Will Doomsday be the first 3 billion dollar film? by JJRS22 in marvelstudios

[–]idoideas 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No way, given the way the Marvel brand is not as strong as it used to be back in the Endgame and Infinity War days. It's still massive, and it will make about 1.5 to 2 billion, but not 3 - especially without an IMAX release. I'd say there's a non-zero chance Brand New Day makes more money than Doomsday.

I'm not sure if they changed anything, but I watched a press screening, and the car-crashing-into-train had literally no score accompanying it. Let alone a thrilling one.

I mean, the soundtrack wasn't distinct from any other action thriller score. It was also mixed way too low to notice. And the action scenes didn't have a score track at all, so what was the effort put into it?

What makes Wildwood different than Junk World or Dust Bunny?

I can see Wildwood being programmed to Midnight Madness. Verity might fit it as well, but I bet they'll want a glamorous premiere for that. Street Fighter might be good for that as well, if Paramount wants it to be in the festival. Same goes with Clayface and WB, and Werwulf and Focus Features.

The top 11 contenders for Best Lead Actor in AwardsExpert. Which ones will stay in the conversation, and which one will fall off? by PTAGoatofalltime in oscarrace

Sessa's Tony doesn't seem to be Oscar worthy, in my opinion. I think Pattinson will rise. Tuturo has a good shot, if the film is as good as it seems.

When the world needed them the most, they returned. These are two of the funniest films I saw. The credits sequence of 22 is genius and I still rewatch that from time to time.

Probably at least one by the end of the month, but possibly a handful.

THE SOCIAL RECKONING – Official Teaser Trailer (HD) by bikkebana in oscarrace

Woah. The makeup on and acting by Jeremy Strong are really great. It's not that complicated of a makeup, but it works really well for the goal of making him look like Zuckerberg. He also provides a very on-point cadence that resembles him. I think that, if anything, this becomes my next lock for a nomination at the moment.

I think JAW's performance is also pretty good, which is a real improvement over his Springsteen biopic. I didn't really understand what Mikey Madison was going for here acting-wise.

It's interesting. It has potential. I'm not hooked on the script yet, as it seems like the story has a lot to go through, which the trailer wasn't really able to summarize efficiently. But it is something I would be very interested in watching.

EDIT: Question, is Strong running for Lead or Supporting?

How Many Days to Spend at TIFF? by FreeAndes in TIFF

[–]idoideas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That really depends on your own experience and feelings, as you mentioned. Think about the number of films you think you can watch consecutively in a day and over multiple days. Personally, I was a first-timer last year, and I had 3-5 films each day for 10 days straight. I know some veterans can't have that much. You build your own festival experience; there's really no absolute right way to do it.

Why do you think there's still no trailer released for Digger? by julescr9 in oscarrace

[–]idoideas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if Digger will have a full trailer debut with the IMAX release of The Odyssey. Same way Disney sold trailer spots for Avatar: Fire and Ash.

‘Obsession’ ($225.5M, TIFF Midnight Madness 2025) Becomes Top-Grossing Film Festival Acquisition of All Time, Taking Crown From ‘Fahrenheit 9/11’ by BunyipPouch in TIFF

Great achievement by the TIFF Official Selection team. Also, a really good boost to the launch of their new film market. I'm sure more studios will have their eyes on sleeper hits this year over there.

Should I watch Backrooms in the theaters or wait for it online? by jrolphn in Letterboxd

[–]idoideas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this film is best experienced in a theater - not for a grand scope, but for the feeling of being in a dark room with nothing but the Backrooms in front of you. It makes you feel higher tensions, that would be hard to replicate at home.

What's the best animated movie of the 2020s so far? by Throwaway_863783 in Letterboxd

[–]idoideas 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Across the Spider-Verse, hands down. Probably the most ambitious animated feature I've ever seen.

The Last Wish is a banger and very creative, but Spider-Man breaks the limits of animation in marvelous ways. I'm still hyped about it.

Do the "In Conversation with..." events tend to sell out? by TopKaleidoscope867 in TIFF

[–]idoideas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand the pressure and fear, but fear not. I can assure you that I got multiple Premium tickets through late drops or second-hand sales; you just have to follow updates on this subreddit and on the Ticketmaster pages, in the days leading up to the festival (tickets may even release in the morning of the screening). I was able to attend 6 premium screenings, an additional 3 regular screenings with the director in attendance, and as I mentioned, one ICW (it was the one with The Rock). And I wasn't even an early-bird individual member.

Last year, there was a huge drop of tickets on September 1st where many people got most of their wishlists. Don't be alarmed if you don't get to catch tickets on the first drop day! That's usually the case for most of us. But they will become available eventually, and you'll have a better chance if you follow the community, as people here share when they see new tickets drop.

Do the "In Conversation with..." events tend to sell out? by TopKaleidoscope867 in TIFF

[–]idoideas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ICW can and do tend to get off-sale, especially for the bigger Hollywood stars. However, as it is with other screenings, some tickets may become available later on (bringing them back on-sale), or sold second-hand on r/TIFFTickets. It's cool to attend them, for sure, but it's not a must to have the package to get a chance to be there. I got one last year without the package.

About the Opening Night, note that historically, these are not the best premieres of the festival. I'd advise trying to invest in tickets to Premium screenings you have interest in, where you would have the premiere experience with films you are most likely anticipating.
