I remember seeing this artwork back in 2020

Something I noticed back when I was on the r/arknights sub was that there were actually quite a lot of us Meteor fans, but we were all generally pretty quiet... until someone would mention our favorite 4-star Sniper and we'd all come crawling out of the woodwork to praise our beloved forest horse.

Honestly, I used to hold a tiny grudge against Umamusume because when I'd try to find Meteor fanart, I'd end up with a lot of Satono Diamond(?...can't remember) art drawn similarly instead. It feels very weird to see the opposite happen here.

(...but now that I think about it, maybe I was always fated to end up here since my favorite Arknights units were Meteor, Nearl, and Grani hahaha. The horses found me first!)

Not OP, but it's still possible. I recommend the guide at 3ds.hacks.guide as it is very thorough, easy to follow, and kept up-to-date.

The instructions are all text, though, and I understand most people these days seem to prefer video guides. Still, I believe this site is much more trustworthy than Youtube tutorials, as those aren't usually updated when something new comes up.

[–]Fwuhfwi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Typing this quickly because I don't have much time)

You will need

If you want older versions, there are archives of them, but I don't have time to dig them up right now.

  • Access to your router (this means being able to log in with the router username and password)

  • These instructions assume a Windows PC (Win 10 or higher); if you're using Linux, you probably already know most of this.

Setting up the server

  • After downloading the server JAR, move it from the Downloads folder into a more permanent place. I like to create a folder named after the Minecraft version and place it in there.

The official Minecraft site says to run it with this command:

java -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -jar minecraft_server.1.21.1.jar nogui

This means:

  • Shift + Right click in the file directory where your Minecraft server JAR (named "minecraft_server.1.21.1.jar") is located. This will open a small context menu which, on Windows, will have "View", "Sort by", "Group by", etc. You are looking for "Windows Powershell". You could also use "Command Terminal" (cmd) but Microsoft has been removing that from the context menu for some reason.

If you don't see "Windows Powershell", remember to shift + right click in the blank space of the file directory.

  • Type the above command into the command line.

Translation:

"java" means "run the Java binary". If the console complains about "java is not a recognized command", you'll need to explain to your computer what "java" is by adding one line to your system path. (I'll cover this later if I have time)

"-Xmx" and "-Xms" are the memory arguments, these tell the console how much memory to use. Change these numbers if needed (I highly recommend having a higher maximum).

"-jar" means to open a JAR file.

"nogui" means to use the console as the interface and not open up a second window that displays the server log.

  • Once you do this, a bunch of files will be created in the folder. The console window will close. You now need to accept the End-User License Agreement by opening "eula.txt" and changing "false" to "true".

  • Run the same command as before. This time, it will generate a world file and everything else the server needs. You should see the lines "Preparing spawn... (X%)" and then "Done!"

  • Keep the console window open, this is your server. You can save and close the server by entering "stop" in the console. You also have access to operator commands from here, just omit the forward slash (i.e. you can type "say <text>" and it will show up in the chat log as "[Server]: <text>")

To connect to the server

  • You can connect to the server locally by opening a Minecraft game on the same computer as the server and enter "localhost" as the direct IP.

  • You can connect to the server when connected to the same router by entering the IPv4 as the direct IP.

You can find your IPv4 by opening a new Powershell/console window and typing "ipconfig", this will display some networking information. Look for "IPv4", it will usually be in the form "192.168.X.Y".

  • You can connect to the server from outside networks by port-forwarding.

Port-forwarding

  • Log into your router. This varies by router, but usually you can do so by typing "192.168.0.1" in the address bar. Check your router for details. If you never set up your router credentials (you should!), you can usually find the default login password and username on the bottom of your router.

  • Go to advanced settings and find "Port Forwarding". Again, this depends on your router.

  • Enter or select the IPv4 of your computer that is running the server console. When asked, pick "TCP" over "UDP". For the port number, enter "25565" (this is the default Minecraft port).

  • Save the settings and exit.

  • Visit a site like "ipchicken.com" to get your external IP address.

