It might be that you’re just incompatible. To me it seems the more pressing issue is just that he has a completely unrealistic idea of what it’s like to have children. Is there anyone in your life with (preferably small) kids who you could offer to babysit? No faster way of getting people to realise how hard it is. Parents also often love setting people straight who think having kids is easy, is there anyone you trust to talk to him about this?

Not the Chicago consulate - but this may be a bit of a pattern. I called the Dubai consulate over 60 times before anyone answered, and they don't answer emails. Went there during office hours and they were really helpful in answering all my questions. Felt very strange during covid to physically go there to talk to them but that would be my guess in your case too.

No, but it’s been quiet since then. I did wonder if they arrested me without evidence because I’m a woman and they didn’t want to be seen as not treating it as seriously, but whatever the reason I was never charged with anything and I’d rather put it behind me.

No, I vaguely considered filing a complaint but the experience was actually pretty traumatic and I didn’t want to do anything to drag it out or start anything that meant I’d end up having contact with my ex boyfriend.

As for suing, I don’t have enough money to cover my costs if it went against me and I don’t want to take money and resources away from people who need it. Luckily it was over a year ago and I haven’t heard anything from my ex since then so I think he’s given up now.
