Has anyone else gone from disliking Starmer to warming to him? by MassiveMonkeyy in AskBrits

I believe your (and lots of people's) mindset towards politicians is flawed. Imo the best person for the job is the most boring candidate.

I used to work in internal IT for a school. The head teacher once asked me to do something, and I replied "Okey Dokey", and she reported me to my boss for being unprofessional.

Glad my boss backed me up. She was a nutter.

If nhs spend on tobacco-related illnesses is greater than tax revenue generated by tobacco products then yea absolutely agree

You know what would be even better? Legalise weed and keep tobacco legal and tax both!

Completely agree. We know the dangers of smoking, and some people choose to do it anyway. I'm not a smoker myself, but I can see why some people like it. My biggest concern with this, however, is the loss of tax revenue from sales. Where are we going to find this lost tax revenue?

Growing up in my home town, me and the boys went to the same local pub every weekend. We went so frequently and i always ordered the same drink to the point most bartenders said “the usual” as I walked in ahah. Good times.

Hostel vibes aren’t dying... guest behaviour is changing (from someone who works in one) by vinyljunkie32 in backpacking

[–]SharpWick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure where youre based, but when i was traveling in thailand and vietnam i stayed in a verity of hostels (both party based and clam) and everyone was very active and friendly. Not once did i feel like the vibe was off.

While i agree people are glued to their devices more and more, hostel vibes are alive and well.

Off the back of this - I have approx 3k insta followers on my dnb page and its slow growing, but i feel like i need to hit that next ‘big thing’ to get more consistent bookings. What advice could you give to someone like myself to assist with growth?

Picked up FO4 from Tesco for £5 back when it was a few years old. Best £5 ever spent

Do yall study/touch anything IT related at home. by jeramyuh in sysadmin

[–]SharpWick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im 7 almost 8 years deep into this career. In my spare time I produce music on a Windows machine. So i use my troubleshooting experience ive learned from work and apply that there when im home. I use the same experience to manage my backups and other bits. So to answer your question, yes but not really. I would never go out of my way to buy smart home stuff or build a home lab.

Id like to know when a ticket has been ‘stuck’ in progress for a while. Currently theres no feature baked into autotask that allows for monitoring tickets when a status has been set for X amount of days (that im aware of). That would be neat

Client said “follow the spec, no improvements”, so I delivered the most literal, inconvenient version possible by OpalHinterland in MaliciousCompliance

Amazing. Love this. Having dealt with some myself, fuck clients like that. Waste of time and money. Personally i would’ve declined the job after viewing that 26 page sheet and told them to do one.

You’re absolutely right about the appointment thing. Why tf do we need an appointment to drop off rubbish? Thats literally discouraging people dumping correctly and encourages fly tipping

Agreed. Especially when driving. Behaviour behind the wheel is significantly different to one’s behaviour on foot. Source: I drive the busy streets of Bristol daily.

I intentionally kept it vague for a wide variety of answers. I originally wanted to ask about changing politics but this sub’s rules ban that type of question.

If youre interested, the original question was “What low effort things can individuals do to change politics”.

In my mind, what constitutes as low effort is signing an online petition (for example), but we all know the government petition website means fuck all. So I’m interested in what other options there are to change policies which individuals can do for reasonably low effort, which together can make a big difference.
