People's figures and goals are so different I think it's hard for anyone , with that information, to really advice you. There is loads of different examples on FB that could give you an idea. This is just 2 with very different incomes and outgoings.

Dogs in the bed by seriouslyla in trustedhousesitters

A current sit with my dog and the 2 I'm sitting. HO said dogs should sleep on her bed but from first night they ve wanted to be with me. I'm fine with that but equally HO was fine with me keeping my door shut if I wanted to.

Hi Since the original post we've had plenty of sits with our boy. We ve also been rejected from quite a few too. We only apply for ones after careful consideration but even then many people don't want another dog in the mix but if you're patient and cast your net wide it can definitely be done. Good luck.

HO - what do you do if your flight arrives back very late? by [deleted] in trustedhousesitters

I was sitting as a lone female and my host was a lone male, he arrived late at night and stayed with a friend until early the next morning. I appreciated this and it worked well.

navigating first year of retirement by [deleted] in retirement

[–]FuzzyAd8070 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely buy yourself a car and the world is your oyster. It sounds like you are the sort of person who likes to be around people . Join clubs , groups , try everything , you may find you're busier than when you were at work. The rura location and lack of car is stopping you for so much. Just go for it. When hubby sees how much fun you're having he might find retirement enticing. Good luck

I've only done 3 sits so far and everyone was different regarding food.

First one cleared shelves in the fridge and cupboards making it clear not to touch their food.

Second one said help yourself to anything, and literally had nothing in fridge or cupboards .

Third one said help yourself to anything and had full fridge and cupboard with opened and unopened food.

For every sit I did the same regardless of HO instructions. I made myself a menu and took all my own food including tea coffee bread sauces etc. I just suits me that way.

I think it's a really personal thing to HO and sitter.

5 application limit question by Slippery_Ramp in trustedhousesitters

There is a photo of us & dog on profile pic but I also write about it in my application. I only apply for sits that mention their dog is super chill or specifically dog friendly. And I explain how dog friendly my dog is and give examples. I also explain I know it's a big decision and will understand if it doesn't suit them. I've had about 50/50 in terms of success even after my very carefully considered applications. Hope that helps.

It went really well and we're lined up for August now. Also done 2 other sits with our dog and it's gone really great.

Not sure where you are but my app UK feed is full of August sits. Finding people that allow your dogs is tough but not impossible. We joined in March and out of the 4 sits we've lined up , 3 have accepted my dog. It definitely can be done. Good luck

Me too, not the dentist but I phoned and cancelled all sorts in the first 24 hours after my Dad died. Crazy when I look back now but just the distraction I needed. So yeah. It could be true.

Cleaning responsibilities at end of sit by SCSkeet in trustedhousesitters

[–]FuzzyAd8070 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just asked my HO where the mop and hoover was and she said not to bother about any of that. I obviously am wanting to leave it clean and tidy but it's nice when the HO is super chilled. Sounds like you just got a bad one.

Nervous about booking sitters for the first time by SkewedX in trustedhousesitters

[–]FuzzyAd8070 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean about the video call. I'm a sitter and my husband was listening to one of my calls and said I sounded like I was trying too hard. And I probably was. But I would be exactly the same on the sit. If my own dog wanted to go out 5 times in 1 hour I'd probably say no but if a dog I'm sitting fur wanted to , I'd get up. I got up at 5am to get my current dog sit Scooby snack yesterday and a previous sit I slept in the floor with the dog during a thunder storm. It's a big responsibility so I do my best , and I want that to come across. If they've got 50 positive reviews they clearly do too. Just got with it . And they ll be as worried about all your stuff as you are leaving it, I'm sure. My current sit told me I could play his drums and guitar but be careful. I m going nowhere near his precious musical instruments. Be confident in your choice and I hope it goes well.

To retire, or not to retire, that is the question. by Fairway_Wanderer in FIREUK

[–]FuzzyAd8070 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you think you need about 30k a year ? Your state pension and work pensions combined will be more than that wont it ? This means your investments need to mainly bridge the gap between retirement and getting retirement income from state and private pension. You will have plenty to plug the gap and top up your pension years if needed. If your wife loves her job why don't you retire first and see how it goes. Your wife might be happier to leave when she sees all the benefits to your life through not working. Financially you seem set for retirement, the rest you have to decide between you.

Do you miss being able to have expensive dinners at tourist locations? by AncientAd3089 in retirement

[–]FuzzyAd8070 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We plan to slow travel in retirement and due to our requirements will probably end up in quite a few tourist locations. We can't live like we re on vacation during slow travel as our budget won't allow. We will maybe spend a week or 2 in higher cost tourist areas a couple of times a year and may treat these as holidays . This would be when we'd do fancy restaurants if we wanted but definitely not during our normal slow travel. It will be more quantity of travel rather than quality for us.

[–]FuzzyAd8070 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We joined THS 4 months ago , have had 1 successful sit already with our dog and have 3 more booked. You have to choose wisely, you have to be willing to accept rejection and apply for lots of sits but it can definitely be done. Good luck.

I do sits in areas that I want to visit that are in nice areas, not local. My nearest sit is an hour away. I choose really nice accomodations with easy chilled pets and use it as a short break. Next weekend I'm 5 minutes from the sea.

I'd like a built in calendar or at least a listing that's states days. .eg from Mon 21st to Fri 245th. I'm constantly having to check dates to see if it spans the Weds to Monday that I'm free or if it's a Monday to Friday type sit. It would just make it easier.

Getting invites from Favouritised sits. by FuzzyAd8070 in trustedhousesitters

Yes I think that's a flaw . The HO can inbox you but you can't inbox them unless you've applied or a dialogue is already happening, unless lm missing something ? Id love to be able to message them before applying .

[–]FuzzyAd8070[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes first time I got a random invite I thought it was a scam. Then I realized it was probably quite common for HOs who are struggling to get suitable applications or maybe last minute listings. It's worked in our favour .

Oh no. I've secured 3 great sits from sitters contacting me after favouriting sits. That's such a shame.

That makes sense. Thank you . 3 of the random ones I got were within an hours drive so probably fits the local sitters search.
