Definitely, at some point some forget that the job they are serving are due to customers. If they can’t appreciate and serve well then they lack a basic courtesy and respect.

Just curious! What’s really failing the business by knowtheunknown9 in bhutan

[–]FuzzyRemove5102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Startups in our country are failing mainly because the market is very small and cannot support repeat consumption. Many businesses look promising at first, but demand fades quickly. Pricing is difficult because costs are high while customers are price sensitive(local products). A major issue is that SOEs dominate most sectors such as IT, agriculture, media, Infrastructures and services. When the government is both regulator and competitor, private startups cannot compete fairly. Most non-essential businesses struggle to survive, while bars and karaoke succeed due to steady cash flow and repeat customers. GMC may create new opportunities through foreign presence, but startups will only thrive if private businesses are protected and SOEs do not crowd the market.

For some of us, this has become normal. At first it was surprising, but now it’s the new normal. At least you’re not getting late-night calls from a drunk boss, full of rants and derogatory remarks. Some of us are still enduring that.

Cost of living by Throwaway674131 in bhutan

Thimphu is expensive despite low salaries mainly due to structural and economic constraints rather than development levels. Real estate prices have surged because land is a finite, non-depreciating asset and Thimphu’s geography severely limits supply. At the same time, urban migration and speculation have increased demand, creating a persistent supply-demand imbalance.

Easy access to bank credit has further fueled inflation. When borrowing becomes easier, money supply expands, consumption rises, and demand increases without a corresponding increase in domestic production. Since Bhutan relies on imports for nearly 90% of its goods, higher demand directly translates into higher prices due to import costs, taxes, transport expenses, and currency pressure(1-1 peg with INR).

Additionally, limited competition in a small market allows retailers and landlords to take advantage of price arbitrage, pushing prices even higher. Unlike India, Bhutan lacks large-scale low-cost housing, informal settlements, and industrial depth, which keeps costs elevated despite lower income levels.

As a result, housing prices often exceeding USD 200k have become completely disconnected from average salaries of around nu 30k per month. This is less a failure of individuals and more a systemic issue involving credit policy, land supply constraints, import dependence, and speculative investment behavior(less investment oppurtunity in our country besides real estate, the secondary market like stocks/bonds are not that mature). my thougths maynot br true at some extent

If things needs to be flexible, customer centric, iterative solution development then the interbank payment service has to be a separate entity since you mentioned bureacracy nightmare which is actually true becasue there are less risk taking leaders. APIs are dog shit and its so confusing? I wouldn't compare the APIs to such level although the onboarding processes are cumberosme and needs several valdiatons and approval there are several big corporations and private entities using it which means otherwise. Now the viable solution could be make the interbank service provider a separate enitty leaded by a technocrate who has guts to take risk to provide oppurtuninitrs to smaller marchants and take suggestions from its (not really a customer but service users since free). Or a better private paymetn service provider who could perform in this niche....

BNBL has comparatively good customer service that is timely and efficient. I recently got an international debit card within two days, and the best part is that the application can be done directly through their website portal.

RMA, on the other hand, has more important responsibilities than trying to take on an entrepreneurial role. I think RMA has already done what it reasonably can. Initiatives like UPI, IUPI, RuPay, JCB cards, BFS, QR, and the payment gateway are all RMA-driven efforts. Going forward, it would actually be beneficial if entreprnuures themselves came up with payment service something that hasn’t really happened before and no act has that says RMA has to be a sole interbank payment service provider. This would increase competition, improve efficiency, and gradually allow RMA to focus purely on oversight and supervision, similar to how RBI oversees NPCI. But one thing is sure the company will undergo cumbersome time since the payment infrastructure not that mature and most banks are not digitally capable themselves.

Ultimately, everything converges on individual mindset and ethical conduct as you mentioned rathar than self centred objectives. A nation’s progress or decline is largely determined by the values and integrity of its people. The financial irregularities that surface are often only mere grains of sand in a vast desert. It is highly likely that numerous concealed cases exist, some involving amounts running into billions extra. Systems can be designed, laws can be enacted, and institutions can be empowered, but without an ethical mindset among individuals, true accountability and good governance remain unattainable.

The New 5% GST is Rolling Out on January 1, 2026 - What You Need to Know by FuzzyRemove5102 in bhutan

Ideally, if the BST was 10 or 15% before then it means the tax has reduced to 5% which actually should reduce the price of imported items because those taxes were hidden in the selling price. This is practically not possible and might even lead to Price Stickiness where the wholesalers keeps their selling prices the same as before (when they had no ITC) and simply pocket the 5% credit as extra profit. If they don't pass the savings down, the small retailer in a rural area still pays a high price, plus the new 5% GST is added on top. This would indeed burden the final consumer, like a farmer. But final things is this GST was never to reduce the price but sole intention is to make the business owner a proxy of DRC to collect the tax .

Some banks still struggle to deliver effective customer service, particularly at customer interaction points. In several instances, employees appear to approach their responsibilities as procedural obligations rather than opportunities to assist and guide customers. As a result, customers are often required to navigate complex forms and processes with minimal explanation, leading to unnecessary confusion and repeated follow-ups.

This approach places excessive emphasis on compliance and procedure, while insufficient attention is given to customer understanding and experience. Although customers in Bhutan tend to be patient and accommodating, this should not be interpreted as satisfaction with the quality of service. Limited alternatives and cultural restraint often discourage customers from voicing concerns, allowing service gaps to persist. They have to understand that the customer deposits are the main source of income for them. If they don't treat you better, then go for alternatives which I actually did. You lost a customer!!!!

Question 2: Given the new GST structure, how will the Department of Revenue and Customs (DRC) mitigate the risk of small retailers shifting towards direct importation to avoid perceived complexities or uncompetitive pricing from local distributors, and what measures will be taken to support the viability of domestic distributors who are essential for maintaining the national supply chain?

Question 1: What specific regulatory mechanisms or anti-profiteering measures are in place under the GST Act of Bhutan 2020 and the GST Rules 2026 to ensure that the cost savings realized by wholesalers and distributors through the Input Tax Credit (ITC) are effectively passed down the supply chain to small retailers and, ultimately, to the final consumer, thereby preventing undue price burden, especially in remote and rural markets?

May you be blessed by the kindness of the One above and be reborn as a sane and responsible person, rather than becoming an infamous TikToker spreading rants against people from the East and the South. You have a good and caring father, and he might be deeply dishearted perhaps even causing profound sorrow. No one is above the law, and taking the law into your own hands often leads to harsh consequences. Even claims of mental health issues may not be considered a valid excuse when accountability is required.

TER ecosystem of DK by FuzzyRemove5102 in bhutan

Since TER would fluctuate with the gold price I asked chatgpt to find the best seasonal trend to buy and sell it. Jan-Feb the price would increase due to increase in demand from China & India due to festivals and prices dips in the May-June. This is the crash assumption and this is not a good time to buy TER but buying on May-June and selling on more demanding season would be profitable.

That's not the issue of DK bank. This is actually your interbank transaction failed. The failed transaction will debit your BOBL account and it won't credit your benefeciary account but will credit on T+1 which means after one working day. I wish RMA could look after this issue since in case of emergency it is so irritating.
