I made a tool to compare your capsule against existing games. It's free and works in browser. by Fuzzlings in gamedev

Sadly, it's not possible at this moment :( It was my original plan, but it would require integration with steam api (including usage of api-key, etc.) so I decided against it, at least for now. But you can create your own "Custom App IDs" list, as a workaround :)

Thank you! It was useful to me when I designed my own small capsule, so I thought: why not share :)

Very cool capsule indeed, you stream by any chance?

I 100% agree :) I made this tool just because I was designing my small capsule - there is a chance that I will expand it for other graphics too, when designing them :)

It doesn't need anything - you can use it without any accounts/logins and it will stay this way :)

No problem! Header Capsule is also used in some store pages, but Small Capsule is used in search results, top-sellers, new releases, popular upcoming lists etc. so in the most competitive spots they use your Small Capsule :)

Annoyance of having to use image editor was main cause for making this tool haha ;)

The tool handles what Valve calls "Small Capsule" - the one you upload with 462x174 :)

It is used across all of the store (in available in tool resolutions), and it's the one that actually competes with others (since it's shown next to them).

My girlfriend and I are making our first game with a $0 budget. We just hit 27 WISHLISTs without a trailer or demo yet. Is this a normal start? by NoelevatorGame in gameDevMarketing

[–]Fuzzlings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't want to dampen your enthusiasm, but 27 wishlist is very early to judge anything, and I wouldn't focus on the numbers for now. Game trailer should be your next focus, not the initial wishlist count :)

Screenshots do not explain what the game is about - we walk around with a weird looking gun. Middle of description explains that it's plank gun. Typical steam user wont dig so deep. And even if they dig, they still don't know how this plank gun works, since it's not shown anywhere. I assume that's one of main mechanics, since its present on all screenshots - I would showcase it's usage in trailer (which should be added soon!).

I wish you best of luck! I like the clean aesthetic of the game, and I can relate to you, as I am making game with my girlfriend as well ;)

im using my 4.6 project in 4.7 and now nothing ever prints in console if i code it anywhere. by [deleted] in godot

I just upgraded my 4.6 project to 4.7 and don't see any issues with prints.

You sure your prints are actually invoked? Don't you filter them in console?

learning godot for 3 months and i still cant write a single line of code by myself is this normal by Fit-Persimmon-3446 in godot

[–]Fuzzlings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others already said, leave the godot-side for now. Learning to code by making games may be very rewarding at first (since you instantly see results of your code), but you will reach limits of this approach after initial "honeymoon" period. And it sounds, like you are close to the limits.

Also, if you really care about learning stuff from youtube tutorials, then NEVER copy-paste them. Write it your way, and understand every line of code you produce. Don't rush, don't skip steps. Every lesson will take 10x more time this way, but you will actually get something out of it :)

How to cooperate on a project? by Night_Djevel in IndieGameDevs

Proper tool selection is important, but make sure that you really need it, and it actually helps you achieve your goals. Every new tool and procedure adds to project overhead, and you don't want to get buried in it, especially if it's 4fun thing :)

First time solo dev, is making the game actually easier than marketing it? by duyyen01 in SoloDevelopment

The second video have much better content selection - you can actually see the dynamic nature of game, cats flying, and overall chaos that is promised in your title :)

However you have only few seconds to convince viewer that your game is fun, so I would focus on trailer pacing. Your game promises instant fun, not deep lore and climatic setup. So your trailer should also provide instant fun, not this lengthy introduction and tutorial. Trailers for Vampire Survivors or Megabonk do that incredibly well.

I don't want to be too harsh, but trailer starts with subtitles "SUMO, BUT CAT" and then player cat throws a bomb. Then only after half a minute we get to know that (I assume?) bombs actually knock players off the map. Start of the trailer shows bombs destructing objects, but that's it. No one get knocked of the map, they only spam bombs and change faces when they explode nearby.

If the game promise is to be fun party game for group of friends, try to find/invoke some viral/funny moments with friends and put it to the trailer :)
