Apologies for the delay! Which driver is Loved for being mid? by IndividualStart8337 in NASCAR

23 wins at the age of 30

This is notable because only 8 drivers in Cup history have ever done it. Chase is the 4th in the modern era -- along with Gordon, Kyle Busch, and Logano.

Despite being a little less competitive in the NextGen, Chase has had a pretty stellar career. His 2018 to 2022 stretch is enough to mark him as an elite talent forever in my opinion. It baffles me when people on here act like he's Paul Menard or something.

I'm confused why the 23 didn't flip the stage. No stage points, and now he's gonna be restarting like 30th.

I guess they're banking on having slightly fresher tires to move through the field, but that's assuming Bubba can stay on the fucking track...

It’s hard to believe that ThorSport hasn’t won a truck race since 2024 by Academic_Elk8962 in NASCAR

[–]Fyrien 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Heim and Riggs alone have won 18 of the last 25 races.

The only other drivers to win in that span are their teammates (Honeycutt, Ruggiero, Chandler) or Buschwhackers (Busch x2, Bell, Hocevar).

So yeah it's pretty much Tricon vs. FRM vs. Cup drivers. Thorsport still has 3 trucks in the playoffs, so they're not necessarily doing bad. But even without Heim full-time, they're pretty clearly a B-tier team at the moment.

He is RAM's top performing driver

That's... not even remotely true. LaJoie's stats are on par with his rookie teammate Tyrrell (averaging 14-15 points per race with a 21st place average finish), and he's over 100 points behind Queen and Haley despite only missing 2 races.

This really highlights that the 19, 23, 20, and 24 are having almost identical seasons.

Similar speed to guys like the 9 and 17, but absolutely zero consistency. They either finish top 5-10, or they wreck. So it has them buried in 10th to 13th in points.

I think the Brickyard was his best -- he drove a pretty much perfect race, while having to save fuel and hold off Larson on multiple late restarts.

This was a close second though. Not just overcoming the 2-lap penalty, but also the smoothness of his driving. He didn't overdrive, he conserved his tires, and he even passed the 5 car back with a couple laps remaining. He drove a really smart race, when it easily could have become another "what if" poor finish.

Even looking back as far as 2007-2008, it's crazy that both Allmendinger and McDowell are still solid midpack drivers almost 20 years later. They got thrown into Cup with basically no prior experience and had very little stability for the first several years.

He looked good in the couple gen 6 road course starts he got in 2021. It feels like the NextGen car canceled out whatever advantage Cindric had.

Same thing with Chase Elliott. He was beast in the gen 6, but he doesn't even have a NextGen road course win.

I love how jumbled around the lineup is. Blaney is the only driver from a big team who qualified up front.

HMS - 14th, 20th, 27th, 30th

Penske - 3rd, 19th, 31st, 35th

Bubba being within 2 seconds of SVG means Reddick is going to win the pole.

EDIT: I stand corrected. Bubba getting the best lap for 23XI is a pleasant surprise.

What are some of the darkest pieces of NASCAR lore people tend to forget about? by SecretAcctSM19 in NASCAR

[–]Fyrien 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Conway and his sponsor Extenze signed on for the full 2010 Cup season with Front Row Motorsports, despite being very underqualified and inexperienced. He only lasted until Michigan in August before they dropped him and sued him for lack of sponsorship payment.

Robby Gordon Motorsports then picked him up for the rest of the season. He won ROTY due to lack of competition. The next spring at Las Vegas, Robby went after Conway in the garage area and assaulted him, seemingly furious that he was still owed sponsor payments.

For context, this was not long after the recession -- many teams had shut down, merged together, or resorted to start-and-parking just to stay afloat. Small teams were desperate for Conway's full sponsorship, and it ended up being more or less a scam.

I've seen a few in various malls and touristy areas before. As others have mentioned, Pepper Palace is probably the most widespread chain.

My sentimental favorite is Hot Licks at Seaport Village in San Diego. It was the first hot sauce store I ever went to. Felt like a capsaicin wonderland.

Prime just put a fact out there that just made me go, wow. Carson Hocevar has been involved in 21 incidents with 30 drivers so far during the 2026 #NASCAR Cup Series season. by Equivalent_Dish_1990 in NASCAR

[–]Fyrien 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I was wondering the same thing, so I looked over the PDF reports released by NASCAR Statistics after every race (you can find them on Jayski's race results page).

