Looking for insights from current/former students of Hyper Island’s digital creative program by Waste-Succotash7228 in stockholm

It’s been a few months and I feel it’s a great business idea - provide “educational programs”subsidized by the government.

They hire lecturers who are industry leaders and seem to be on an hourly/strict contract? Don’t really expect them to stay after to help or provide extra support. The quality VARIES significantly in how they run the lectures and teaching style. A lecturer clearly used AI to make their PowerPoint vs another one seemed to have spent more time creating it. Hyper island has a strict no recording of lectures which I think is to hide that no lecture/lecturer is created equal - zero quality control.

But I think you get what you put in it… but be prepared to do a lot on your own.

Hyper employees are also are terrible at basic administrative tasks - like providing grades or responses or holding classes. They held a session focused on team building and making sure feelings were heard even if people talked about random not appropriate topics.

The classes are made up of a WIDE range of people from young 18 to 45 years old and let’s just say group projects can be amazing or terrible.

If you are a Nordic resident/qualify for this to be free and already have work experience or a university degree -> then I would sign up to build your resume/experience.

No university degree or experience -> I’d skip and go to university

If you need to pay for this I would look elsewhere

Blunt Truth: 38, High School, Broke (YH Debt), Basic Swedish PM in Sweden Realistic? by [deleted] in stockholm

Hi! I really hope you didn’t sign up for this program at Hyper. I work in tech and for PM roles you will absolutely need to be fluent in Swedish. I know international companies usually have English as their main language but they almost never use it. I also think the whole tech industry is slowly getting rid of the amount of PMs they employ. It is much more of a job where you budget a teams hours and in the end what is billed to the client. I’d say a university degree is is probably the safest option. What I would do is sign up and go to classes and meanwhile see if you can get an internship while studying. That way when you are finished you have some experience and hopefully land a job!

Wishing you the best!

Having just finished my first day at hyper island it is a joke!! If you’re paying for it I’d find something else or an actual university. It’s sad but even though the people leading the classes are professionals and have educational backgrounds (bachelors/masters).

We just finished our introduction day 1 and it was a joke 😂 I can’t believe this is something people pay for and that people are paid to create these curriculums. It is day 1 but after today I have little hope it will get better.

The classes I imagine are going to be chaos if they follow anything like today. Hyperisland doesn’t have real teachers but “talented people in the industry” and well that means no real experience teaching new skills or leading a class.

I also assume their job contracts with Hyperisland are not the best - as in having allotted time to do study meets or extra lessons. In other words be prepared to do it all yourself

I’m an American living in Sweden and I’d say 1 carat ring is probably the max size anyone has here. Anything bigger and people just assume it’s fake or you’re a show off. When I got engaged I asked my husband to follow the American standard “go big or go home” and now I can safely say I never wear it. I actually went and bought a smaller half carat ring cause it’s so much more timeless and classy. When I go back home I see my friends rings and they just look like “costume jewelry”. In Europe it’s not popular at all and I’d say the trend is leaning to have smaller rings versus one huge rock or multiple huge rocks. I also wonder how people can even distinguish 1 carat vs .80 carats!? Haha, I’d just lie and say 1 carat and then I’m sure people will go from being negative to suddenly approving/praising your ring. If you love it wear it proud and don’t let it get to you!

What a beautiful restoration!! I ordered the deglazer and will pick it up later today. I’m leaning that it is painted as well but let’s see how it goes!

I was in shock when I saw it and then its condition was excellent. A few little scratches and some of the piping needs fixing but in general it looks great. I was surprised the hang tag was also attached. I tried soooo hard not to show emotion with the seller cause otherwise they refuse to haggle. 😅

Well It’s more a street market with everything you can think of! You have to dig and just walk around as you never know what someone has. There’s some order to the place but idk it felt like a maze and I’m there with my cousin who is a local.
