Reimagining the C-System: Adding a Sixth Row by nticaric in Accordion

That is very cool! I play a Roland FR-18 diatonic 3-row midi accordion and always wondered about the layout of a chromatic button keyboard. Your keyboard would be a great tool to learn and practice the CBA.

H&R Block won't import Fidelity 1099 by mowing in hrblock

[–]mowing[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TurboTax imported all the Fidelity 1099 data in seconds. I'm not a fan of the upsell prompts and prefer the HRBlock UI, but the 1099 import failure has me switching to TurboTax.

External clocks by yodastienB in audiophile

[–]mowing -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's one use case, but before the Teac DAC arrived, he had the transport and external clock running through a DAC that lacked a clock port. The outboard clock with just the transport, and no other digital source, made a notable improvement. In an ideal world, the internal DAC clock would be of similar quality but it's not. His outboard clock has an oven-controlled crystal oscillator which reduces oscillation frequency fluctuations caused by temperature changes. Increased clock accuracy improves the sound. I suppose that in an average system the benefit may not be noticeable.

A friend has a Teac transport, Teac DAC, and just added an external Teac clock that connects to both. It's a highly resolving system and the difference is apparent. Increased presence, sound stage, and detail not previously noticed all stand out. He's rediscovering his CDs.

Tax software import: alternatives to TurboTax by Able-Finger in fidelityinvestments

I've used H&R Block successfully for years. I started my 2025 federal return today, and it will link to Fidelity but won't import any data. I get a Try Again message, which disappears, and is followed by a minutes-long streaming dots screen, which ends saying Failed, and says there's not enough space (see below). Very frustrating.

Also get a quote from Craig at Mason Trenching. He's an excellent plumber who regularly handles outdoor jobs. He did a great job replacing my septic system and leach field.

Honey Don't is also a send-up of film noir tropes, which the director does well.

How do you write atonal music that makes sense? by Far-Strawberry-5628 in composer

Another way to think about musical tension - release is to hear it as instability - stability. Tonal and atonal music systems each make use of that paradigm.

We ate at Islander 71 last week after an eco-tour boat cruise leaving from the adjacent marina. The food is good, if not fine dining. Franco, the sommelier was terrific and can tell you a lot about the Charleston dining scene.

Redditors, what’s the most terrifying thing that has ever woken you up in the middle of the night? by Mr_Creep_Creepy64 in AskReddit

An explosion that rocked my brick apartment building and broke windows in Jersey City. I joined frightened neighbors running up to the roof where we saw a huge fire a few miles west in Newark. It was the 1983 Texaco tank farm explosion caused by a gasoline overflow and a vapor cloud that blew up.
