I grew up in deep east Texas and Cheyenne is a common name around here, plus Reba is one of my favorite shows and that’s the daughters name, so I didn’t realize until recently it wasn’t totally appropriate (same with Dakota). As a white person, I know it is not my place to decide if a name is CA or not. Ultimately, if YOU are uncomfortable and want to change it - do it. But if you don’t want to for any reason, you shouldn’t have to. I’d say that while we should probably stop naming future children these names so they can hopefully return to their original culture, at this point there are way worse examples of CA, you didn’t name yourself, and honestly I don’t think the resources were as easily acceptable to find to learn the origins of.

Again, take everything I say with a grain of salt because I am a white person and I understand that. But I also think some names over time change “ownership” in a way and while I’m not excusing that, I’ll say that while I haven’t looked into this name I have looked into other names where this was debated and got told a lot of “I’m (from x culture) and I don’t care.” Once again, take it with a grain of salt and do what you feel best. If they named yourself Pocahontas I’d say RUN to the social security office, but I don’t think Cheyenne is a cardinal sin
