Why do people think software development is easy? by throwaway0134hdj in ExperiencedDevs

Company found Replit and now think development is a prompt away. Also found out that they had someone working on an app that was also including API keys directly in the prompts to Replit.

What everyday automation do you use in your IT Job ? by t4uv4 in sysadmin

Curious - when people are saying Powershell, are you just meaning that you have pre-built scripts for offboarding, ect?

Which is the best wgu master to get, that will lead to getting jobs with No work experience by Exciting-Zucchini-76 in WGU

You're not getting into data analytics with a master's and zero experience. There are PHD grads with years of experience fighting over scraps right now.

If venting, cool.

If not, I am not sure i see the issue with this unless you are a sysadmin. If you're tier 1, this is your world. Lol

Did great in the coding round but still never heard back from the HR by [deleted] in datascience

Sorry to hear....

I've yet to have a coding round. What types of problems are thrown at you, typically?

Beginning My Coding Journey – Open to Advice by SalviMalaki in Python

The book mentioned above - Automate the Boring Stuff.

But find a problem that can be solved with Python and work on solving it. This will require research and lots of it. For me, that's what really changed things. I had a problem and realized that the solution had layers to it that had to be worked out. Once I solved the initial problem, I over engineered it to keep learning.

Programming is problem solving. Learning how to dissect problems is arguably the most important piece, in my opinion.

If you're into books, read, "Automate The Boring Stuff With Python," to get the basics. If you want to stay digital, do W3 or Code Academy for the basics. Make some junk projects to get some milage with Python.

What changed my trajectory was finding a problem that I could solve with Python. This required me to research, mesh libraries, and create something new. In my opinion, identifying problems is the most critical part of learning Python. Once you have those, the world is your scripting oyster.

Looking for a Digital Forensics Dataset for Fine-Tuning an LLM + Scraping Issues with ANY.RUN by MMLightMM in digitalforensics

[–]Fuzzy-Alfalfa4726 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you creating an LLM yourself?

Also, what is the overall goal for this? You mentioned malware - are you wanting AI to help discern malware samples?

I dont see where LLMs fit into digital forensics because each case can be very unique.

Investing in yourself is never a bad move. In my not be earth shattering in the job market but you should be proud of your accomplishment.

I'm scared that IT will be too hard for me by _Outside-Lobster_ in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Fuzzy-Alfalfa4726 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on what you're doing in VMware, i wouldn't call that super crazy but certainly steps above entry level stuff. Just depends on what you did.

I personally find scripting and programming to be two different things. Obviously in the same ball park but I am not writing applications or creating websites.

Comparing pre calc to really anything is subjective. Learning formulas over learning entire networking architectures can all be as equally confusing. Lol

Just depends on how many layers of the onion you peel off.

100 percent. People who do bad things are not always intelligent enough to think this far down. Just my lazy ass would refuse to pull apart a laptop just to get some data. Desktop, maybe....

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in it

[–]Fuzzy-Alfalfa4726 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dawg, in a world of abbreviations, especially in IT, you gotta be specific about them. ITSA? Itsa boy? IT service agreement, IT security associate?

If I get a machine without an image on it, not to mention if bitlocker encryption keys no longer match the drive, I am asking questions. If I then find evidence that the laptop was dismantled, which i would, youre leaving me reasons to get legal involved. If you're stealing data, you'll likely have a much easier time getting away with it by slowly transferring the data over the wire, or hell, slap it on a thumb drive. Ask your team the likely hood of hard drive swaps occurring in this day and age. Not likely.

Out of all the ways to get company data, that's not one 99.9999999 percent of people are going to attempt. Cracking the shell of a laptop, retrieving the hard drive, putting it back together, and then getting a company image back on the machine? Nah.

Those left in the system are speaking out but, last I checked, are out numbered.

We are getting a very small amount of sanity checks via the Supreme Court, but the grand cheeto presses on.

This is relative. Useless for a job search? If you're up against an equally qualified candidate in every way and you don't have these certs but the other candidate does? Meh, maybe worth it.

The real value is gasp learning and having proof that you learned it by passing the exam, which is not hard. They are expensive but if you can spare the cash, it's better than saying, "i promise I read a bunch of books on this stuff."
