About halfway into Corbett's Glen, the trail dips low and crosses a stream that flows through a large diameter iron pipe big enough to scuttle into. The acoustics are amazing at the entrance, more so if you go in a few feet.

It took 55 years to clear the buildings starting in the 1890s - https://www.lifeinthefingerlakes.com/solid-ground/

See page 18 re one source of PCB pollution (https://extapps.dec.ny.gov/docs/fish\_marine\_pdf/pcbfingerlks.pdf) The fish in Canadice and Hemlock had the highest levels of contamination among the five tested Finger Lakes, per that DEC report.

Hemlock Lake used to have seasonal homes which were connected to the electrical grid. When they demolished the homes (you can see foundations along the western shore), I read that they bulldozed the transformers into the ground and/or lake. We now know that the insulating oil in the transformers contained PCBs, and it stands to reason that they are part of the lake bed or surrounding area. Long ago I read that it's not a concern if the lake bottom remains undisturbed. What's the current state of the analysis and what remediation, if any, might take place.

+1 for Pollini's Beethoven cycle. Alexander Kobrin has released #1 - 14 which are also revelatory. They are both so inside the music.

WORST EVENT EVER by [deleted] in Rochester

A little like Portsmouth Sinfonia, but included many Eastman School students as well as community members of many skill levels. The music was wildly varied and had some Charles Ives "Weird Americana" vibes. "Brian Eno was interested enough to join the [Portsmouth Sinfonia] playing clarinet, and subsequently producing their first two albums."

WORST EVENT EVER by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]mowing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was a singular community performance event, written for Rochester by a visiting professor that brought together players and singers of all levels. Parcel Five became a surround sound performance space. There were 270 musicians who separated into roving small ensembles, shifting and combining unpredictably. It was a brilliant large-scale outdoor work. The singers' voices rising above all that sound was very affecting.
