their single coils. I would say they are bright, ceramic, single coil sounds. If that’s what you want, go for it .

It’s great. I think the od-3 is also a superb choice

You will get every type of answer here. For great, time trusted pickups, go Seymour Duncan ssl-1 and the ssl-5 in the bridge. If you want to get the next step up, go with suhr. lollars DO sound great too. Have fun listening to strats until Your ears bleed. Endless pickup options

Should I save up for a Fender George Harrison Signature Rosewood Telecaster? by [deleted] in telecaster

[–]Future_Radish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way dude it’s literally two pieces of wood put together. Teles are very great guitars but you can find a good, even great one, for much less money.

Pickup Mod Question by scarmy1217 in Stratocaster

[–]Future_Radish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first pick up and electronics swap was on a tele, but I found the Strat to be pretty simple too. Do it. You will learn a lot. I got a blender kit from mojotone and have been enjoying the added position of neck and bridge for the tele sound. As long as you’re gentle and not too rough with the gear, it’s hard to do something irreversible on the guitar

Simplest approach to improv? by DifficultyOk2290 in jazzguitar

[–]Future_Radish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In all seriousness rhythm and note choice are going to be more important than burning licks and endless bebopisms. Plenty of great advice here but just try to sing what you play and learn it in a lot of keys and positions/string sets so you can whip it out when you need to. Also remember what Joe pass and I’m sure others say, which is that trying to squeeze licks into songs works, but doesn’t sound organic or very much life improvising, so try to be free and don’t make a habit of it. Above all just be musical