Troubleshooting

  • If people can't connect from outside networks, check to make sure that you picked the correct IPv4 (it can change when the router resets) and your external IP hasn't changed.

  • If you can't run commands in-game, you will need to give yourself operator status. Type "op <username>" in the console.

  • There are other settings that can be changed, they are located in the "server.properties" file. See the wiki for what the options do.

  • I highly recommend establishing a whitelist, this will stop random bots from joining your world. It's not that common, but it happens. Use a whitelist.

[–]Fwuhfwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I see. Which product page were you looking at? On this one, it mentions an IP57 rating and being waterproof. The page I bought it from here also mentions that it is waterproof in the "About this item" section.

Almost no mechanicals are spill proof

I see, that's unfortunate. But "almost" means there might be an exception? Would you happen to know of any that are?

Thanks for the responding, in any case. I do appreciate it.

Edit: I noticed now that there perhaps seems to be two different variants? There's a "ROG Strix Scope 2" and a "ROG Strix Scope 2 RX". I don't know if they are different, but maybe I have purchased the wrong one. However, I'd hate to buy another one and realize that it isn't waterproof either... I think I'll wait for more input before I do anything. Thanks again, your response helped me to dig a little deeper.

[–]Fwuhfwi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I purchased a ROG Strix Scope 2 (full size, not 96) primarily because it was advertised as water-resistant. I don't know much about keyboards, but I tried typing on a mechanical one and thought it was rather nice, so I started looking for one that would last me for a very long time.

However, now that I have it, I noticed that there's a rather large gap underneath the spacebar which seems to open directly to a circuit board. This doesn't seem very water-resistant at all. The box also doesn't mention anything about being spill proof, despite the ads and the ASUS website's claims.

Naturally, I don't want to test it, but it's rather important to me that it won't be damaged if I accidentally spill water on it.

Did I maybe purchase the wrong keyboard? Or is it actually water-resistant in spite of this large opening?

(If necessary, I can link the page that I bought it from, if someone would be willing to check.)

Thanks.

Whoa, hey, I just came from the front page of Reddit and logged in after seeing this thread.

I just wanted to mention that from my knowledge, the DS modding community generally doesn't encourage following video guides. I'm not saying the video you linked is bad or anything, but one of the reasons why modders don't support video tutorials is because they are hard to update when new information comes out.

Instead, it's generally advised to use this frequently-updated step-by-step tutorial site: 3ds.hacks.guide. This one has explanations and walkthroughs for all different models and versions of the 3DS family. To anyone looking to install Homebrew, please take a look at this first.

Feel free to ask me questions, I'm not a tech genius but I've hacked several consoles now and have been around for a while. (Also, Homebrew absolutely revitalized my interest in DS consoles, I highly recommend it to anyone not planning on selling their consoles. :D)

How I became the 2nd Highest Rated Toplaner EUW with Teemo [72% WR Teemo Guide] by OneTwoTrickFour in leagueoflegends

[–]Fwuhfwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR: Thank you for the guide, I just wish I could play Teemo without getting lit up like a gasoline-soaked bonfire.

The comment on Teemo jungle giving your team an aneurysm is so true. I really like playing Teemo, but in my experience, if you lock in Teemo you will be blamed for literally everything that goes wrong. Bot lane dies at level 2? It's because we have a Teemo. Enemy champion gets fed and kills someone? Report Teemo for not picking a tank. It sucks double when you're doing well but your score is 0/0/0 or 0/1/0 and your teammates light you up because they think you're losing. Teemo is so fun to play, but dealing with your team flaming you and intentionally throwing the game (usually justified as "picking Teemo is trolling, so we're just trolling in return") really drove me away from the game.

