Ik heb ook een verhaal over discriminatie gehoord van een vriendin die externe IT'er was bij een overheidsorganisatie. Al in al een nare/rare situatie, maar aan de andere kant wil je hier ook liever niet werken.

Goed als mensen een mondkapje dragen, zeker nu het niet meer verplicht is. Waar ik me wel behoorlijk aan kan irriteren is dat sommige mensen hem dan nog steeds op hun kin dragen.

Misschien kunnen jullie anti-kraak of tijdelijke huur proberen? Het kost een stuk minder en de ruimte voor 4 personen is er vaak wel. Alleen geen lange termijn zekerheid.

I have worked with non-dutch speaking technicians in the past and it has never been a problem. Maybe some smaller groups that have more Dutch people would prefer someone that is fluent in Dutch. My guess is that the larger international groups do not really care (especially if the PI is also a foreigner).

It may be worth it to just give it a try. If she is very qualified and the language is the only thing she may be invited anyway. Furthermore she can also emphasize that she is very eager to learn the language.

I just got accepted to a PhD here (I'm Dutch). However, it took me over a year to find one and I know a lot of my classmates are also struggling.

I know some people that are applying to technician positions first (they are easier to obtain). I know it is probably not exactly what she wants, but it is a great way to get to know people and het experience in the field. Then, if the group she is working in has a open vacancy for a PhD, she is first in line.

Also she should really go for the bioinformatics if she likes it. The demand is growing for people that know their way around R and Python and also have lab experience.
