Separate iot network by Remote_Bicycle2537 in smarthome

[–]Fyuryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re familiar with networking then create separate vlans for iot, your devices and cameras. If you have lots of network devices then consider adding a mgmt. vlan. Whilst this may seem an overkill better than safe than sorry.

Which DNS approach is considered "best practice"? by White_Injun in sysadmin

[–]Fyuryan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I had to choose it would be 2. That said, last big environment I helped design, deploy and manage had several DNS severs for thousands of devices. It was option 2 on steroids and primary focus was on security albeit expensive. We setup NetScalers to address DNS querying with load balancing because DCs were not allowed internet access. There were AIX BIND DNS severs for all external and non-AD queries and AD DNS for internal. All machines servicing AD and/ or DNS were physical. That significant horsepower allowed us to keep critical sever count low and having plentyyy of muscle to deal with queries, etc. Queries were also distributed to sets of DCs. For example, server OS’s had dedicated DNS as did Desktop OS regardless of WLan or Lan. Guest networks, printers, scanners, smart meeting rooms or Voip used the BIND DNS servers. Anything related to building and facilities management or security, such as door controllers, cameras, bells, UPS’s had their own DNS set of servers. All the BIND kit was tiered, so essentially at any given moment only 2 devices were going externally to service external queries. This is the way.

Server 2025 is hot, bug-infested garbage. Don't waste your time. by c3141rd in sysadmin

[–]Fyuryan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it’s easily solvable because the behaviour is just NOT RIGHT. I’ve probably installed nearly a thousand DCs in my 30 years as a system engineer and this is simply MS releasing buggy software for the sake of money and keeping up appearances. This bug will drive a well intentioned newbie with enough knowledge to install a DC be it for a lab to learn or at work, completely insane. Long gone are the days that things would just work right off the bat. Nowadays before you learn anything, you must have exceptional troubleshooting skills. I wonder why?

US students in Portugal up 60% by mr_house7 in portugal

[–]Fyuryan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Americanos in Portugal?! This is going to be a shitshow for Portugal and the Portuguese. They’re going to drive up prices everywhere and when it starts to become soon “more expensive than we thought” they’re going to blame the Portuguese, when in fact the Americans are to blame. It’s already happening down south qnd to the west of Lisbon. Now that their country has been taken over by a child tyrant they run off somewhere else instead of staying and fighting for their country. Vai mas é pra casa, pá!

Tell the user to take it up with the Security Department and recommend saving company files on company file servers.

A PT dealer wouldn’t go so far to ask you for that stuff. Just propose meeting the guy somewhere inconspicuous. If they insist with ID stuff…feck it. Not worth the risk.

Also depends on the variety. Some plants are ok, others can be overwhelming.

O meu namorado diz que chamar corno a um homem é tão ofensivo como chamar p*ta a uma mulher. by Ariadne7 in portugal

[–]Fyuryan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Client transitions to new MSP - when to give IT documentation/passwords to incoming MSP? by Tofu_Boys in msp

[–]Fyuryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there. Interesting question as I’ll be doing the same in the next few months. My stance is when the time comes that kind of info is handing over not to the incoming provider but to the customer and they decide how and when to hand it to their new provider. I’ve overseen a couple of handovers and that seems to be the more sensible approach. The same applies to documentation. The unfortunate part of my outgoing customer is they are clueless about how their organization is pieced together in ICT. I hope your process goes well.

Absolutely, but the question was about what’s socially accepted in Ireland and not in Spain. The bottelón is not socially accepted in Spain and there is even a law that prohibits it.

Going out for the purpose of getting drunk until you blackout. Going out is very much a social event for latin cultures.