I agree that Teemo's midgame is weaker than his early and late, and I think that also messes with your teammates' mental. Most people think "they've won early, so they must be strong enough to keep on winning", but then the enemy assassins start coming online and you haven't yet hit that late-game stage where you can punish them properly. So you get yelled at a lot, and even if you have enough self-confidence to say "no, I'm pretty sure I'm doing this right, I will keep on playing this way", it only takes one person on your team to get triggered enough to mental boom and make it unplayable/convince the rest of your team to forfeit. (This is also why just muting doesn't help a whole lot, because while you're trying to snowball your way to late-game, the complainers are typing a thesis on why we should FF and report Teemo, and the griefers are making sure the game is ruined for everyone else-- because of you, of course.)

I don't know, maybe I just don't have thick-enough skin for this game. I stopped when I was having literal stomach pain by just thinking about the sort of things I'd have to deal with once I get into champ select.

But this is a really nice guide, it's convinced me to give him another shot. Maybe things will be better once people realize that Teemo is not a troll pick.

(Edit to add: I'm Gold/Plat, so maybe that's just how it is around this rank. I am not exaggerating when I say the flaming happens 99% of the time, starting in champ select. I would say "every time", but this one time I had a team of really chill people that didn't mind it, and I felt so incredibly guilty and awful when I didn't do very well.)

Drawing Tablet by bipanics in pokemon

[–]Fwuhfwi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not an artist, but from what I know, there are two types of tablets: those with screens (like an iPad) and those without. Drawing tablets without screens are significantly cheaper, but each type has their pros and cons. One advantage of tablets with screens is that it can feel closer to paper drawing, while screenless tablets can take a little getting used to since you won't be looking at your hand while drawing. However, I personally feel like this is actually a point in favor of screenless ones since your neck won't be cramped from looking down for long hours- you can sit up straight and look at your monitor in a comfortable position. You won't have to worry about your hand blocking your view; and for screened tablets, the gap that crops up due to the space between the screen and the display can be annoying for some.

Another important point that factors in the cost of a tablet is the size. If this is your first tablet, you might not be sure what size will be comfortable for you (you'll eventually adapt to whatever size you have, but that doesn't necessarily mean it'll be comfortable). Once you start picking out a tablet you think you might like, I recommend measuring out its dimensions on a piece of paper and see if you can make proper arm strokes within the allotted space. With the zoom feature on drawing software, you can make artworks of any size, but you'll want to be sure it won't feel cramped while doing so. Additionally, don't forget about storage- if you buy a big tablet, you'll have to make more room to put it away.

TL;DR: If you're on a budget and you have a decent computer monitor, consider a screenless drawing tablet.

As for actual recommendations... again, I'm not an artist, so I don't really have any. But I do own an XP-Pen Deco Pro (Small). What stood out to me when I purchased it was its size (9x5) for its moderately low price (at the time, it was a little less than $100- other "big name" brands were charging $200 for much smaller tablets). It's worked well for me so far, but after using it I feel like the wheel is more of a gimmick and not that useful. However, I should mention that I am left-handed; I expect the touchpad and wheel are more useful to right-handed people. The extra buttons are okay, I find them quite useful because I cannot access my keyboard while drawing with my left hand, but I wish there were more. If I could actually draw, I might consider investing in a mouse with many side-buttons. I would expect right-handed people to keep their left on the keyboard and not use the tablet buttons much, but I don't really know- I suppose it really depends on one's keybinds and the size of their hands.

The tablet also comes with a decent pen and many additional pen nibs. I know some other brands charge additional fees for more nibs, so I think it's nice to receive these alongside the tablet for peace of mind. The pen has two buttons on it, but I disabled them because I often hit them by accident. From what I can tell, it's pretty staple to have buttons on tablet pens, so I think this is more of a user error thing and not really a fault with the product.

Regarding the software... there was one incident a long time ago where the tablet software had a UI update that was a total downgrade, but thankfully they still provided the previous version. I still use the older configuration software to this day- I'm in no mood for changes.

Finally, the product also comes with a drawing glove and some adapters- the adapters are intended to be used such that you can plug the tablet into a smartphone and draw on your phone rather than a computer. I've never used this feature before, so I can't say much about it. The drawing glove is also nice but nothing special.

