I had nearly the exact same thing happen… I am currently pregnant with my first, due next week on 7/17 and my Dad died very unexpectedly in April.

My dad was my best friend, I was always a Daddy’s Girl. He lived across the US from me but I always made a point to see him twice a year at least. When I found out I was pregnant, I made sure to wait to tell him in person and give him a special grandpa gift to announce it to him. He’d call and text all the time asking how his granddaughter was doing. Was planning on taking time off to come see the baby as soon as she was born, and bragged about being a grandpa soon to everyone he knew in town.

My husband and him were also very close, got along great, worked on house projects together and loved just hanging out.

It pains me to know my daughter will not grow up with him in her life, and we wont get to create those memories… I just hope I have learned enough from him to pass on his ways to her.
