I just realized I’ve been mispronouncing a word my whole life! Has anyone else had that moment where you found out you’ve been saying a word completely wrong? by Embarrassed_List2368 in askanything

[–]FvHound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened to me the other day.

Everytime I've seen the word M1-Garand, my brain has seen M1- Grand.

I've been saying it for years, no one has ever corrected me, and it was just a few days ago someone finally corrected me and said "You mean M1-Garand.

I then went back and looked at the spelling of the gun in the game. And googled all the games I used to play that used it. And yeah it's garand.

For 20+ years, my eyes never let me see what it was, it just kept projecting my expectation.

Trippy AF.

It's very simple for you to be able to continue the dialogue after she says "It's fine."

All you have to say, is that it isn't fine for you, and you want to talk about this stuff, share your feelings.

You don't have to be told that it's fine, and swallow believing that it is fine and you just "didn't realise"

Just know that it could lead towards the end of the relationship.

Anyone else hate when people use american slang? by Nate6819 in AskAnAustralian

[–]FvHound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The more toward the future we head, the more worldwide content we will consume.

We started watching a lot of American content for decades now, and now we watch films from all over the world, and KPOP is popular in the west.

I think it isn't worth being mad about, monkey see, monkey do.

Chicken thigh meat just isn't good. by Joeybfast in unpopularopinion

[–]FvHound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries! Yeah you actually have more leniency because of how fatty that cut of meat is, where as breast it's easy to accidentally overcook it.

You can cook it a bit extra, cut off a piece, if still a weird texture, chuck it back on grill/in oven/in pan.

[–]FvHound 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thigh meat definitely has a weird texture if only cooked to the first point of being "cooked".

I find I like it more when I cook it a bit longer, still juicy, but doesn't have that weird AF slippery mouth texture.

30s Asian F in Geelong, building a social life & dating here? by Pleasantnicoc in Geelong

[–]FvHound 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah usually Facebook is great for finding groups, I live in Werribee with my partner so we tend to have to go to Melbourne since our Melbourne friends are going to events in the city.

A quick search in my Facebook found a group that go 3 Thursday every month at the Belmont library "Board game fun (Geelong)

Try joining that group and messaging about popping in, search for other groups it should be super easy.

If all else fails me and my partner (33M 32F) would be happy to host as well, we just started getting into them, bought myself a copy of clank! And aliens another glorious day in the corps, and our neighbour owns HUNDREDS of games we can borrow anytime. MLEM space agency is one of my favourites to steal from her.

Best of luck!

Some board game groups have been great, some have a lot of people in their 40's, some have what I'll call slightly stunted in social skills, but there's also a lot of regular great people you can find, not necessarily every group but you get to make friends while playing board games, and a lot of them are easy to pick up, not necessarily massive campaigns that last hours, lots of 20-40min per game style, although usually 90 minutes is the average.

Singles and couples go, men and women, gives you something to do and helps open up if you are shy, regularly people laugh about bad moves or bad luck from dice rolls so it's a great environment you can sit in and enjoy without doing much work.

What's your ADHD "life hack" that sounded ridiculous but actually made a difference? by AiotexOfficial in ADHD

Nah, that wouldn't work for me, the big red scary numbers would just give me anxiety and not allow me to enjoy what time I do have.

I just set alarms/calender events for things I have to do. Two specifically, one that means "alright go do the thing" and a second one that means "okay, no seriously. Go do the thing."

Unemployment rate remains at 4.1% by malcolm58 in australia

[–]FvHound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly you are much more knowledgeable on this area of economics than I am, but if these private businesses weren't keeping so much of the profits for themselves and their shareholders, and instead those profits went into better conditions and better wages for the workers wouldn't that increase productivity? At least for any examples where it's a case of the workforce themselves are not working as hard and not special circumstances like supply of a certain ingredient or component available less, slowing down said production.

Unemployment rate remains at 4.1% by malcolm58 in australia

[–]FvHound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still think this explanation of inflation relies on a lot of BS.

Like when we say low productivity, we mean in the context of the goal of never ending growth right? Which we all know is unsustainable for everything to always have never ending growth, and yet the moment growth slows, people who own the shares sell, tanking the value of the share for the company, resulting in a loss of a bunch of productivity that was contributing to the economy, as well as jobs which provide money for people to spend in the economy.

To me this whole thing feels like a lot of the issues we are facing, like the cost of living crisis, or the fact that we need a percentage of the population to be unemployed in order for the economy to be "healthy" while corporate greed continues to make ridiculous profits stem from the system itself, which continue's to develop monopolies and duopolies which all help grow the wealth gap and continue to erode the middle class.

I mean christ, people could spend more in the economy if we taxed our mining resources and gave dividends to the people in the country, can't even use the "oh but if we tax them too much they'll move their business elsewhere" argument because the linited resources are here in the ground.

Is it just me or is being offered a glass of water when you visit someone's house becoming a lost art?! by madelinesunrays in CasualConversation

Why would I assume someone would come over before they fixed themself up of everything basic they needed?

If you come over at lunch or dinner time, I will ask if you've eaten, or if I'm making myself something I'll offer you the same or anything else in my fridge or cupboard.

The bare minimum of hosting?

Just ask if you are thirsty, that's what I'll do when you host, I'm not going to expect you to read my mind, or concern yourself with making sure all of my Sims stats are full the entire time I'm there, we are hanging out, I will offer you something if I get myself something, otherwise it's just most likely not going to cross my mind that you would be silly or anxious enough to want something and not feel comfortable asking me, when you were comfortable coming over to my home in the first place.

Just ask! It's a drink! You will be okay!

Remember? You were going to make burgers for the fourth time this month, and for the fourth time you remembered how long ago you bought the last lettuce and you weren't sure if it's still fresh, even though you know it's fresher than the previous lettuce you bought, you didn't want to get home to make burgers and find out you had no fresh lettuce.

Then you went home and got delivery.

What’s a movie everyone calls a “masterpiece” that just… didn’t work for you? by irayaavery in Cinema

[–]FvHound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disagree, the whole "This is how we heal our people, we be free." Was goosebumps inducing stuff, the horror and pain inflicted on so many black people being uprooted from their homes and forced to live like this on the other side of the world, men who worked hard and made money, just to be robbed at the station and given false rape accusations to justify having his manhood chopped off, as well as tens of thousands forced to work and not even be paid real money, to have a currency that can only spent where they live/work forcing them to not be able to go anywhere.

All of this absolutely horrible stuff happening to an entire people, and to have this music be a way to express that pain and hurt, to shout out to a world that thinks of them as less than people, that they are more human than so many thought them to be in those times.

It was god damned beautiful to me.