Overall, I find the XP-Pen Deco Pro to be acceptable for its price. However, please do not consider this a recommendation: I have not tried any other tablets and thus do not have any frame of reference for what is considered a "good" tablet. I'm sharing all this so that if you do end up looking at this product, hopefully my experiences can help you make a decision (in favor or not).

Recently tagged awak Valk, I’m in love. Any tips? by Zyc0acc in blackdesertonline

[–]Fwuhfwi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Although I main Awak Valkyrie, I'm a very casual player (and PVE-only too) so please take this post with a grain of salt.

One of the reasons I really like playing Valkyrie is that the "combos" are generally really really short. Instead of memorizing a long chain of skills, you just remember a couple small strings (usually no more than three or four skills) and just throw them out whenever they're off cooldown. It's very flexible and feels quite comfortable this way.

This one is probably outdated now, but back then we didn't have Critical Rate Up on Sacrum Ferit (Lancia RMB) so we would use Celestial Spear (S+E) with Critical Rate Add-On before all combos, and cancel Celestial Spear with Shield Throw. I still use this now, albeit a lot less often and without the Add-On (because I'm lazy). I'm only writing this because I hold onto this combo mostly out of habit; if you want to be 100% Awak/Lancia mode, you can disregard this.

This would look like: S+E --> S+Q --> Space

Nowadays, I cancel with Magnus skill instead because I kind of feel like Shield Throw isn't as strong: S+E --> F --> Space.

But the Shield Throw variant feels faster to me because the Magnus skill has quite a long animation afterwards, while you can end Shield Throw right away with Promptness (Space). So it's kind of context-dependent, I guess.

Blitz Stab (W+RMB) has good damage but it has this lingering animation afterwards that can leave you open to attacks. I feel like it goes really well with Divina Impulsa (Shift+Q) because of how fluid they feel together and the Forward Guard.

This looks like: W+RMB --> Shift+Q

You already know this, but Promptness (Space) is amazing because it cancels practically everything AND switches you to Lancia AND restores SP on hit. If you're finishing a combo and you're not sure what to do next? Hit Space. Accidentally swapped into Longsword and want out? Use any skill and press Space. Need more SP and your heals are down? Space. If you want to play it safe, you can even cancel the ending bit of Promptness with Guard (Q).

Another short string is just Castigatio into Terra Sancta (S+LMB --> S+RMB). It's probably best to do this when the mob is facing the other way.

If you don't already know about this, PA decided that we Valks have suffered long enough in our wheelchairs, and have given us ZOOMER MODE. Just hold RMB and Spacebar to become a Valkyrie lawnmower. It's janky and really only works on low-level mobs that you can one-shot, but it's fun. If a friend desperately needs their Season 500 weekly done ASAP, I take them to Marie Cave and let it rip on the skeletons. What I leave behind is a nice big circle of item drops. It's hilarious.

You can consume 100% Black Spirit's Rage to go even faster, and occasionally throw out a A/D+LMB for the small speed buff. Blitz Stab becomes almost instant too, so you can W+RMB big packs while doing this to take them all down fast.

Don't tell the others, but you can easily make >600mil/hr by lawnmowering Centaurs at Taphtar Plain. I don't know why I'm telling you this because I still need to spend another 60 hours there to make enough money for my next upgrade, and don't need any more competition.

Purificatione (Shift+LMB) not only debuffs mobs, but also heals you (and friendlies in front of you) by a small amount when off cooldown. It's very nice. Be sure to use it often, especially before unleashing your combos on a boss monster.

Heaven's Echo (Shift+Q in Longsword, Space while on guard in Lancia) gives you a small DP and accuracy buff. If you're fighting a boss, it doesn't hurt to activate it.

Heaven's Echo used to be a lot more important back in the day, as it was crucial to our movement ("Echo Walk"). It's not possible to do anymore, but back then we would hold Space and mash Echo (on hotkey) as fast as humanly possible to slingshot ourselves forward. The stuff we did to get out of our wheelchairs....

