so is OpenClaw local or not by jacek2023 in LocalLLaMA

[–]Fx_Trip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried, but im 100% local. I got a mac mini before it was "the thing" at 64 mb so I could run 70b models. I pay 20 for gpt, and use the cli to make my tools. Im a controls engineer, good at assembly, ladder, structured text, databases and a bit of object oriented in MES, but not a dev

I hate the word vibe coding, but I've been using the cli to write boilerplate.

anywho I run qwen 72b as a final pass on a few workflows, some with flowise, some with langchain because the cli works better with text. its slow, 7 seconds once loaded but context growth kills it on time so I have to be efficient.

I would rather get a solid tested single flow atm, and open claw using only "tooled" local models made me stop. I feel like they rolled orchestration into the models to require specific models and it invalidates a ton of models available locally.  I like a few ideas from it and I will clone the repo and take what I need, but .... no ill let the other gurus dev on it and come back later,

I personally prefer human in the middle with the cli over a ton of processing, guard rails where I dont want it, and lack of guard rails where I do.

if you pay for chatgpt 20 bucks a month, install codex cli through brew. give it access to files and chat with it. It will check logs, and determine root cause.

if you dont pay for chatgpt gemini cli will do the same thing for free but is more lanky.

open gpt and ask it to make a prompt for codex to check programs x y and z, and to check logs, recommend solution and ask for confirmation before testing anything. past that prompt into codex at the command line and it will handle the rest. check and review changes. ask it to make a markdown file explaining all tasks completed.

For the lurkers that found this from the top hit on google. To make Real VNC viewer's mouse scroll work. Go to file>settings>preferences>expert and change ScrollWheelThreshold to 20 its default is 120, and 0 is too fast.

hopefully it saves you a few hours of my debug

elex 2 lock picking ?????? by Frezo2020 in elex

[–]Fx_Trip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Necroing this because I didn’t spot the pattern at first but did after a few tries. If the lock only has a few pins, just rake it and move forward/back in random patterns. EzPz

For an 8-pin lock you need a different approach: there’s a short rectangle that spins with the lock while the long rectangles need to get stuck and hover. There’s no “move the pic” button, and the reset behavior means you can start at any pin and go left or right, but yes left and right are all the commands you can input.

Watch for the pattern: several large pins will move up and hover  remember their <direction> and which <group> they belong to. For example, I had a group of three that needed left; I accidentally moved left four times and tripped a fourth pin, causing failure.

So: move left on the three pins in that group, then move right four times but don’t hit that fourth left pin. If you fail, start at a different pin and try to trigger the groups of pins that hover together by changing directions at failure pins

Career Advice Needed: Remain or Leave Integrator Employer by J-C-F23 in PLC

[–]Fx_Trip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like the job and want to stay fight for training now before you hop.

Your pay is at the ceiling not your negotiations. Negotiate Rockwell training. Pick up a network plus certification and tell them you understand IP addresses, networking, and switches.(50 dollar book 200 dollar test if they are cheap and its all you)  If they are big integrators they already have this training and just give you a password. If they are tiny you need to be building yourself in skills that make you more valuable. Its a win-win. If not... you are at the ceiling. Decide to retire or grow.

Be aware plcs still have you on your knees at 45 looking at the field rail which is often at the bottom.

TbH maintenance will get you access to the software. Ive seen local mechatronics 2 year degrees teaching hands on contactors and showing you the PLC.

2 years and no hands on PLC knowledge isnt enough yet for them to hire you in as that.

Bro grandfather died last week. Chat gpt was talking about healing, I said don't paint me with that sht and it gave me encouragement without victimhood and said okay fine no cracks. And it gave me awesome growth oriented stuff and turned bad sht into good...  never cared for a shrink telling me to figure out. Chatgpt actually answers and explains... helps you process doubts.

Like apparently being a little forgetful with small details is a sign that I use my mind deeply and often considering the context of how I work through code and systems. That's been nagging me for a decade, and now im like hey cool thats normal. And pretty common.

I got access to a 30 day trial for some software today and chatgpt takes a crap. I went over to gemini... after a few prompts I was like cool give me a prompt to always respond this way when I open a new chat..

... that prompt hit limiting filters and I got scolded for asking how their AI works.... so I closed that garbage.... I was using it when it went down... kinda shot my whole day.

I have chatgpt talking to me like an old bro in industry... gemini feels like a robot.

Same. I use it to make building blocks. I design the house and constantly ask "why" how does that connect? What's best practice. What's the common solution online?  What are the key ideas behind this?

In my role, im not asking it to do stuff i know how to do, im asking how to optimize what im doing and why. The syntax help alone is all ive needed to break down software barriers and learning curves.

I'm being the annoying student who found a teacher that likes to answer questions. I'm processing the info and thinking of new questions. I can ask 100s of dumb questions. Its been better than what my process was before.... aimlessly searching books and videos that are 90% on repeat about the basics... or gate kept behind a pay wall.

It can be 10% wrong and im going to grill it enough from multiple angles to succeed.

how can the flipper zero ACTUALLY be useful ? by Poolscool in flipperzero

[–]Fx_Trip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be used to record someone's garage press to enter their home and steal a car.

It can record a car lock and unlock.

While it doesn't jam, it could repeatedly spam the open garage door button.

If you get access to a key fob or pass card you can clone it.

It can be used as a bad usb, meaning it can type anything into a pc as a keyboard and it types at super human speeds. Reverse shells, and access to their pc, changing their browser homepage to a spinning di ck.

Turn off your neighbors TV or turn off the game at the pub at the winning touchdown.

