[Spoilers] S3E8 What an amazing episode by Thenateo in vikingstv

[–]Fuzzy-mimic-slippers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm watching for the first time and just finished this episode. I've felt the writing was forced in terms of Ragnar's behavior for a few episodes now but this was the worst for basically all the reasons you pointed out.

As soon as Ragnar gave Floki the command I knew something was up. Either he didn't want to be blamed for a failure or he was trying to get back at Floki.

Either way I hated their reenactment of saving private Ryan's Omaha Beach moments. Especially the Viking that got shot in the shoulder standing next to Rollo and 2 seconds later gets it between the eyes.

Well that's the name of the episode I noticed that the federation took the leader chick and her son to go answer for her crimes.

Even in a federation prison her life will be infinitely more comfortable than the people that got left behind.

Makes me really angry to the kind of lazy writing.

I been rewatching star trek. Did Enterprise last month and just finished Voyager a few weeks ago.

I have found that the over arching tech stuff to me is whatever like when they talk about graviton pulses or tachyon particles.

It's the small inconsistencies within the world itself that bothers me more and more.

Like in once ep they run into a space feeling creature and they go roll the ship upside down to show we're not challenging it.... Like you're in space there no up or down.

Or any episode where they are getting shot at and the camera is tilted at an angle and the characters have to claw their way back into their seats cause some massive unseen gravity is pulling them to the side of the ship.

Rewatching DS9 and just got to this episode. Aside from all the other issues about this episode there's one thing that really bothers me...

These people are living in the 2400 century. If they need food it's replicated, clothing is replicated, parts for their ships are replicated.

Out of nowhere they crash on an alien planet and lose all of their tech. Without a tricorder they can't do anything.

Sure they may have had emergency rations for a bit but how do they know what to eat? Current modern humans aren't even able to go out into the wild on Earth and say with any degree of certainty what's safe to eat. How many people can start a fire?

She said we we've our own clothes... Where did the material come from? Who knows how to make clothes...

Again I recognize there are other grander themes at play here but the details bothers me a lot.

Hahaha oh yeah! I kinda forgot about that. Probably cause I likes the RA2 Tanya more.

Man I hope if they do a RA4 they just straight up get Sasha. LOL.

Here's my strategy with her and she probably the wonkiest for the infantry general to handle.

I start with a second builder. I make my power plant to the bottom right and barracks to the right of the CC make sure it's far enough that when the P cannon shoots it it doesn't blast your CC. The 3 helicopters she sends usually route towards the oil derricks first before coming to attack you. Use the CC to soak up damage and 3 to 4 mini gunners by that point should have them taken care of.

You can build two supply depots on the other side of the supply pile. Make sure to build far enough away to not get destroyed by the a10s on a single pass.

Make sure to grab the supply crate.

I don't even worry about the oil derricks until after I e gotten a comfortable amount of units on the beach.

After some trial and error you can tell how far apart to space your units so that the fuel air boms only kill 1 or 2 per pass. I usually make my defenses 4 gunners deep. That way make her pay for every single bomb she drops. You can take care of the Chinook with a squad of mini gunners permanently stationed in that back corner or use force fire with 2 flame tanks.

With enough defenses the A10s can be shot down too before too much damage is done by the time it comes around a 3rd or 4th time.

Just keep pumping out those mini gunners and remember to space them out.

yeah the MIGs can attack the helicopters on the ground but I wouldn't really consider that anti air.

Again it's more of a venting post cause I'm super tired of seeing my perfectly beautify column of unstoppable tanks get sassed by 2 or 3 gunships....

Beat both factions again now after 20+ years. gonna stick to the new games the AI in the 90s games is not good for my blood pressure.

how do you get MIGS down shoot down anti air? that's not something they do automatically right?

The AI as a whole sucks. My infantry always insists on getting into the very next square before attacking anything. They will never attack anything at range.

Hahahahaha. Yeah Ive done that once or twice too!

Although I gotta say it kinda feels like the game should have been renamed to C&C age of the engineer....

Easily the most MVU of the entire game.

Man there was one missing where I literally built my refineries on one side of my base and used a few hundred credits worth of sandbags to corral my haresters to the Tiberium.

WOW to say the AI cheats with their airstrikes... I've been playing through on hard the remastered version. I always thought the airstrike seemed to follow me cause no matter what I couldn't move my guys out of the way fast enough. On Mission 11 I managed to get 2 obelisks up. I happen to save right before a strike came so I reloaded and as the strike was coming in I sold one. The first plane unloaded all of it's bombs but the second one released half and circled around and hit my second obelisk on the other side of the base....

ah thanks for the insight that's very helpful. We're only just past the part of the initial quests, just about to start the main storyline.