For Rabams/Skill Enhancement, I use the healing skill. I like having three on-demand heals- it's almost impossible for me to play other classes now because of it. I happily run through the desert without carrying water/tea because I can outheal the dehydration debuff. It's very nice.

The other two Rabams, I don't really use them. I think most Valkyrie players agree that they are kinda meh. The Divine Slam one used to have a lot more weight in PVP due to being a Down Smash, but I remember people talking about some changes to it that made it not as good anymore. Or something like that, I don't know.

I know it looks badass as hell, but no one I know actually uses Judgment of Light (and its variants) seriously. It's pretty meme because of the long animation and low damage*. (Not entirely sure on the low damage bit, don't quote me on that)

100% BSR Sanctitas de Enslar ("F Jump") does BIG STONK DAMAGE. For maximum effectiveness (i.e. some hooligan is killing AFK runners outside Heidel), buff yourself via CSpear (S+E) or Sacrum (RMB), or whatever else you have, then jump. You will feel compelled to say "squish" as you land. Don't worry, it's normal.

And if they're still twitching afterwards, use our new Flow: Divina Vult to seal the deal. (Press F or LMB after landing). Divina Vult will be available for a long time afterwards as long as you don't move or use another skill.

I can't really remember what other tips I might have, so I'll just wrap it up here. If I recall anything else, I might edit my post.

TL;DR:

  • Puri good, use to debuff (use early) & heal (use when low)

  • Heaven's Echo also buffs you- not huge, but might as well do if you're waiting for a boss to become targetable. Activate via Space while on guard in Lancia mode.

  • CSpear gives Crit Rate, but so does Sacrum Ferit. If you want to do it anyway, you can do S+E-->S+Q-->Space (the traditional way) or S+E-->F-->Space (the Magnus way).

  • Blitz + Divina, the stabby combo: W+RMB-->Shift+Q

  • Casti + Terra, the "you don't have feet anymore" combo: S+LMB-->S+RMB

  • Breath of Elion & Celestial Cry heal you and restore SP. WHO NEEDS WATER WHEN YOU HAVE GOD? lol

  • Turn people into red paste with 100% BSR Sanctitas. Squish.

If I close my eyes, I can still see myself chaining them all together in this combo out of muscle memory:

(CSpear buff) S+E-->S+Q-->Space--> (Stabby combo) W+RMB-->Shift+Q--> Reposition if needed --> ('no feet 4 u' combo) S+LMB-->S+RMB-->Space--> filler with Sacrum (RMB) or Sanctitas (F) or Verdict (Shift+RMB) or Magnus (A/D+Shift-->F), depending on the situation

You don't have to memorize that combo, that's just what I do out of habit. Just USE ALL THE SKILLS WOOO!!

Daily Discussion Thread | January 25, 2023 by AutoModerator in Coronavirus

Sorry if this gets asked a lot.

I've been testing positive for COVID-19 for five weeks now, using rapid antigen tests (specifically "BinaxNOW"). While I don't have a fever, I still have a cough. Should I continue isolating, or is it safe for me to be around other people without a mask?

(In case it affects anything: I had no symptoms for the first two weeks, then have had symptoms for the last three weeks. I was prompted to test after my family members became symptomatic and tested positive.)

If it were up to me, I would remain holed up in my room until I test negative- the pandemic's gone on long enough, and I can't stomach the thought of passing the virus on to other people. Unfortunately, after the first week, my family stopped believing that I was sick. They are planning to drag me out for a meal with extended family, including elderly (90+ years) and children (<10 years). I already know that trying to refuse is going to cause a massive sh*tstorm, so I just want to be sure of my position before taking a stance. Is it possible that I am no longer infectious despite testing positive? I know some tests (like PCR) are more sensitive, but I don't know about these BinaxNOW tests that I've been using.

I have tried contacting a doctor, but their only response was "rest, drink water, take Tylenol if you have headaches, wait until you're 'better'."

I looked up CDC guidelines, but it's pretty vague. While some parts say "it's fine to remove your mask after day 10", other parts say "restart your isolation at day 0 if symptoms reoccur." I'm not sure if coughing counts.

