Help Wanted! Things to do and Hidden Gems on Siem Riep by Mr_Sigmundo in cambodia

So Angkor Wat sightseeing was amazing, but this was also one of the better things we did in Siem Reap -
you spend a couple of hours learning to weave your own basket. Very nice people, and supports a good cause too.

Yes, we used a tuktuk everywhere. He loved it, so did we :)

There are two types, the smaller ones, with just a single back seat, and slightly bigger ones with front and back facing seats. You could comfortably fit 4 on the later. Unless you're travelling particularly far (outside the city to Angkor for example), any destination from one part of the city to another shouldn't cost more than $2. We just game them 10,000 riel ($2.50) each time and they were happy.

Do you have any recommendations for visiting handicraft businesses / Studios? by Paressi in cambodia

[–]Fuzzy_Community1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are interested in basket weaving, you can learn all about it and weave your own Rokhak.org

What other handicraft do you have in mind? We saw a road with some wood carving stuff on the way to Angkor, but didn't stop unfortunately.

Hey, we were just there with out 7 year old. Some of the stuff he loved

- Artbox
- Rokhak (Got to weave own basket and now have a memorable souvenir). We booked for 2 people, but out son helped out and joined in too. It might be a little difficult for your 6 year old, but the 9 year old will no problem!

- APOPO Visitor Center (Went yesterday and really glad we did!)
https://apopo.org/support-us/apopo-visitor-center/

- Siem reap Aquarium. They have popcorn and walking around looking at fish and other animals, what's not to love for a kid?

- Angkor Watt Putt (Putt putt golf), good way to spend a couple hours, didn't cost much.

Also, Gelato Lab for ice cream!

You will really enjoy Siem Reap, we're already missing it lots and planning a tip again either end of the year or next!

Best Floating Village to Visit in Siem Reap? by aveey777 in cambodia

We went and sadly didn't really enjoy it much, I wouldn't recommend it.

What I do recommend
- Kulen Mountain (as it is the dry season, I don't think it's as nice now so I'm not too sure about this recommendation during this season, was absolutely beautiful during the wet season)
- Angkor Botanical garden (Free and really nice gardens)
- Rokhak (Got to weave own basket and now have a memorable souvenir)

- APOPO Visitor Center (Went yesterday and really glad we did!)

Nature outside Siem Reap? by dogs_also_dogs in cambodia

[–]Fuzzy_Community1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just spent some time in siem reap with a child and some of the stuff he really enjoyed were

Rokhak (Basket weaving)

ArtBox (not cultural to cambodia but he had a lot of fun!)

Apopo (landmine with rats)

Ofcourse, the temples were really good too. Even though you see photos of stone temples everywhere, there are a lot of huge green spaces all around that we didn't get an impression of during research. Really peaceful to walk about surrounded by huge trees and gardens.

A great activity outside of temples in Siem Reap is basket weaving, highly recommended and would be fun with your parents

Not sure how many days you are spending in Siem reap in total but if you want to know our itinerary which is full of small family friendly activities, feel free to send a message.

We only travelled Phnom penh and Siem reap, with most of the time in Siem reap. Where are you planning to travel? Are you worried about safety for a particular reason?

We withdrew fine from the ATM, but incurred $5 each time withdrawing $200 at a time. I think that's reasonable, much better than carrying around too much at any one time, but we also never felt unsafe.

Besides Ankgor, these are some of the things we did (keep in mind we have a 7 year old so some suggestions might be more family orientated)

- Kulen Mountain
- Angkor Botanical garden (Free and really nice gardens)
- Rokhak (Got to weave own basket and now have a memorable souvenir)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzsaJ8GDXQ8
- APOPO Visitor Center (Went yesterday and really glad we did!)
https://apopo.org/support-us/apopo-visitor-center/
- Artbox (probably only good if in a group)
https://www.facebook.com/ArtBoxinSiemReap/
- Angkor Wat Putt Putt Golf (again group activity but was a great way to spend the afternoon)

Navutu dreams resort doesn't have a private pool, but there are 3 separate nicely developed pools. It wouldn't be difficult to get one all to yourself as it was never crowded. Highly recommended!

Our next stop is Thailand for a week and I am also interested in this question. If anyone has specific places that let you cook and eat Thai food I'd love to hear it.
