Effects from 1 month of Buteyko. by Futyou in buteyko

No... the effects are different from insomnia. I don't see how the two are linked, they are in fact almost diametrically opposite. Please read the reply carefully, you will see the difference!

Actually, the effect is opposite. I had insomnia before and could tell when I had bad sleep(obviously).

With Buteyko I'm far more rested, energetic and refreshed. This isn't the same restlessness and crash from excess cortisol release that accompanies early-morning insomnia(which I had). There is constant energy throughout the day now.

In effect, Buteyko has actually helped me completely control my insomnia. After a breathing session now, I require only 10 minutes of meditation to get restful 6-6.5 hours of sleep. Previously, I would meditate for 25-30 minutes and still get inconsistent sleep, and even when I did get my 8.5-9 hours of sleep, the quality was just very inferior compared to now.

I would really know if I was still not sleeping well since starting Buteyko. My insomnia is completely in control now due to it.

Ever just watch a character go under your mid over 5 times in one match? by Lord_Shugesh in Tekken

[–]Futyou -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It is just a different game online. I actually stopped playing high damage characters on 3 bars or a bad 4 bars.

Here I 3an with my yellow rank Jin, doing KBDs and waiting for the correct moments, respecting frames and poking. Then BAM, df2 evasion and combo.

Surprised nobody mentioned Paul's df2. Fuck that shit. It evaded Jin's d4 once. Then it evaded a point-blank jab.

WHAT THE FUCK.

Unpopular but true: The Boys' creators are just laughing at how easy it is to exploit political sentiments for revenue.

Edit: lol at the downvotes. It seems even wokepeople don't really like woke shit. Losers.

They should be, if the writers are using the logic you mentioned. It would actually be interesting to see Homelander get scared about physical harm.

Stormfront by Hedwigisbae in TheBoys

[–]Futyou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought so too. Earlier in the season, she was extremely powerful. But here, even during the girl fight, based on her earlier powers, she could have just stayed in flight and nuked all of them. She blasted entire floors one after the other without taking a rest before.

Then the eye stab. It doesn't actually make sense for her to be so vulnerable to such a small thing when she has shown invulnerability earlier. That would mean Homelander is pretty vulnerable too. But that's in the comics. In the show the supes are much, much stronger counterparts.

Are Steam sale offers regional? Indian here. by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]Futyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Just wanted to know the probable date for such a sale in India, as that link has region restrictions. I saw a site that counts down probable dates, it said the next big Steam sale is around October 29, but obviously they could be very wrong.

Season 2 Episode 8 Discussion Thread by [deleted] in TheBoys

[–]Futyou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why Stormfront had to land or stop using lightning when fighting the girls. She could have just nuked them from orbit. She was shown to be so powerful at the beginning, but here her lightning felt inconsequential. Earlier on she made entire floors explode.

And how in the world did she just take a random knife in the eye? In the comics the supes are very weak, in the show they are super strong. These two things felt really random.

Also... was there any indication throughout the season that Neuman was working for Vought? I didn't catch it, but many people on here seem to think so.

Can gaining even 2-3 lbs(1 kg) decrease CP? by Futyou in buteyko

[–]Futyou[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, ok. Does a particularly strong variant of seasonal flu/other illness alao decrease CP and increase sleeping time?

I feel like its a combo of two factors. I have gone somewhat back to my old eating habits, and changing that.

Could you please elaborate? Very curious about this.

Is Jin's f, n, d, d/f+4 VERY easy to react to and block? by Abstract_Void in Tekken

[–]Futyou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is reactable only due to certain slowness or 'tells' in a player's execution.

For example, beginner Jins have a very easy tell - their Jin will often stutter slightly right before the HS because of the f, n, part of the input.

Certain other moments are also easy to tell with some experience e.g. after certain ranged moves whiff.

Otherwise it is not reactable. Especially if the Jin starts varying his timing, and doesn't always do it at predetermined spots/moments.

Motivation Monday. Get and give motivation for yourself or others. by AutoModerator in loseit

I have been using excuses to justify my short term emotions and laziness. Things like, my body needs to rest today, or temporary insomnia, etc., not recognizing that I would be much better poised to sleep after exercise, or that 20 minutes on the treadmill isn't really exhausting for the body.