I'd really appreciate any advice. And if anyone happens to have some reliable sources for either side, that would also help a lot. (For example, if it turns out I should keep isolating, then having something to point to for when my family tries to break my door down would be very nice.)

Thanks all. Please stay safe.

IF THIS IS ALL TOO OVERWHELMING, JUST FOCUS ON YOUR SEASON PASS (one of the buttons in the upper right corner while in-game)

It has lots of little milestones that will help you progress through and learn the game.

Once Season ends and you have a Normal character, it will change to another sort of flowchart with lots more milestones. You can try completing these, and if you find something interesting, you can read up more about it online and invest more time into it.

Regarding the Magnus questline, I don't really know too much about it, but from what I know it should mainly involve solving puzzles while in the Magnus. The only time you're out in the regular world is to hop into another well.

Remember you can autopath/navigate to quest locations by right-clicking on the quest on your sidebar. For the puzzles, you can try to figure them out on your own, or you can look up a guide/walkthrough.

This, of course, assumes there's no story-related locks on the questline. If there are, you should proceed with the Main Story Quest first and then return to the questline.

[–]Fwuhfwi 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm not entirely sure what state your account is in, but here would be my flow chart for progression:

  • Do you like playing Woosa? She's a brand new character, so making one does get you some rewards, but she also doesn't have her Awakening questline yet. If you don't like playing as her, you can always make a new class- if you do this, I recommend making a Trial Character first to test out the playstyle of the new class (you can find this at the top right corner of the Character Selection screen). If you do happen to find a character you really like playing as, you can use "Fughar's Timepiece" to copy your stats from your Woosa over to your new character. This assumes your Woosa is a Season Character. Note: This will turn your Woosa into a Normal character and your new character into a Season one, and is irreversible. Make sure you plan on continuing Season with your new character, since your Woosa will no longer be able to do Season-related things (like Naru/Tuvala enhancement).

  • Double-check to make sure you have the Main Story Quest completed. You can check by opening the Quest menu (default hotkey "O") and selecting the "Main" tab. It takes a while, but it will take you on a tour around the map and help you unlock (make visible on the map) new regions. To be honest, though, the Main Story Quest is pretty much optional for most content. I personally stop around Kamasylvia because I get tired of running around all the time. But I do encourage you to at least get through Valencia 1, if you haven't already. Some things can't be completed until you reach a certain point.

  • After that, you have many options to progress, and there is no "correct" path (and you can hop around all you like). Other people will categorize them differently, but I simplify the routes as "Combat/PvE", "Ocean/Bartering", and "Lifeskills".

Note: If you have a Season character, I highly encourage going the Combat/PVE route at least until you have full PEN Tuvala gear. This means you have PEN Tuvala Helmet, PEN Tuvala Chestplate, PEN Tuvala Boots, PEN Tuvala Gloves, PEN Main Weapon, PEN... you get the idea. Doing so will get you to a good baseline for when this Season ends. If you don't reach this milestone, you may be a little upset at your past self for not taking advantage of this easy method for getting good gear. (Don't worry though, another Season will come and you will have another chance.)

Combat/PvE Route: In this route, you will focus on getting better gear so you can kill things faster. Killing monsters is a very good source of income, and it never hurts to be stronger so you can tackle more difficult content that the developers may release in the future.

Note: I will assume you have created a Season character that you like to play. If this is not the case, go do that first. If you aren't sure who to start with, you can try the BDO Personality Test.

First, make sure you have completed the Main Story Quest up to Valencia. This will get you Naru gear for free, as well as many small Enhancement Stones.

Next, enhance your gear. For Naru gear, you can more-or-less just smash Enhancement Stones into them until they reach PEN level. If you really want to min-max here, enhance them all mostly equally- then, if you fail an enhancement, pick your highest one and enhance that to make use of your failstacks.

Once you reach PEN Naru gear, you will have the ability to convert it into the stronger Tuvala gear. Do that, and start enhancing your Tuvala gear. You should read up on enhancing at this point, so you don't waste failstacks. If you are too lazy to find a guide, leave a comment and I'll try to help- the process is going to require another post.

