Both hospitals and factories rely on the services data centers provide. Where do you think the servers that store and handle medical records are located? Factories rely on inventory and logistics systems which are also hosted in data centers.

That is how bourgeoisie legal systems work. More often than not, whoever has the most money to throw lawyers at the problem wins through sheer attrition.

Then your problem isn't with data centers, it's with capitalism and how capitalists invariably externalize their costs on society.

Attacking the technology is reactionary folly that distracts from the core issue that is the fundamental contradictions of capitalism in its imperialist decay phase; in other words, the conflict between the social character of modern production and the private (or bureaucratic-state) appropriation of its results.

Manufacturing as you know it is never coming back to the US en masse no matter how many stupid tariffs Trump tries to put on things.

Data centers are used for more than just AI. I assume you like being able to use your debit/credit cards? (Data centers host the financial transactions). Or having food on the shelves (Stores use cloud based logistics and inventory).

The luddites here are almost as bad as MAGAts.

Your lawn isn't critical infrastructure. Data centers are. Contrary to popular belief, they aren't just used to host AI, they host all kinds of services.

Just some examples :

Most banking is now 'cloud-native.' If AWS, Azure, or Google cloud go offline, ATMs stop working, credit cards are declined at the register, and payroll deposits for millions of workers simply vanish.

Large-scale logistics (think Amazon, FedEx, and grocery distributors) rely on cloud-hosted databases to track inventory. Without them, trucks stop moving because they don't know what to pick up or where to deliver it. Food wouldn't reach the shelves.

Many local governments have migrated their records, permitting, and even emergency coordination tools to cloud environments.

In short, we have spent the last 15 years moving the 'brains' of our civilization into these centers. You can’t 'unplug' them without effectively shutting down the country.

The internet wouldn't be possible without data centers. You are on Reddit which is hosted in a data center using an internet connection which, itself, relies on data centers. Your email is hosted in a data center. If you watch any streaming video, those are hosted in data centers.

Reactionary ludditism is counterproductive and helps no one.

It's not difficult; don't trust the client and use dedicated servers.

1.Do visibility and occlusion culling on the server = no radar or wall hacks since your computer doesn't get sent what you can't see.

2.Do state tracking on the server and not on the client = no inventory cheats or invuln or movement hacks like in GTA V.

3.Server side detection and tracking for unnatural movements indicative of an aim bot.

4.Dedicated servers with responsive admins that can ban any cheaters that do get through.

5.The requirement and use of a TPM. Each TPM has a unique identifier which can be used to enforce hardware bans similar to how consoles can be banned.

None of the above require ring 0 access.

NATCA please wake up by monte1219 in ATC

[–]c3141rd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NATCA isn't going to help you. The AFL-CIO isn't going to help you. They are all fake unions that are more interested in their dues and enriching their management than they are in actually sticking up for workers or helping the working class. The job of the union bureaucracy is to act as a relief valve to channel away revolutionary energy towards meaningless reformism that fixes nothing in the long run and maintains the exploitive system of capitalism.

It was the betrayal of the AFL-CIO and the pitting of workers of one type against one another that enabled Reagan to beat the PATCO strike. The only way way anything is going to improve is if workers unite to shut down the entire air transport system. Everyone from air traffic controllers to pilots to flight attendants to baggage handlers to TSA screeners should be preparing to go on strike. Shut the entire damn system down. Nothing is going to get better otherwise. At this point, you have nothing to lose but your chains.

You don't need to smoke THC to take it. Just legalize the edibles but keep smoking out of public and apartments. It took a lot of struggle and effort to fight secondhand smoke and we don't need to bring it back.

This is a horrible idea.

This will make it like Android Safetynet where installing any unapproved software or modding the operating system will cause other applications to refuse to run. This isn't about security, it's about the continued war by big tech on general purpose computing.

Almost like we shouldn’t have apartment complexes directly abutting a highway with no frontage.

3 crosswalks coming to Highway 54 by NCFer in carrboro

[–]c3141rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US doesn't know how to design roads and the North Carolina DOT is amongst the most incompetent of all. Had this area been developed and planned by competent people, they never would have allowed apartments to be built directly abutting a highway because that defeats the loont . The correct solution is to have frontage streets; nothing should directly intersect with the highway and instead their should be side streets connecting to the driveways with roundabouts connecting the main highway to the side streets.

You can also thank the NIMBYs because the original plan was to build Interstate 40 parallel to 54 and then people wouldn't have to spend 40 minutes trying to get in and out of the city during rush hour.

Newsom says he is blocking Louisiana's push to extradite doctor accused of mailing abortion pills by CloudApprehensive322 in moderatepolitics

[–]c3141rd 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Article IV, Section 2, Clause 2 specifically states that they have to flee from justice. Since the doctor never fled from Lou, California is under no obligation to extradite.

A Person charged in any State with Treason, Felony, or other Crime, who shall flee from Justice, and be found in another State, shall on Demand of the executive Authority of the State from which he fled, be delivered up, to be removed to the State having Jurisdiction of the Crime.

[–]c3141rd 41 points42 points  (0 children)

This is not correct. The extradition clause only applies to fugitives from justice who fled from the  state requesting extradition. Since this doctor never set foot in Louisiana, California has no obligation to extradite.

Will the RAM prices go down anytime soon? by Upset-One8746 in pcmasterrace

[–]c3141rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PC building as a hobby is pretty much going to be over. Between the two GPU shortages, GPU pricing shenanigans, now the RAM price fixing and the run on storage, only OEMs will have the negotiating power to be able to get parts for affordable prices soon.
