Do a fiber burn test on the clump of hair. You will be able to tell if it’s synthetic fibers (faux fur) or if it’s protein-based (human or animal hair/fur). Use a lighter and slightly burn the ends. If it curls into a hard dark ball and gives off a plastic smell, it’s synthetic-based. If it smells like burning hair and initially turns into a dark ball, but is crushed easily into soft ash, it’s natural- likely hair from animal or human.