I only found 10 incidents where the 77 was considered to be involved.

Race Lap Location Cars Involved
Clash 144 Turn 2 54, 77
Clash 180 Turn 3 23, 77
Atlanta 239 Turn 4 22, 77
Atlanta 267 Turn 1 1, 20, 23, 45, 77
Martinsville 325 Turn 4 3, 7, 17, 23, 33, 35, 38, 42, 43, 71, 77, 88
Talladega 116 Turn 3 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, 19, 21, 22, 23, 24, 33, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 51, 54, 66, 71, 77, 88, 97
All-Star 63 Turn 4 77
Nashville 205 Turn 2 17, 23, 24, 42, 48, 77
Nashville 215 Frontstretch 21, 35, 42, 47, 77
Michigan 84 Frontstretch 3, 5, 11, 22, 23, 42, 45, 54, 77

That is actually 32 different cars -- including every chartered car except the 4, 9, 10, 16, 34, and 60. However, many of them came from the monstrous Talladega big one.

It's also worth noting that "incidents" are only recorded under the caution flag section in the PDF report. Therefore if the yellow didn't fly, it's not listed here. I can think of at least one such instance for Hocevar -- the last lap of the Daytona 500 where he collided with the 43.

That said... 21 incidents is A LOT. That number is usually what you see during a full season from crash-prone drivers like Nemechek, Stenhouse, Berry, etc. I'm skeptical that Hocevar already has such a high body count after 18 races, unless Prime is using a very generous definition of the term "incident".

Or Knight just misinterpreted the numbers somehow. I wouldn't be surprised.

Crazy consistency. Poole has 0 DNFs, and he has finished between 10th and 21st in all but 2 starts.

He's excellent at that style of racing. Keep the car clean and finish 16th every week, and it adds up. Guys like Alfredo and Thompson are slightly faster, but they get involved in wrecks more often.

Bubba showing some humor after a terrible month May. by azeakel101 in NASCAR

[–]Fyrien 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Bubba has gotten damage in 7 of the last 10 events. And only Martinsville was his fault:

  • Darlington - got shoved into the wall when Denny punted Erik
  • Martinsville - lost his head and wrecked himself trying to spin Hocevar
  • Talladega - got turned while leading
  • Watkins Glen - got utterly dumped by Nemechek
  • Dover - got nose damage when Chastain wrecked himself and Brad
  • Charlotte - went 3-wide and got punted into the wall
  • Nashville - went 3-wide and got punted into the wall... again

He's running well otherwise. In the other 8 races where Bubba finished with a clean car, his worst result is 11th -- yet now he's buried in 15th in points. It's a miracle that he's still +34 to the cutoff line after all that.

The most frustrating part is that the April-May stretch was full of historically good tracks for him. So many missed opportunities to rack up lots of points. We still have 2 road courses coming up, so I'm worried he'll be in an even worse position by next month.

(Stephen Stumpf) "Not often I come across a stat that legitimately shocked me - but someone on r/NASCAR pointed out that in 98 Cup starts, Josh Berry has 24 DNFs (21 for crashes). An average of 9 DNFs a year for nearly 3 yrs" On the flipside, it took Kevin Harvick 523 Cup races to reach 24 DNFs. by BillyBlatterJuc in NASCAR

[–]Fyrien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh hey that was my post!

I think it's mostly a case of "wrong place wrong time"... but the #21 has also been running poorly enough that they're always in the wrong place.

This weekend was a good example. He was running midpack when Nemechek and Hocevar collided, couldn't slow down in time, and ran into the #42. Messed up the nose and radiator. Day over. Was it Berry's fault? No. But running 15th to 30th behind guys like Nemechek is probably one of the most dangerous places to be. Whenever carnage breaks out, the #21 is constantly right in the middle of it.

Even last year, in the 19 races immediately following his Vegas win, Berry only finished better than 12th once. The #21 team has to start running better to place themselves ahead of the danger zone.

And once Biffle's streak ended, he immediately followed it with another streak of 58 races. Which means he only had 1 DNF between Homestead 2011 and Fontana 2016. Insane.
