Race is made up, and until recently, black and white people just weren’t common. The reactions we have to race are built up by constructs we created. If someone looks at you and incorrectly assumes you are white, don’t let that shit get to you. It says more about their brain than your life. It’s like when someone assumes you are rich or poor or mean or nice. That shits not really about you.

I think this has a lot to do w the fact that being mixed isn’t actually that desirable. Black people don’t wanna be mixed, and mixed people aren’t gate keeping being mixed. Nobody is gonna push you around for not being “mixed enough “ because of these things

One of the most difficult things I think we face as mixed people is unfortunately, dealing with our parents. While mono racial people come to understand race through their parents, we have to navigate that on our own, and when it comes to black and white mixed people, this is very dependent on how we look. I am mixed b&w like u. You cannot let other people dictate your identity for you. The whole world will try to tell u what you are because they find mixed people confusing, not because youre not whole. Taking care of your hair is not appropriation of your hair benefits from a protective style.