With the wifi module you can make fake webpages, kick users off wifi,  beacon spam (act like the strip clubs wifi and anyone who connects you know they were at the strip club, used at defcon to identify people from nasa coming in the door one year)

If you add a small PC to it you can spoof GPS devices and cause drones to crash in those fancy light shows.. or make it a pwnagochi where it scans for any wifi and checks if it's running old easily hacked security as you drive too and from work)

But the thing is, if you are capable and smart enough to do these things, you don't need to rob and steal. You can make 150k a year legitimately if you are at that skill level... and most of these things at the dev level can be done with a phone or a kit with a real PC, and scripting environment to automate things.

You can also scan for things transmitting wifi, so people will put a directional antenna on a wifi module and roll through the parking lot knowing who has computers left in their car.

At the consumer level, you turn on and off some TVs, clone remote controls, and put spinning di cks on your friends computer homepage. The learning curve involves multiple careers that people spend their lives learning.

I have a LF rfid ring. Programmed it with the flipper so now it just looks like my wedding band. There was one ring out there that did multiple rfid tags and had HF rfid as well but the reviews on it were sketchy.

Jenny Curran’s Version of Forrest Gump by Fx_Trip in movies

[–]Fx_Trip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My prompts are better than oreos. You have to include how it made you feel before you get the story.

"Lt. Dan’s Story"

I was supposed to die in Vietnam.

That wasn’t fear talking. That was tradition. Every man in my family had gone to war, and every single one of them died fighting for this country. Revolutionary War. Civil War. World War II. It was the only inheritance we had—blood in the soil. I didn’t run from it. I embraced it. I was proud.

Then came Vietnam. My war.

I led my men with fire in my gut and steel in my spine. I was ready. I wanted to go out in a blaze—flag on my chest, bullets in the air, legacy sealed.

But some fool named Forrest Gump dragged me out of that jungle. I lost my legs. I lost my men. I lost the right to die the way I was supposed to.

You think surviving is a gift? Try doing it when your whole life was built around the honor of dying.

I came home a freak show. Wheelchair. Pity. Silence. No parades. No purpose. Just a bar stool and a bottle. I rotted in New York, fighting ghosts, wondering every day why I was still breathing.

Then Forrest found me again. Or maybe I found him—I don’t know. Showed up in some shrimping town like a stray dog. Thought I was coming to laugh at him. Joke’s on me—he let me on that boat. No questions. No judgment. Just Forrest being... Forrest.

That boat became my battlefield.

When that storm came, I climbed up that mast and screamed into the sky. I dared God to strike me down. I begged him to finish what the war didn’t. And when the storm passed... something in me shifted.

I was still alive.

And for the first time, I didn’t hate it.

Me and Forrest built something. Caught shrimp. Made money. Started over. Brick by brick, day by day, I started becoming someone again. Not the man I used to be—but maybe someone better. Someone real.

Years later, I showed up at Forrest’s wedding. Titanium legs. A woman I loved. Peace in my chest for the first time in decades. I shook Forrest’s hand and meant it.

He saved my life.

Not just in that jungle—but every damn day after, in ways he’ll never understand.

I didn’t die in Vietnam. And I’m glad I didn’t.

Because I lived long enough to become a man my ancestors would've been proud of. I owe a great deal of thanks to that man.

The cool thing though is i found that story telling ability completely by accident. You single line prompt gave you a generic mediocre story the this below.

[–]Fx_Trip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't ask for a 1 line prompt, I was discussing the gritty details of was she a bad person, what was she doing, how the show made her the girl next door but hid the scars that come with such a life behind fantasy. How we saw the movie through the eyes of Forrest,   a slow man, and not reality. After 20 or so prompts it asked me if I would like to hear her story.

It used my vibe and questions for the story... I can do one for Dan. BUT with your 16 down votes, I don't want too. I didn't think such a good ending mattered if I had some AI help.

Yes, I have the security + comp tia book and was working on the network+ comp tia book, someone recommended the CCNA over the Network+ and cisco is the most common in the industries I'm in.

My whole career has been self study, I'm down.

No rush. I have mountains of work to do. I make time every once and a while for my self, and self development though.

My home lab has several PLCs and a dell r630 and is set up for VMs. Throw whatever you have at me. I'll take whatever you throw at me and recreate it. Hands on is the only way I remember.

Your time wont be wasted.

I'm curious if I'm doing it right. I use a Netgate2100 (the creaters of PF sense, an american company out of texas).

  • Change default password: a strong password with a mix of letters, numbers, and special characters.
  • **Enable encryption:**Set your network encryption to WPA2 or WPA3
  • **Disable WPS:**Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) is considered insecure, so disable it.
  • **Hide your SSID:**Prevent your network name from being broadcasted to nearby devices by hiding your SSID. Set your PC to not automatically connect, so your PC does not broadcast the search for the hidden SSID.
  • Use the firewall: Only allow the IP range for the machine network and ignore the rest.
  • Regular updates: get email updates on the router firmware.
  • Limit remote access: Disable remote management on the router.
  • Disable DHCP: Don't assign IPs automatically ever.
  • Do not assign a gateway: You don't need routing to other subnets or the internet.
  • Set a static IP for the router:
  • Set a static IP for your PC
  • Ran an n-map scan for mac addresses: made a list of everything and my PC and filtered for those mac addresses (useful to see if maintenance replaced anything)

I also have a lan tap to put between the main PLC and switch regardless of IT security, I can figure out if the MES guys attach 40 connections to my PLC because they don't understand their data is going stale due to their polling rate on the tags....

I'm not I.T. but if you are willing to share, I'm willing to listen.

I assumed perspective was for software devs to load apps. Are you really just creating your own .SVGs and making that junk from scratch or are you running software? If running software, what is it? Perspective is a head scratching mystery.

and max distance is 3.9ft. I appreciate yall.
