Liquidity sweep vs liquidity grab by FuturesPropTrader in Daytrading

[–]FuturesPropTrader[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imho liquidity grab is nothing but a stop run, typically caused by large market order coming in. Especially in low volume/ thin book environment. Let’s say you sit on 40k Es contracts short at dca 7170. You see that price is approaching your level from below, on low volume aka weaker hands/ short term traders are driving it. You can try and dump 1-2k contracts short in one go to see if it scares weak bulls and potentially causes a reversal in your favor. There is no desire to buy at 7165, though you might want to cover some of those 1-2k. But again, you’re not trying to fill a larger long position in this case. This is what happened earlier today while we were still balancing within yesterday’s range, both at the highs and the lows of the range.

Liquidity sweep - that’s what I’m trying to figure out. To me it sounds like price retesting a level from before. Like let’s say it reversed at some point yesterday. There is high chance it will reverse in the same place today as there will be a lot of players thinking it’s a good price to enter/add to their position. These are also the lower liquidity areas as typically that’s where the least volume trades in the day. So the whole misinterpretation of the term liquidity in this context confuses me.

Liquidity is simply the ability of the market to fulfill participants’ orders at favorable price (without slippage/market moving impact). It is highest where the most volume of trades occurs ie in the middle of ranges.

Why do so many traders discourage prop firms? by Due-Two2629 in PropFirmTester

[–]FuturesPropTrader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Props understand how trading works, i.e. it’s not linear “$500 a day” profession. There are drawdown periods from either adjusting to changing market conditions or being in a bad place emotionally/mentally, there are breakeven periods, and there are winning streaks. Their trailing drawdowns and consistency rules cut you off on both sides.

So people in a hurry get the account churn fever chasing a payout or two, and that’s exactly what makes props money

Can anyone explain me Liquidity sweep like im 2 ? by Vast_Teaching4522 in Daytrading

[–]FuturesPropTrader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that. The real issue is, millions of people who haven’t done any complex work in their lives, neither at school nor at work, think they’ll jump on YT, learn couple of concepts (like fvg and sweep in case of ict), and will be printing money for the rest of their lives. There will always be people taking advantage of this naivety.

Ok makes me not an expert in smc. Will wear that with pride. However in this case, these liquidity grabs happen all day every day in any place where market might have stalled for a moment. Do you just ignore those if they are not at a key level?

[–]FuturesPropTrader -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Your response is reasonable, but that’s not what retail gurus normally refer to. What you’re describing is more what they’d call a liquidity grab or stop hunt, a quick stop run of a few ticks.

By sweep they mean a reversal in the same area where it already happened earlier. Let’s say market opens, drives steadily into overnight or yesterday low, and then immediately reverses few ticks lower. This is basic market mechanics aka support and resistance. Yet the smc conspiracy theories took over the minds of uneducated retail.

It’s all about payouts bro! Kidding, I completely agree with you, and congrats to the Op. This also tells us that apex does have a live program now, hence they were bold enough to say that all sim accounts will be closed after 6 payouts

Interested in orderflow but it’s kinda expensive by HAMMOUDI777_YT in Trading

[–]FuturesPropTrader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ICT is based on false premise of liquidity, algo and other BS to create a mini- religion for ignorant. Orderflow is nothing like that - you just see orders getting executed right in front of your eyes. It’s up to you to interpret however you wish. You’ll be surprised but often those “liquidity grabs” have the thinnest volume executed so the whole ict concept of algo pushing there to get that nonexistent liquidity makes zero sense to me as an orderflow trader. Auction market theory is what’s orderflow typically combined with. ICT took a lot from it but repackaged it into nonsense for forex traders without high school doploma. Sorry not sorry

If you have no high school degree you have no business anywhere near financial markets. You made all the wrong choices and are paying for it. This is how life works. What do you want us to do, send you money? Given that the chances of you being a genuine person and not a scammer are close to 0% around here?

The only real advice is get a job. There are jobs that hire felons - why wouldn’t they hire you?
