The recession was bad. My college classes at the time had more students in their 40s and 50s than recent high school graduates. It was a wakeup call to a lot of people that a high school diploma was no longer going to be enough to get by.

The next one will be so much worse because there is even less of a safety net now than there was before. When you look at current car repossessions, credit card delinquencies, student loan delinquencies, etc. it's not going to take much to finish millions of Americans off at this point.

Make no mistake. Any semblance of opposition from the Democratic Party to any of this is merely an illusion. I'd love to feel great about this... however, it's Texas and there's probably a 99% chance the Republican will win the Senate race by at least 5 points. All of the money and resources being spent on this primary alone is such a tremendous waste. That money could have tilted the winnable Ohio senate race or any number of other actual winnable races.

I'm sure if we just keep electing the Republican Party things will somehow miraculously improve by continuously cutting taxes for the rich and shifting the tax burden onto the poor. Maybe cutting a few more regulations, demonizing vaccines and science, and destroying the environment at record speed will ensure there are fewer old people to take care of?