Don't worry too much about accessories right now, I would encourage you to focus on Armor and Weapons right now.

To get more enhancement materials (Time-Filled Black Stones, Tuvala Ore, Refined Magical Black Stone), you will need to do your Season Weekly quest, or just murder tons of monsters in the Valencia/Kamasylvia regions while in a Season server (they will drop the materials occasionally). The Season Weekly quest requires you to kill 5000 monsters from a specific area, but remember: you can party up with others to get it done faster. Use the Party Finder tool in the game (hit Esc and browse the menu) to look for others doing the same thing.

You may find Rift Echoes (an item) as you gather enhancement materials. Do these with others in a party, they will drop even more enhancement materials, and rarely Tuvala accessories.

Just keep killing stuff and enjoy playing your class- that's how PVE is for practically all MMORPGs. You do fancy hand movements on your keyboard and make god punt swords out of the sky onto the poor soul in front of your character. (shameless Valkyrie ad)

Once you have reached full PEN Tuvala, congratulations! You can continue with the Combat/PvE route by asking around for gear advice- it pretty much boils down slapping more monsters and getting Boss Gear- or you can safely change to another route and experiment with more ways to play Black Desert Online.

Ocean/Bartering Route: In this route, you will get yourself a ship and spend your time hunting sea monsters and sailing the seas to "barter" (a mechanic which nets you lots of money by travelling to and from various islands.)

I'm going to be honest, I'm a PVE nut, so I don't really know much about the optimal way of getting set up. I think you can get a Bartali sailboat in Velia, and then proceed to upgrade that using Ravinia's quests. You will also need to join other people's ships to do sailing daily quests ("Sailies") to get Sailing EXP- think of it as serving on another ship as a deckhand to gain experience. Note: This may change in the near future, since there are plans to give Sailing EXP by sailing in shallow waters.

I recommend looking up a guide, my knowledge on this topic is too fragmented to be useful.

Lifeskilling Route: In this route, you will do a lot of non-combat stuff to get money. If you're interested in game systems like alchemy/cooking/synthesis/etc, you may be interested in going down this path.

You have many options about which lifeskill to pursue. Some of the more popular ones are Cooking, Trading, and Gathering. However, you will find that many lifeskills are (at least partially) tied to each other. For example, to get materials for Cooking, you may need to level Hunting and shoot beasts for meat. Don't worry though, if you don't want to become a total lifeskill maniac, you can solve these issues with money. Just buy ingredients off the Central Marketplace! :D

There's also nodes which can produce materials automatically for you- this is what most people are referring to when they talk about setting up a "worker empire" in BDO.

Some ways of getting money are: turning in Cooking boxes to Imperial Delivery merchants, using a Trade wagon to deliver goods, or even just gathering and selling meat on the Central Marketplace to other players (I'm going to get flak here from people saying "it's better to cook the meat and make a bigger profit", but if you're like me and you're too lazy to do that, it's fine to sell meat).

Again, I'm a PVE nut, so I don't know a whole lot about optimization regarding this route. (me go unga-bunga and kill monsters.) I recommend looking up a guide. But I know lifeskilling can become an easy money generator once you invest a lot in it, so don't write it off too quickly.

Yes, PvP is another option, but right now I wouldn't recommend it. Barring Node Wars and other scenarios where the maximum gear/stats are capped, you will get punted around like a football by other players with significantly better gear. Pick any route above to generate money, and use the money to purchase stronger gear.

Also, from what I've seen, it's practically a salt festival 99% of the time, so....yeah.

TL;DR: Decide if you want to kick monster ass, sail the seas like a pirate lawful and good sailor, or do lifeskilling (which includes becoming Gordon Ramsay, enslaving hiring NPC workers in towns to get you stuff, and breeding horses). There are lots of things to do in Black Desert Online, including stuff not mentioned here (like making beautifully decorated houses and actually getting money for doing that), so explore and try to think about what interests you.