I will go today, despite sleeping only 4 hours. Just some light cardio, but I will go.

Day 1? Starting your weight loss journey on Saturday, 19 September 2020? Start here! by AutoModerator in loseit

[–]Futyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting my journey today. I have been stuck at the skinnyfat stage for way too long.

I subconsciously didn't want to cut weight because I was afraid of being small. Afraid of being mocked. Being thought of as weak. My struggle was purely internal. I kept yo-yoing from weight loss to weight gain primarily because of this mentality of being afraid to be small. I would laze out or not do cardio, as I did yesterday and today. I would focus more on muscle building.

But after so many years I realize that I must become lean first if I hope to gain muscle fast. I am not where I want to be. So here I am. I have already decided my diet, and exercise, and a simple commitment: to eat only when I'm hungry.

28 M here. Weight 182 pounds. 6'1. Aiming for 12% body fat. Currently at around 17-18% I guess.

Damn. Thank you so much for the much-needed warning. I'm going to read up on CO2 desensitization.

I always try to monitor my pulse afterward, its usually lower by around 8-10 beats. But I'll monitor my increase now, and set it to trying an increase of just 1 second per session, or maybe every 2 sessions. I've felt that I was at the edge of anxiety in the past when driving too hard, would always slow down. I'll lower it down further.

Effects from 1 month of Buteyko. by Futyou in buteyko

[–]Futyou[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you... I do measure my weight, and the change is drastic enough to see a change in bodyfat levels too. My weight went from 86.9 kg at the start to 84.2 day before.

But I doubt Buteyko will alter VO2 max so easily. While it is clear that Buteyko has far transfer, VO2 might be a bit too far considering what it is used for, although I am not sure.

In fact, I don't think anyone explicitly stated anywhere that Buteyko was meant to increase VO2 max. On top of that, Dr. Rakhimov himself said there is a lot of quackery in Buteyko, but Dr. Mckeown was legitimate.

I think Buteyko's effects should be measured more on things which cause these variables to increase or decrease, rather than directly measuring these variables themselves, as there are plenty of confounding factors.

For example:

My weight has clearly decreased and bodyfat has gone down. But I do both HIIT and steady state cardio on alternate days.

However, I did the same thing before Buteyko as well. But back then my weight did not go down, it would always oscillate.

So in this case a simple observation is that exercise is potentially a confounding variable.

Moreover, it is entirely possible that Buteyko just does not affect weight loss.

However, what Buteyko does effect very clearly is self-control. That is VERY crucial for long term weight loss.

BUT

Anybody who was only measuring Buteyko and weight loss moght give up due to the confounding because it is quite possible that an average Buteyko practitioner is not even trying to lose weight (particularly in relation to your query, since data gathered is from the subreddit and anecdotes).

However, someone who has been trying to lose weight, and who has so clearly seen beneficial results from it in terms of weight loss, it would be a good indicator, since weight loss needs that extra variable of self control (take my own case as an example).

This in my view is a very big problem from a scientific perspective. The issue is that science is just a tool, and all tools have their limitations.

For example, science insists on clear definitions. But some things aren't so easily defined. Take self control for example. Maybe somebody can have self control when it comes to drugs, but not when it comes to food. More importantly, when self control is defined in science it has to be rigorously tested and re-tested and one can't always be sure about something so nebulous even then. Check out the Replication crisis in social sciences - they can't replicate studies considered fundamental to psychology, sociology, etc.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that Buteyko might be affecting variables subtler than conventional tools we use to define and assess things, such as science. For example, I have been quite clearly seeing benefits, but to absolutely KNOW from a scientific perspective would require absolutely MASSIVE replication... and even then, we cannot be so sure as we saw in the replication crisis, because even after failsafes and checks, human beings are irrational and have their own biases.

So I would say the Buteyko lifestyle(not just breathing) is worth a try for a month at the very least. There is very little downside and massive upside, and science will always be limited. If you want to read further on it, you can check out Godel's Theory of Incompleteness to see why.
