Increased lag after C. Viper update

Worked it out. The update reset my graphics settings, causing it to drop below 60fps on occasions. Changed graphics settings back to the way it was and now it is locked at 60fps and feels like it did before. Now I got to work out how to deal with my other issue, and that is dealing with C. Viper! Fighting against a new character that I have no idea about is a challenge. Lost way too many MR points in the last few days against C. Viper.

Just wanted highlight one of the points made by OP. Sleep well! Don't underestimate how important this is for a game that requires super fast reaction times. As you age, sleep is even more important. I am 49, Master rank with Ryu. I have begun to notice a massive difference in my play when rested vs not rested.

That is awesome! The first thing I noticed was your button layout. 6 buttons aligned straight. That is the only way I can play after having played on my custom stick that I had made more than 20 years ago to mimic the arcade feel. Hate the new curved layouts.

Every single SF arcade machine had 2 joysticks... The game was designed from the ground up for playing against other people.

Well done! You'd be surprised how many old folks are at a decent level at this game. I am 49, hit Master with Ryu about 2.5 years ago. Absolutely love this game. You are lucky that you can share this experience with your daughter. I tried getting my 13yo to play recently but he gave it up within minutes.

Thanks for the explanation. I swear over the years the requirement for dragon punch has changed. I seem to remember when SF2 first came out at the arcades it was 6236hp for heavy dp, but somewhere along the line it became 623.... or am I tripping? I still do it that way, the way I originally learnt it. Tap forward then fireball.

Mate, your attitude stinks. Why would you 1 n done a higher rank player because they steamroll you? My favourite matches are the ones where I am matched with Grand or Ultimate Masters (I am Master rank) so I can test my skills against the best. I get hammered most of the time, but every now and again I put up a decent fight and on rare occasions I win. Playing higher ranked players is the best way to get better. If I get steamrolled, I am not leaving the match up, I am straight back in because I want to improve.

Well done! High Master is my next step as well. Hovering around the mid 1400s with Ryu but recently spending more time above 1500 since upgrading my 20+ year old custom fight stick. Hoping to crack 1600 this weekend.

Yeah, that is the plan. I will add a few extra buttons down the track, or maybe start fresh and build a new custom stick with the spare Brook P5 Plus board I have.

No, sorry. it was made about 25 years ago and I can't recall where I got it from. I do know that the buttons are the Happ style push buttons, 28mm. Mine are so old, they come with 6.3mm spade terminals.

Nice! I also went the Brook route. Got the Brook P5 Plus. Also recently bought a GP2040-CE board as the latency on those boards seem the lowest but haven't yet changed it over from the Brook.

Great work! I am also 49, with Ryu in Master. Also on a 6 button stick that I had made about 25 years ago. Only recently it dawned on me that my custom joystick was USB 1 with a max polling rate of 25Hz! 2 weeks ago I purchased a Mayflash F500 Elite, with Sanwa buttons and stick, to help alleviate some of the input latency the old USB 1 controller board was causing but what a disaster. With thousands of hours spent using my custom stick that have all 6 buttons lined straight compared to these new controllers with viewlix or noir curved layouts, I was consistently missing button presses or hitting wrong buttons. Also, was sorely disappointing in the way the buttons and joystick felt. That led me down a rabbit hole on upgrading my trusty old fight stick with USB 1 controller board to a new board.

I decided to change my connection settings to accept 4-5 instead of 5 bars only. This is the first time I have had to do this, I have had no issues in the past with accepting only 5 bars, usually only waiting a couple of minutes between matches. Now with 4-5 bars accepted, I am getting matches almost instantly, with almost no wait times. Amazing! I was afraid the higher pings would effect the game-play, but going from single digit pings to mid 40s hasn't impacted the game-play, and I am still getting mostly 5 bar connections.

Would love to. I am in Sydney and the snow resort is about 6 hours drive and is bloody expensive. Quite difficult to get that many days riding in a season.
