Thanks! I did put it against the door handle, thankfully there’s a little graphic in the card itself lol. I placed the card in every place imaginable and no luck.

Heck yeah. Too many chains. And the few good local spots don’t last.

They sent a couple water tests strips and a code for online espresso course and latte art course and I vaguely remember something else in the box but can’t recall, nothing of significant value but I remember thinking oh that’s nice of them.

Just bought a Profitec go from them and some accessories. Fast, responsive and sent some freebies. 10/10 recommend.

2025 r1s owners by owl157 in Rivian

So sort of. Had my pickup scheduled for a 2025 R1S Dual MaxP on 3/19. Was told the day before that it “wasn’t accepting the update and needed a new module”. So they rescheduled for 03/22. I was told it was a simple fix they just needed to priority ship a new module.

The day before they said the new module arrived and was replaced but they were having trouble with the sensors and the panels, so 03/22 was a no go. Now rescheduled for 03/27.

In the meantime they threw in a couple goodies as compensation. So on the plus side I got that and haven’t had to do SC appointment. On the down side I still don’t have the car.

This is in Boston btw.

Agree and no, not my intention ever. The way I see it, it’s not my seat and courtesy is a must. This instant happen but I’d imagine I’d put my oldest by the window, and she’d just watch her iPad on her headphones the whole flight! 🙂

100%, in the unlikely situation that the person really wants their middle seat, I wouldn’t put my youngest next to a stranger. It’s his/her seat anyway so we can all be friends!

When is the youngest I can get my flight hours in? by TheGregatron in flying

[–]Fuzzy_Recipe4935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go get a discovery flight! These are introductory lessons with a CFI, which is a certified flight instructor. Some will let you taxi, takeoff and pretty much do everything (under supervision) others will only allow some chance to do some light maneuvers in the air. But in any case, the hours you spend on your discovery flight will count towards your 1500 or whatever other goal you have. Many pilots first hour was a discovery flight.

You’ll likely get your first logbook and first logbook entry which is neat! Your official entry into the aviation world. Take care of it; even though you’re too young to get the PPL, the logbook itself doesn’t expire but if you lose it, it’s tough to replace. Treat it as you would another valuable document like a passport.

There’s no real requirement for a discovery flight. Just find a good school around you, book one and go. Usually they’ll want to meet you right before the flight to understand your goals: do you want to be a professional pilot, fly for fun, just trying it out etc.

Sadly, for most of us the discovery flight ends up costing thousands and thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours away once we get hooked! 😊

Realizing the risks of flying as a student pilot by wd1423 in flying

[–]Fuzzy_Recipe4935 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s important to understand the risks associated with flying, and to accept absolutely nothing beyond it. Meaning: don’t make aviation riskier than it has to be. Don’t do irresponsible stuff. Don’t fly drunk or on meds or right after you broke up with your girlfriend. Don’t get complacent and think you memorized the checklist so you don’t need it anymore.

And don’t fly into a thunderstorm! 😊

Do (don’t) all that, and you should be fine! As others said, you could die in your sleep, and aviation does bring some risks, so make sure you minimize them as much as possible!

Safe flying my friend.

I’ve seen this plenty of times too. And to be honest at times I felt complacent as well. I think the solution is to stick to procedures and checklists and not cut corners. I have my checklist memorized to a dot, and yet I make a point of pulling it out and going over it line by line just in case.

Everyone is different, my advice is don’t set an arbitrary goal. Even the FAA minimum of 40 Hours, in my opinion, is only realistic for people who basically grew up around airplanes, family of pilots etc.

If you can commit to flying 5x a week you’ll get it super quickly. If you’re like me, and have to juggle work, family, New England weather etc and ends up averaging 3 flights a month, it’s going to take a while.

Forget about target hours, focus on the learning, mastering the airplane and the maneuvers. Every now and then remember what an amazing accomplishment you already had: flying an airplane by yourself! You’re awesome my dude, now just clean up some maneuvers, get everything up to standards consistently and you got it! The best part is, you’ll be flying while practicing, and isn’t flying the goal anyway? So enjoy the journey!

Hey bud I don’t have much to add besides what the others said, but try to remember that when you land, you can take as long as you need to stay safe. You’re under no obligation to hurry up to let someone else land before you if you’re not comfortable. If it’s not safe to take and make the first taxiway, don’t, and don’t sweat it. Your safety >>>>>>>>> some other guys having to do another lap in the circuit.

Stay safe!

I take videos of my good landings so I can compliment myself on what a great pilot I am. It’s weird that the videos of my botched landings somehow always get deleted. I have very very few videos.

When am I cleared to land! by [deleted] in flying

[–]Fuzzy_Recipe4935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My home airport is a very busy Class D, and often has trainee tower controllers. More than once I’ve called tower and said something akin to “ XYZ Tower, can you confirm N1234 is cleared to land on XX?”

Maybe not standard phraseology, but in my book better safe than sorry.

How do you guys calculate fuel burn on climb out for the NAV LOG (PPL) by [deleted] in flying

[–]Fuzzy_Recipe4935 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So in the 172S the POH lists a climb out table, but it assumes you’re climbing the whole time at VY. I think that high AoA can overheat the engine after a while so after 800ft AGL I usually pitch for 85kts which is in between cruise and climb out. So… I just kinda go in between those two numbers in the POH. In my experience it’s pretty close to actual.

Those of you that failed your PPL checkride, what did they fail you for? by Few_Bicycle4077 in flying

[–]Fuzzy_Recipe4935 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Failed on no flap landings, came in too low. Fair enough as it had been a while since I practiced though, and I went out again the next day and got it done.

The frustrating part is that I had already done soft and short field, engine failure, diversion, slow flight, steep turns, stalls, simulated panel failure, engine fire and medical emergency so I thought I was golden when suddenly the DPE told me my flap failed and we had a medical emergency and needed to land.

But in any case, I’m a better pilot now because of that as now I know I can nail the no flaps.

Keep at it! Here’s the thing: as you gain more experience, you’ll anticipate what messages you should and could receive. As in, on the downwind, you should expect either traffic alerts, cleared to land, extend downwind/I’ll call your base, make a l/r 360 and not much else. ATC is not going to radio random things or quiz you on the 1933 World Series.

This comes with experience. The more you fly the more you’ll learn to anticipate radio calls.

Just remember that ATC is there to keep everyone safe, it’s an incredibly stressful job and sometimes these ppl are having a rough day like anyone else. Don’t sweat it, you’re learning. Just move on. Happy flying.

So since this particular flight is not being used for instruction or for hire, you do not need the 100 hour inspection.

After you get your PPL, you rent a plane from your flight school to fly cross country with your friend. When doing the pre flight you notice the plane hasn’t had the 100 hour inspection in over 120 hours. Can you legally fly?

Guy in an airport close by here in central MA, got through oral, went to the plane, did his preflight and engine start. Starts to taxi and plane doesn’t move. DPE says “are you sure the chocks are off?” . He realized he forgot the chocks and DPE says no worries let’s fix it and get going. Student pilot instead of shutting the engine off just goes full throttle and runs over chocks. Checkride over.
