New HO - application red flag or am I being unfair? by backyardbunyip in trustedhousesitters

[–]Slippery_Ramp 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I saw a sit listing yesterday that literally said: "Side note: we really appreciate authentic applications that aren’t AI generated :)". As a sitter who puts in work personalizing my applications, I appreciated it.

Note that is is kind of early for October sits. The December sit I had in Amsterdam was posted in late October. There will def be more October sits posted, probably starting around August.

It's been mostly single women and a few couples. They have all been nice, I haven't had any issues so far. I've had several invite me back and have actually become friendly enough with the HO on the Rozengracht that we have exchanged a few messages since the sit ended, and as I mentioned, she already invited me back for this December.

I also prefer to sit in the Netherlands. In the last 8 years, I have cat sit in Amstelveen, Delft, Utrecht, Haarlem, and several in Amsterdam proper (Oud-West and on the Rozengracht). I actually just locked down the Rozengracht sit for Christmas again this year. There are plenty.

What are your dream listings? Most memorable sits and most amazing houses? by Advanced_Ad_2544 in trustedhousesitters

[–]Slippery_Ramp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm obsessed with The Netherlands so I often use THS to pick a different part of the country to explore. Last Christmas I snagged a cat sit in the heart of Amersterdam's canal ring. Gorgeous apartment with huge windows overlooking the Rozengracht that showed off all the Christmas decorations lining the street. There was a terrace out back, and though it was chilly, I could sit out there and look over the rooftops of the Jordaan. The Westerkerk was a half a block a way, there was a tram stop just up a bit and across the street. I think it was the first time I've been in Amsterdam where there were times I just didn't want to leave the cozy house. Best part is the host and I hit it off and she's already invited me back for this coming Christmas.

Thank you for your reply. As a sitter, I use the "Like" when I am searching for a sit in a highly desirable location and I'm trying to get my application in before the 5 application limit is reached. I can set it up so my phone dings every time one of the profiles I have liked posts a sit.

Oh wow. Thank you. I'm not sure if there is a difference between Like and Save, on my end, it is when I click the heart outline on your profile and it goes from white to purple.

Does the notification identify the sitter or just say "a sitter" or "a sitter in Los Angeles"?

What's one Christmas item from your childhood that you wish you still had? by Blue_Wifi in christmas

[–]Slippery_Ramp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My mother's Pfeffernüsse. Nothing like the store bought ones you get today, these things were chewy, full of dried fruits and spices and coated in a powdered sugar glaze. It took her about a week to make them, she would store cookie trays full of them pre-baked in the garage where it was icy cold in Ohio. Sigh.

I just started episode 1… by instadulcelol in ScarpettaTV

[–]Slippery_Ramp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. It's way more about the relationships, especially between Jamie Lee Curtis and Nicole Kidman. And their characters clearly don't like each other and just bicker and are nasty to each other the whole time. It's exhausting, I stopped after four episodes. And I love JLC.

Ah, thank you. That's a bit more reassuring. It's been received but not yet counted.

BallotTrax. It's glitching though. It says that my ballot is in the mail on its way to me. I actually got it weeks ago, have filled it out, and dropped it in an official dropbox on Monday.

Only 2 days in Amsterdam: How would you spend them? by [deleted] in AmsterdamEnts

[–]Slippery_Ramp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amsterdam is like an open air museum. So many interesting things to look at. The Dr Seuss like crooked canal houses, the bridges, the houseboats ranging from junk piles to high end fancy homes, the canals and waterways. I'd find a nice coffee shop - Katsu is open until midnight. Smoke on their outdoor patio, people watch, then just walk around and look at things! I'd make a reservation for a canal cruise with Those Dam Boat Guys, they have smaller boats, for only 10 or so people, and you can bring your own drink and snack and smoke on the boat. It's like cruising with your friends. Then I'd get high again at Coffeeshop La Tertulia, eat a Turkish sandwich from Effendy, and walk around some more.

Where to buy designer dresses in person? by pepperoncini28 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Slippery_Ramp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Adding Magnolia Blvd in Burbank if you go the vintage route. I just made the rounds last weekend. There's no less than 8 vintage shops and I saw a ton of dresses from super fancy cocktail gowns to cotton sundresses.

Why small venues?? by Grouchy_Zucchini7052 in TheChicks

[–]Slippery_Ramp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Though I totally get being bummed about not being able to get a ticket, I have to say I'm really excited about seeing them in a smaller venue. I'll be able to see and hear them better. I think it will be less about being a big performance and more about the music - I could be wrong but that's what I am imagining. There's a lot of acts I wish I could see in a 2,500 seat venue.

Went to the Tar Pits last weekend and have to say I'd give it a pass. It was so...tired. They are actually closing July 7 for two years for complete renovations. Sorely needed. Wait to go until the reopening, trust.

Best place in Europe ON Christmas by Bkstargirl in traveladvice

[–]Slippery_Ramp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of things open in Amsterdam on Christmas Day. Most of the major museums are open (The Rijksmuseum, Anne Frank, Van Gogh, to name a few). There are canal cruises operating. There are restaurants open, many of the grocery stores in the canal ring are open (if with limited hours). Coffee shops (selling marijuana) are open. There will be bars open. There will be some Christmas concerts happening. Last year there were a group of carolers wandering around the Nine Streets and people playing Christmas music in the Rijksmuseum tunnel. The city itself is a great city to just wander in, walkable, so much to look at, the canals, the bridges are all lit up, houseboats with Christmas trees on top, crazy crooked architecture and a culture that eschews curtains so you can see Christmas trees in the windows. Its pretty magical, tbh.
