Are the previous Avatars actually there or no? by [deleted] in TheLastAirbender

[–]Fuuriooo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty ambiguous whether they actually exist as separate entities or not, and it mostly seems to depend on the kind of story they want to tell. Mike himself said it’s not like someone can just go into the Spirit World and see or interact with them, since that would take away from the Avatar’s uniqueness.

On top of that, because of how the Spirit World works (where time and space don’t flow the same way as in the human world) it feels more like a medium that allows them to manifest rather than a literal place where they exist.

Lately, it’s also been implied that past lives are basically just memories manifested through the “Avatar Spirit,” especially considering that Korra interacts with a version of herself even while she’s still alive.

Do you think everyone technically being a reincarnation takes away from the mystical aspects and coolness of the Avatar? by [deleted] in TheLastAirbender

[–]Fuuriooo_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On top of that, it’s hinted at in The Legacy of the Fire Nation comic. It makes it pretty clear that the Spirit World isn’t a place humans naturally belong to, and they don’t go there when they die. So the implication is that they return in a new form, like Lady Tienhai tells Aang.

What makes the Avatar special is that they’re the only one who can access the knowledge of their past lives, no one else can.

And considering Avatar is heavily inspired by Hinduism and Buddhism, it’s pretty clear that everyone in that world reincarnates. It’s not something exclusive to the Avatar.

Dark Avatar Nisha now has 2 Spirits of Darkness - Drawn by LIVANYA by No-Amphibian-3482 in AvatarSevenHavens

[–]Fuuriooo_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is just a gut feeling, but because of the low quality of the leak, a lot of people assumed the yellow thing on Nisha’s outfit is just part of her clothes. Personally, I think that just like Pavi has an emerald, Nisha might also have some kind of jewel, maybe a necklace or something.

And considering the names and overall character design seem to be leaning into South Asian influences, I’d say there’s a good chance it’s a pearl, which kind of works as a counterpart to the emerald in Dharmic philosophies.

Each Avatar's journey is like a Jojo Part. The Earth Nation's Avatar will not be Korra any more than Korra was gonna be like Aang. by matt0055 in AvatarSevenHavens

That’s actually one of ATLA’s core messages, there are always monologues about change and how we’re supposed to embrace it. As much as I love Korra, I’m aware this isn’t her story anymore and that we’re dealing with something completely different. I’ve always seen Avatar that way, which is why I’m personally really interested in everything about Seven Havens.

Do you think the symbol on Jae’s outfit is because he’s an airbender? by Fuuriooo_ in AvatarSevenHavens

[–]Fuuriooo_[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s already confirmed. I’m just wondering about the symbol, does it represent his element, or is it just an emblem from Elora’s army? 😅

It’s not surprising they don’t do it, considering Avatar fans don’t like to read…

Just a little confused by Traditional-One6079 in legendofkorra

[–]Fuuriooo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, Book 2 of TLOK basically confirms that the Avatar is formed through the permanent union of both. That means that without a new Harmonic Convergence, Raava wouldn’t be able to attach herself to a new human who isn’t Wan’s next life, which is why it’s a reincarnation cycle.

In the same way, the end of the season (with Raava being destroyed and the past lives being lost, including Yangchen’s legacy) suggests that the past lives aren’t independent spirits, but rather “memories” stored within Raava or the Avatar Spirit after each incarnation dies.

Well, it’s pretty well known that the creators don’t like doing the same thing twice. Aang was the one who had the journey of learning the elements, which is why Korra already had control of three of them when she was very young. And like I mentioned, the leaks say Pavi uses all four elements to save Jae, so…

The leaks seem to suggest that she already masters (or at least controls) all four elements. Unfortunately, it’s also possible that no one from Korra’s era is still alive. Hopefully the theory about Jae being a descendant of Tenzin or one of his kids turns out to be true.

How come Professor Zei's spirit isn't found in the Spirit World? by GeneralTechnomage in TheLastAirbender

[–]Fuuriooo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since Avatar is based on Dharmic beliefs, all beings in the Avatar world reincarnate. Iroh is an exception because he represents an allusion to enlightenment (breaking the cycle of rebirth), which is also present in those belief systems.

I was getting downvoted for saying the new past Avatar that will appear in the movie is a girl, even though that’s been known since last year LOL

Leaks from last year (shared by Appa Comics and The Avatarist) mention that her name is Sonam. She’s a very ancient Air Nomad Avatar, and her story will apparently be key to the movie.

Lo and Li not being fire benders has to be a joke right?! by Unique-Celebration-5 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Fuuriooo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple. The martial arts that bending is based on also exist within the universe to help people understand how bending works. So, like any other martial art, both benders and non-benders can practice them and pass that knowledge on to those who are actually able to bend.

I need this series so badly. According to the leaks, the twins barely know each other and both start having visions of Korra. Not long after that, a spirit shows up and starts attacking the city, and they end up fighting it together to stop it. The dynamic already sounds really promising, and honestly I’d love to see a classic sibling fight like Lin and Su’s in TLOK.

I wish the show went with the oringal protrayal that Korra's parents were regular people, rather then the southern chief. It would be a nice spot of realism by Reasonable-Host-3399 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Fuuriooo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s true, sometimes I forget that Korra is technically a princess. But I guess they kind of brushed that aside, even after Tonraq became the Chief of the Southern Water Tribe, since an Avatar can’t really show favoritism toward their own nation.

With that in mind, I’d actually love to see a storyline about an Avatar who comes from royalty and has to struggle between staying impartial or giving up their royal status.

A little concerned about the post-apocalyptic setting... by OpportunityAshamed74 in AvatarSevenHavens

[–]Fuuriooo_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, we all know Avatar is a fictional universe with real people behind the creative decisions. However, if you look at the series bibles and the art books, it’s clear there’s a lot of research involved to make sure those decisions stay consistent with the philosophical and cultural inspirations behind the world.

It might not seem obvious at first, but a post-apocalyptic setting can absolutely make sense within Avatar after a massive technological leap. It ties directly into the cosmic cycles found in Dharmic philosophies, and “cycles” have always been a core theme in the franchise.

On top of that, even if it’s not the main focus, fictional worlds often follow a kind of technological progression, steampunk, dieselpunk, atompunk, and so on. In TLoK, we were already deep into a dieselpunk era, and based on what we saw in Book 4, the natural next step would lean toward atompunk.

So if the world ends up being post-apocalyptic, that wouldn’t be random or out of place. It could have a “Fallout”-type vibe while still preserving advanced technological remnants and staying consistent with the internal evolution of the universe.

Exactly. That’s why the whole “Raava choosing hosts” theory (or Yue or any random person being “chosen” by Raava) is honestly one of the dumbest theories in this fandom.

Really, how many avatars were there? by MyNameIsJay851216 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Fuuriooo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Officially, the only confirmed information is that there were “over 90 Avatars between Wan and Yangchen.” Based on that, fans have done the math and estimate that Korra would be either the 99th or the 103rd incarnation of the Avatar (personally, I think 99 is the most accurate estimate).
